Salute Loot 2026 & Blogger Meet up

For a change, when I rummaged through my bags of loot I picked up at this years Salute, I was very surprised at how much there was!! (That never usually happens???)

So firstly was my Salute Goody bag, the Saladin figure, some Dwarf figures, some very handy magnetic bases from Warmag and another base, I've not really delved into what it is yet?

And in no particular order...
From Products For Wargamers, two large ponds, a small pond and some counters.
All of these will be snowified, for the Retreat from Moscow and the Winter War.

A mix of figures for Jason and the Argonauts, from Wargames Foundry, Crooked Dice and Fenris. From Warlord, some Bolt Action dice, (£18 for dice!!, my heart bleeds!) and artillery markers and some free Konflikt 49 sprues. Paints from Sheppey Models and 15mm Ottoman tents form Debris of War.

The Campaign Book, Chronicles of Midgard
I've got the rules already and am seriously thinking about buying 2 armies to paint up!
Hmm???

Stream/River sections from The Last Valley and a few bridges, once again these will snowified!

And finally I picked up a pre-order of some magnetic bases from Warbases and a strip of  Green Stuff!!

So this lot should keep me bust for the foreseeable future, especially if you add all the other stuff I have in my leadpile.

And lastly a rather small Blogger Meet up was held at 1 o'clock, which was a shame, but thanks to all the guys who made it.

Matt, Andy, Carl, Lee, Postie, Steve, Mike, me and Reject Dave

See you all at Salute 54!!!!

AHPC16 - Last Post - Greek Mythology - Heracles & Chums!

Well I stared this years Challenge with some Jason and the Argonauts figures.....and I'm ending it with the same.

Well not actually the same figures, but more from Wargames Foundry's range.

I painted them up again, in the same black armour that Foundry painted their's.

Here we have the Mighty Heracles, who's a very large chap, in the middle its Canthus the Euboen and Ascalaphus.

Then we have Lynceus, Peleus the Myrmidon and Idas.

Then we have 5 more Children of the Hydra

Although I got a different figure in my pack, a left handed spearman!!

I'm pretty sure my Nephew Zac's gonna love them!!

Its his Birthday at the end of the month, I've bought him some Victrix Greek's, so look out for them on my blog soon.

I took a few shots of the figures having a fight....as you do?

So this is it, my final post of the 16th Challenge, the points are pretty easy to work out on this one.
11x 25mm figures at 5 points each will give me 55 points!

Zac v Jason & the Argonauts

After my busy terrain building day with Lee, last Saturday, on the Sunday, my nephew Zac came over for his first ever Wargame.

Zac loves anything to do with Greek Mythology, so for Christmas last year I bought and painted up some Jason and the Argonauts figures from Foundry, see here.

We only have 11 figures at the moment, 6 Argonauts and 5 Skeletons (Children of the Hydra), so I made up a very, very simple set of rules, to try and get Zac into gaming.

It worked!!

He absolutely loved playing the game.

We played 10 short games and the little tyke beat me in 8 of the games!!!

His dice rolling was absolutely ridiculous, he is certainly a son of Zeus and been been touched by the dice gods!!
I might ask him to pick this weeks lottery numbers for me???

After a couple of games Zac, was realising about tactics, not going for the full frontal assault but going around the flanks, which quite amazed me to be honest.

He seemed to really be getting he rules so, I kept adding more details to the rules, to flesh them out.
He said " You're only changing the rules, because I keep beating you!!"
Little sod!

It was 6's to kill on a D6, but Jason had a D10, to make him more heroic. Zac's Jason went on a rampage for the first few games, mauling my Skeleton's time after time.

Zac felt sorry for me keep losing so, HE, let me play the Argonauts, so I went on a rampage with Jason and Zac killed him in the first melee!
Sigh.......

Zac laughed his head off

The Dice Monster

At the end, of the day, I asked him if he'd enjoyed the games and does he want to come again.
His answer was simple....
"Yes, tomorrow!"

I think there'll be many more fights for Jason and the Dice Monster to come, which is brilliant.
Now I better paint up the rest of the figures, before he beats me up again.

AHPC 16 - Jason and the Argonauts & The Children of the Hydra

For my first post of this years Challenge, I've gone back in time to Greece and its mythology.
I'd take a guess that 99% of the people reading this post has seen the 1963 Ray Harryhausen film Jason & the Argonauts and were in as much awe as I was watching it? My favourite scene was always, the fight with the children of the Hydra. So this for me was a good start.

"In the myth of Jason and the Argonauts, the "children of the Hydra" refers to the skeletal warriors raised from the ground by sowing the teeth of the slain Hydra, a magical defence King Aeëtes used against Jason in Colchis; they are a key part of the Golden Fleece quest, famously brought to life in the 1963 film by Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation, though the core idea stems from ancient Greek tales where sowing dragon/serpent teeth creates armed men."

I've wanted to do these for a long time, but these infact are not for me!!!
My nephew Zach, who's 10 is really into Greek Mythology, thanks to the Percy Jackson books and films.

So I thought I'd paint him up a few figures for Christmas and see if I can get him interested in wargaming??? My Mrs said don't go too mad and buy too much........well too late.
He'll have these 11 figures and then hopefully help me paint up the last 11, more Argonauts and skeletons. Then the world is his oyster!!!

Laertes, Argus and Polydeuces

Jason, Melampus of Pylus and Augeias

I played around with how to paint the skeletons, in the end I painted them white and painted over a grey Contrast paint (sorry Ken), to give them that subtle shaded effect.

All of the figures are from Wargames Foundry, excellent Mythology range.

So 11 x 25mm figures @ 5pts each gives me 55 points! and all before Christmas day too!!!!

The Other Partizan.......Loot

It must admit, I was quite surprised rummaging through the Loot I collected at The Other Partizan last weekend. I knew I'd bought a few bags of stuff, but didn't realise how much!!!

Firstly the last 4 trees from the Last Valley stall.

I wanted the unpainted version, but Coritani had sold out, so I had to have the painted version.
Why an Anciet Greek ruin you ask???

And why all the loose columns???
Well.......my 10 years old nephew loves Greek Mythology, so I'm gonna paint up some bits for him, and lead him up the wargaming garden path, well hopefully anyway?
I also picked up a few paints from Coritani as well.

A bit of a mixture here, all from those great chaps from Warbases. Firstly more wagon's for the Retreat from Moscow, paints, some magnetized bases, for the Greek Mythology project and a new knife. I've somehow misplaced my favourite knife during the move a few months ago. It';; probably turn up now I've bought a new one?

A random buy, this chap used to frighten the life outta me when I was a kid, the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!!
He may come in handy during the up and coming Painting Challenge?

I'd not seen these before? a wagon and outhouse from Warlord, they were a bit pricey tbh, but I thought I'd give them a go, Skytrex did have loads of other great looking buildings from Warlord, but I'd need a 2nd mortgage to buy any of them.

The previously mentioned Greeks from Foundry, I bought Jason and the Argonauts and Hercules and the Argonauts. to fight them I bought two packs of Skeleton's , who spring out of the ground when the Hydra's teeth are thrown into the dirt. Also a pack of Gods, including the big man himself.
Also yet another wagon, this time from Iron Gate Scenery and some scenery from Ironclad Miniatures.

Four building from the Tree Fella, all 3D printed, me and Lee bought 3 damaged building at the last Partizan.

Unfortunately one of the roofs is wrong and doesn't match the building.
Arrgghh!

They should look pretty decent with a lick of paint on.

At the bring and buy I bought another 2 buildings, a ruined stables.

With a removable roof

Which should fit into my Donnybrook collection very well.

From the same guy I also picked up this medieval/tudor house

Again this should fit into the Donnybrook era.

And the roof comes off too!

Next up and also from the Bring & Buy, this medieval house.

It was only when I took the photos for this post I realised that the building doesn't have a door!!!
So I'll have to add one, if I ever get around to it, that is?

From the same guy I bought these 4 ECW buildings, the chap, carefully placed all 4 an the previous building in a box, as he lifted the box all 5 building fell out of the bottom, smashing one into firwood!!

The offending building is now all glued together and will need a little touch up as there were a few pieces missing.

Well I think I did rather well, don't you?
