Salute Loot 2026 & Blogger Meet up

For a change, when I rummaged through my bags of loot I picked up at this years Salute, I was very surprised at how much there was!! (That never usually happens???)

So firstly was my Salute Goody bag, the Saladin figure, some Dwarf figures, some very handy magnetic bases from Warmag and another base, I've not really delved into what it is yet?

And in no particular order...
From Products For Wargamers, two large ponds, a small pond and some counters.
All of these will be snowified, for the Retreat from Moscow and the Winter War.

A mix of figures for Jason and the Argonauts, from Wargames Foundry, Crooked Dice and Fenris. From Warlord, some Bolt Action dice, (£18 for dice!!, my heart bleeds!) and artillery markers and some free Konflikt 49 sprues. Paints from Sheppey Models and 15mm Ottoman tents form Debris of War.

The Campaign Book, Chronicles of Midgard
I've got the rules already and am seriously thinking about buying 2 armies to paint up!
Hmm???

Stream/River sections from The Last Valley and a few bridges, once again these will snowified!

And finally I picked up a pre-order of some magnetic bases from Warbases and a strip of  Green Stuff!!

So this lot should keep me bust for the foreseeable future, especially if you add all the other stuff I have in my leadpile.

And lastly a rather small Blogger Meet up was held at 1 o'clock, which was a shame, but thanks to all the guys who made it.

Matt, Andy, Carl, Lee, Postie, Steve, Mike, me and Reject Dave

See you all at Salute 54!!!!

Cavalier 2026 - Loot!

Better late than never, I thought I'd share a few photos of the loot I collected at Cavalier Wargames Show at the end of February.

Firstly some reinforcements for my Parkfield Miniatures, WWII Finnish army I'm in the middle of painting up. Two sets of machine gun teams, one firing and one moving.

Next up some Barbed wire from Last Man Last Bullet, again for my Finns.

A random purchase, a French team for, cough, Not Silver Bullet. I might be able to use some for my and Lee's Retreat from Moscow armies. I've not yet had the time to match the figures up size wise with my collection.  But they sure are nice sculpts. and sorry, but I can't work out which company I bought them from, they sold loads of beautiful 3D printed buildings, anyone know?

From the Bring n Buy I bought my 2nd copy of Black Powder, even though I've never played the game. Why 2nd copy you ask? Well the first, I bought on ebay without realising it was A5 sized. The writing is so small, I can't read it even with my goggles on!

Well, We need the rules for the Finns! Lee wanted to use Bolt Action over Chain of Command, only coz he thinks he can get more hits on his you tube channel, the tart!

And with the rules, I got this free figure of Francis S Currey.

From Products for Wargamers, I picked up these 2 hills.

And some magnetic sheeting.

Picked this Osprey up, from one stall, how didn't I know about this book?

I spent a few quid at Debris of War as I always do. Yes more trees as well. But thus time they're for my 15mm collections.

Lastly more from Debris of War. 25mm hedges, which I want to cut up and make bushes and some 15mm hedges as well to add to my ever growing collection.

And that my friends, is that!

Broadside Loot!

I bought a fair bit of scenery at Broadside this year. I spent a few quid at the most excellent Debris of War, adding another 7 of their excellent trees to my growing collection

Along with 5 of their pond bases, I'm going to try and winter a few of these up for my and Lee's Retreat from Moscow shenanigans!

£40 for 19 packs of Minifigs Ottoman Turks. I would really like to add some Turks to my 15mm LOA armies, it'd be great to play the Siege of Vienna in 15mm. I've already got loads of figures in 28mm for Donnybrook, so why not an army for Beneath the Lilly Banners ass well??? Of course I'd need some Poles as well........

The Flea market was a great success, I bought all this lot above, from one chap, some of which I'll winter up

And these 3 hills, which I might winter up or might not???

I also picked these up for the quite ridiculous price of £25 for the pair!!!! I've very often ogled these and other in the range at shows on the Pike & Shot Society stall. I already own the Spanish and one of the Dutch books, they are a must for the period. I nearly fell over when I saw the price!!!
They're usually £50 each.

The last thing I bought again from the Flea Market was a pack of Foundry Pirates for the measly sum of £2, they're now £18 a pack. I previously used a lot of these figures when painting up my Haitian Revolution project, most were converted into Haitians.

Lee was winging that he wanted to buy something. I've been buying a few trees here and there for us to winter up for our Retreat from Moscow game, I saw these earlier in the day, so suggested to Lee to open his moth filled wallet and buy some of these trees from Pumpernickle Games.

We're hoping to meet up next week and do a days work on all the terrain we've bought, hopefully we can get a lot done in the day???

Debris of War - 25mm Medieval Grainstore

Its been a little quiet over the last few weeks on Don't Throw a 1, life has just got the way as it does, but that doesn't mean I've been idle.

I saw this beautiful model of a medieval grainstore, from Debris of War and just wanted it!
I'm not dipping my toes into anything medieval, but thought it looked pretty cool and would fit in anywhere in my Donnybrook world.

As I already said the Grainstore is made by Debris of War, go check out their site, I've said it before but they do make some fab stuff!

Here's a link to the grainstore. Its a bargain at £12

As its a Medieval store and I want to use it in the late 1600's, I painted up the building using varies shades of grey, and a black and brown wash, to try and give the effect of old dry wood.

So get along to Debris of War and get yourself a luvvly looking grainstore!

My Salute Loot 2024

Salute is well and truly over for another year and what a great show it was, thanks again to The Warlords and everyone involved in making the show a great experience.
So great infact, that my wallet was attacked by a bit of a spending spree, at the time I didn't think I bought too much, BUT now when I look at it..........well I'll let the pics do the talking.

My first purchase of the day wasn't planned at all, walking around I found Battlefield Accessories. Its not any wonder I'd not heard about them before as they're from Australia! The 3 buildings are made from MDF and were a fair price , between £16 and £24 each.

Next we have a set of rules BelloLudi, this time from the Netherlands!
I bought the complete set of rules, dice and cards. I saw these advertised somewhere recently, can't remember where?

A pre order from those wonderful chaps at Warbases

Including some of their 2mm Strength & Honour figures.
Yes I'm going to do another 2mm period, even though I've not finished the last one and not had a game with the figures yet.

I phoned Casting Rooms Miniatures a few weeks ago, I wanted them to bring a few packs with them to the show so I could see how big or small they are, basically will they fit in with Trent Miniatures. For my Haitian Revolution game I plan to put on at Broadside Wargame Show in June, I need some Creole/Mulatto figures, so thought these might work. But the one thing I forgot to bring with me was a Trent mini so I had to guess, (never a good idea?) I picked out a few packs, but in the end just bought the bloody lot!!

Foudry Pirates...............no actually they're more Creole/Mulatto troops. I really only needed around 18 figures, I've now got a whole bloody army of them! Why do I do this to myself?

Re-designed Vallejo paints!

A little pressie from Steve at General Reeve blog
A sprue of French Napoleonics, these should come in handy, cheers Steve!
What a great hobby community we have.

By the time I got to Debris of War, they'd sold out of a building I wanted!! No problem though, I've arranged to pick one up at Broadside in June.

A pack of French Revolutionary figures, Paris Mob from Eureka,  and my first ever purchase from
Gringo 40's General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, he will make a perfect Haitian General.

Last but not least Basic Impetus rules along with Warbook 4.
It's all Jonathan Freitag's fault!

And that's the end of my Salute Loot!

Re-Play 2023 Loot

I told myself before the Re-Play show last weekend that I didn't need to buy anything at the show??

Who was I kidding????

Debris of War did well by me, I spent all my dosh at their stall.
Some 25mm walling, did I need more walling? Of course not!

4 packs of tufts, these hopefully will be used on my 2mm terrain.

As will the static grass

I've long admired Tony's trees, so I thought I'd take the plunge and get some, they're not the cheapest trees on the market, but look fab and importantly, they're very steady, as the tree and part of the base is cast from metal. So the don't get knocked over very easily.
I cannot tell you how much I paid for the trees, just encase SWMBO, reads this post....

Who am I kidding, she'd rather stick pins in her eyes......(her words not mine!)

So there you have it, my Re-Play Loot!
