Haitian Revolution buildings

I'm sure you've all seen at least some of the figures I've been painting up for my Donnybrook Haitian Revolution project. Well I've got loads of figures done to its time for a game soon (fingers crossed). I made loads of jungle terrain a year or so ago, so my thoughts turned to buildings.

Funnily enough there aren't that many pictures of Santo Domingo during the late 1700's and nobody makes building specifically for this period (why would they?) Being a colonial French and Spanish island logic tells me the buildings would have a Spanish/Mediterranean look to them

You can get a little bit of an idea in this picture.

So the search was on for suitable looking buildings......

I remembered seeing some buildings on the buildings on Ken's Yarkshire Gamer's blog a few years ago
They were from a company called Empires at War, I decided that these would/could fit the bill.

Now here's the problem, I went slightly overboard and bought nearly the whole range!
I have been busy beavering away building them ever since the Challenge ended. I did plan on posting pics as I went on, but it never happened, so here's a pic of the buildings that are left.

But I wasn't yet satisfied......

Mrs R and the kids all chipped in and bought me some 4Ground Pirate range buildings.
I did look at these before buying the Empires at War buildings, but they are so expensive.
So when 4Ground announced they were closing (boooo!) and were having a sale,
I thought I'd get some.

I ordered them back in March a few weeks before my Birthday, hoping they'd arrive in time for the big day??
But 4Ground had different ideas.
These actually turned up last Friday! I know they were inundated with orders, but 3 months?
Really?

Anyway I will start posting up a few pics of what I've made so far soon, so look out for the posts.

25mm Wagons & Loads

Been a very busy boy recently as well as decorating my daughters 2 bedrooms I managed to get a splash of paint on these wagons and loads.

They come from a variety of  companies including 4Ground, Warbases and Col Bill's

The horses are from Essex minis, but I can't remember where the Bulls came from???

The wagons loaded.

And more loads for another day or another wagon!
These will be primarily used for Donnybrook but could of course fit into any 16th to 19th century period, including my Haitian Revolution!

AHPC X - Wagons Ho!

All things Wagon for this post. These were entered into the Challenge back in March, here.

This I think is a 4Ground model it supposed to be a water wagon,
but mines a beer wagon instead! I already have one loaded so thought I better get one unloaded.

Its a easy model to put together and no 25mm army should be without one.

Stick the tap in this end.

The next wagon is from Col Bill's Depot Battalion, you can see them here.

It a heavy ammo wagon so I painted up 4 horses, 2 with riders moulded on.

All can also be found at Col Bills.

Here for the draught horses.

and here for the Riders and horses.

Lastly 3 Wagon drivers, these are Foundry models, purchased gawd knows when!

So onto the points
Although its a 25mm vehicle Its probably a cheek to get 20 pts for the Beer Wagon
so I'll just go with whatever my Minion says, 10 pts perhaps?
For the bigger wagon 20 points
30 points for the horses and riders?
15 points for the drivers?
Making a total of 55 points?

15mm 4Ground Dutch Houses

Not being content with the 25mm version's of 4Ground's great looking Dutch Houses, again at Salute I purchased their 15mm versions of the same buildings.

I'd like to say they were easier to put together than their 25mm conterparts, which they were, although they were a little more fiddly, but that's most probably due to my fat sausage fingers!

I only bought five of the buildings because that's all they had left and I do already have loads of other makes to make a massisve town.

You know I said they were fiddly? Well that's my skin stuck on the decorative brickwork on the building on the right!!Nothing that a brush of paint or ink will cover over of course.......whenever I get round to it????

I've left the insides plain for the moment, I did toy with the idea of painting the inside white or grey, just to tone down the stark effect, when the roofs are on you don't really notice the insides so I will probably leave them as they are.

As I bought 2 sets of buildings twice, (the blue and green buildings) I changed the colour of their roofs, just to make them look a little different, which I think worked very well.

15mm 4ground FIW Cabins

Just managed to get these and some other bits and bobs finished before the start of Curt's Challenge on Sunday last. These are my second lot of 4Ground items I bought from Col Bill's Wargaming Depot at SELWG. They're the New England Settlers Hamlet set, consisting of 3 buildings for the princely sum of £22
I did have a little trouble putting the things together, it was the instructions really. They were simple enough to follow, but the difficulty was working out which part went where because the numbers on the sprue's didn't correspond with anything at all??? I worked it out in the end, but did make a few mistakes, which luckily you don't actually notice!! Apart from that, I'm quite pleased at how they turned out. I think they look quite nice and fit the period well, I could do with a few European houses for my NYW figures, here's hoping eh?

Small moan about the side of the chim chiminey stack, surly it could've been made
to look stone all the way around?

Gotta get the decorators in now for the insides????

A couple of pics with some 15mm Frei Korps figures for scale.

FIW 4Ground 15mm Blockhouse

I bought this and another 4Ground building set at SELWG a few months ago, and I've got to say I'm mighty impressed. The building as with all 4Ground products comes in flat pack format  and was quite easy to clip and glue together. I'm not that happy with how the roof looks at the 4 joins, but I'm sure I can fix it somehow. I don't think the roof can be made in any other way, its just me being a bit fussy??
My only other quibble is, I wish it could be a little bigger......but then don't we all??

I may base the Blockhouse up, I think it'll make it a little more sturdy, but then It'd be nice
to have some kind of earthworks around it as well??? Oh what to do????
But for £11 you just can't go wrong!

Two Essex minis for size comparison.
