Polish punk (Tilt) - by JB 

Tonight we are looking at another core band in the early Polish punk scene. A band named TILT. JB explains how core this band was to the early Warsaw scene. The band started out in 1979 and continues to this day. In between members of Tilt joined forces with Kryzys to form Brigada Kryzys. But members would always come back to Tilt.

NOOSE SWEAT from Vancouver just had a flexi come out on 625 Thrash called “Death Denial” which was described as “Highly effective powerviolence from this Vancouver, Canada band. Raw, ferociously fast, incredibly well-executed, greasy, precise, murky and severe. Seven songs that last as long as it takes you to read this review. Huge cover art by the great and subversive artist Tommy Wilson”. This demo was recorded before the flexi and is a little rawer but for power violence fans will be appreciated. We have a feature on SST to highlight the release of a new book on the label called - Corporate Rock Sucks: The Rise and Fall of SST Records. We have a feature on Shoulder called “Family Tree” which is about the band and the bands that came out of Shoulder. This week I heard an interview on CBC’s Q about SST Records. The Interview was with music journalist Jim Ruland who just released a book called “It’s called “Corporate Rock Sucks: The Rise and Fall of SST Records”. The label was built on the backs of BLACK FLAG so like the interview we will start the set off with the first release on the label with Keth Morris on vocals.

Pure Pressure studio 3 session

Pure Pressure is a hardcore band from Toronto that takes their inspirations form the straight edge sound. I first found out about them from the SHEXD crew and we featured their demo in July 2016, which was a couple of months after they released their demo. Karla was on the last episode of SHEXD and she told us that she was moving away after Not Dead Yet so we worked to try and get a a studio 3 session scheduled with the band before they broke up. It is unsure if the band is breaking up or not but they have a studio recording to release so there is more to happen with this band. The band features Karla on vocals, Rob on guitar, Greg on bass, and Nolan on drums. Rob played in Severe and currently plays in the Protruders. Greg played in Violent Future and currently plays in S.H.I.T. Nolan is from Calgary and played in Desgraciados and currently plays in Siyahkal. So the members in this band are busy, but who isn't these days? The band recorded the following songs:

Coach House Books has published a fantastic little novella on Teenage Head called "Gods of the Hammer". We were able to speak with Geoff Pevere, author of the book and former host of CBC's "Prime Time". He is a wealth of knowledge and spoke enthusiastically about so many aspects of the band that it helped put context to the band in a post Frankie Venom era.
