AHPC12 - Donnybrook - Last of the Mohicans

Back in Challenge 8 in 2018 I painted up the Warlord Figures pack Last of the Mohicans here
Mainly to use as command figures for my Natives for King Philip's War/Bacon's Rebellion.

Around about the same time I bought the Redoubt Enterprises version of the same figures, Although there's no Magua, instead we have the ill fated Major Duncan Heyward.
These will also go into the Native Command box of doom. The ladies will go into the civillian box,
and poor Maj Heywood will go into the what the hell I'm I gonna do with you box! But
probably round to Posties to add to his FIW collection. This figure was in command of the 55th foot in our last FIW game a few posts ago.

I think I prefer these figures to the Warlord ones?

Bit blurry I know.
Cora Munro, Alice Munro, Chingachgook, Uncas

Alice, Chingachgook, Uncas, Hawkeye (in his famous, chasing after Magua pose)  and Maj Heyward

Originally I was just going to paint up Cora and Alice, just incase I needed them for Sarah Star ship, but before I knew it I'd cleaned up the pack and stuck them on sticks and lets face it, they're a pretty easy paintjob.

This fine looking bunch of 6 x 25mm figures will earn me another 30 points, which leaves me just 9 points shy of Miles in 6th place.,

AHPC X - Donnybrook - Native's Prisoners

Curt wanted Donnybrook, so Curt gets Donnybrook!
Here we have another 4 figures for my collection.

Were back in North America for this entry, the figures are from Redoubt Enterprises'
FIW range, but mine will be for King Philips War or Bacon's Rebellion.

The prisoners will probably be used in a rescue scenario, whenever I get around to it?

I earned 20 points for these, pushing back up to No 32.

AHPC9 Donnybrook "Sport" Bonus Round Native Lacrosse

Its Analogue Painting Challenge Bonus round again and I've gone all
Native for the "Sport" Bonus round.
I will admit to being stumped at what to paint up for this round, I even considered
and placed a few bids on ebay for some various Bloodbowl figures. I pretty glad I lost the bids!
The voting for the Bonus rounds are open to anyone, so if you'd like to vote for my
or any of the other great entries click this link.

I remembered back in the midst of time, 2012 to be precise I painted up some 15mm Indian
villagers here. Some of these were playing Lacrosse, so a seed was planted.......

I had a few (ok, a lot) of unpainted Indians wallowing in the dead lead pile, so I went to work
with a scalpel, file and drill, chopping off warclubs and such and came up with these 4 chaps.

The goal was quite a simple build, its made out of the three straightest twigs
I had in my Twig box, painted, inked and drybrushed and stuck on a Warbases base
and will be used as decoration
in any games we play involving an Indian village.

He's my fav, not a lot of conversion work on him I'm afraid, he came straight of the
packet of Redoubt Torch carriers.

As did the chap on the right.
All 4 figures are from Redoubt Enterprises.

Just for interest, here's how I made the Lacosse Sticks.
I cut and bent some soldering wire to shape.

Then folded a piece of plasterboard scrim in half, I fed the wire into the fold and
and cut to shape. I then had to cut a thin fine line and glue it to the bottom of the net.

Easy!

Well it wasn't that easy, I super-glued my fingers together 3 times!!
Oh the things we do for the hobby!

AHPC 9 Reconnaissance Bonus Round - He went that way......

Its Bonus round time again, Curt seems to bamboozle me each year with his choices for
bonus rounds and this year is no different!
I always try and use figures I already have or I can use in any of the periods
I already own. Luckily I already had these figures in my unpainted pile.
The figures are from Redoubt Enterprises' Scout pack, with 1 addition, the chap with the white face.

Obviously as they're a scout pack, the fellows would have been sent out to recon
the area or track their enemy, but they can always be used as normal warrior models and
will be added to my big box of Native American Indians for Donnybrook.

I really like these Redoubt figures, they're so full of life and character.
I tried out Army Painter Strong Tone on these.
Its a bloody godsend to be honest.
I shall be using this a lot more often from now on.

30 points for the figures 5 x 6
and 50 points for the bonus round bonus.
Grand total of 80 points!
If you'd like to vote for these fine looking fellows or another of the fab entries, you have
until this Saturday. Just click the link here

AHPC8 - 1st entry 25mm Last of the Mohican's

My first entry into the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge 8.
Is this pack of figures from Warlord Games, containing all the main characters from the excellent 1992 film The Last of the Mohicans.
From left to right Cora Munro, Alice Munro, Hawkeye, Chingachgook, Uncas
and the darstardly Magua.
I won't be using the figures for these characters, mine will be leaders, heroes and other
characters for my Indian Donnybrook force.
This entry earned me 30 points

Redoubt Enterprises 25mm Woodland Indians with bows

More Woodland Indians
I picked these up at Salute this year, with some others that I'll post later.
I bought them from Grubby Tanks to add to my ever growing Donnybrook Indian force.
I was going to buy some unpainted figures from Redoubt, but after seeing these decided
to take the plunge spend a bit more dosh and save myself loads of time!

To be honest I can't remember how much they were, I think they were around £3 each,
which means they were only £1.50ish to paint, so a bargain in my opinion!

Woodland Indians - Flint & Feather

How disgraceful!
Its taken me 2 years to get these beautifully sculpted and painted figures based up and finished!
These fab figures from the Flint & Feather range were a gift from my Secret Santa back in 2015.

Although I don't really need anymore Woodland Indians for my Donnybrook game, I'm gonna have
to give in and get a few more of these figures.
I wish they were available in the UK?

Thanks again

AHPC VII Donnybrook - Drums along the Ohio - Woodland Indians

Another entry into the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge, as you may well know I'm trying to paint up some Woodland Indians for my Donnybrook shenanigans. Being as I'm using these for the late 1600's, not the French Indian Wars of the 1750's, I wanted more warriors with handweapons. So I took a chance and bought these, not having seen them in the flesh before I didn't know how large they were compared to my other figures. They are on the larger side of 25mm. They do vary in height quite a bit, the smallest being around 32mm while the tallest a whopping 37mm! They fit in better with the larger Redoubt figures, not so much with my Perry and Warlord figures, but hey ho??

The figures are from the Drums in the Ohio Valley collection from Blue Moon, bought in the UK from Old Glory. I did buy another pack, they were delayed in the post and only arrived of last Friday, (gotta be honest, I'd forgotten all about them!!!) They won't make the painting table in time for the Challenge, but never mind, maybe next year.......or not?

Anyway they may well be a little larger than the norm, but I really do like the action poses on these all bar one, who looks as though he's from another pack?
These bad boys made gave me another 60 points to add to my total, pushing me back up the charts to No32, although now I back down to no 36!

AHPC VII Bonus Round "West" John West II

Another entry into the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge. This is my entry into the West
Bonus round. I thought I'd follow on from the East bonus round and pick a name from history and
fit it into my Donnybrook project. There were a few West's to choose from but I chose the chap below. He was the most interesting, He's a Wargames foundry figure from there WSS collection. He's a civilian drover but I think he makes a great Militia leader.
There aren't many days left to vote, infact there's only 1!
But if you haven't and fancy voting for my, or one of the other entries, follow this link

John West II (1632-1689) was the son of Governor John West of Viginia and the grandson of both Thomas West, 2nd Baron De La Warr and Virginia Governor George Percy.

West served in the New Kent County Militia from 1652 to 1673, ending with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a supporter of Governor Berkeley during Bacon's Rebellion, and appears in the list compiled by the King's Commissioners of those who suffered grievances during the uprising:

"Col. John West a person greatly impaired in his stock & goods by the Rebells, and a most constant Loyall Gentleman during the late Rebellion, and was for some time after Bacons death Imprisoned by the Rebell Partie."

West served as a member of the courts-martials which tried the rebels.

In 1659, West's father died, the last of the four sons of Thomas West, 2nd Baron De La Warr who came to Virginia. In recognition of the family's contributions to the colonial enterprise, the Virginia Assembly passed the following Act:
"WHEREAS the many important favours and services rendred to the countrey of Virginia by the noble family of the West, predecessors to Mr. John West, their now only survivor, claim at least that a grateful remembrance of their former merrits be still continued to their survivor, It is ordered, That the levies of the said master West and his family be remitted, and that he be exempted from payment thereof during life."

In 1685 West represented New Kent in the House of Burgesses. His will dated November 15, 1689, was probated about 1691. It was destroyed along with the other County records in a fire in 1787.

AHPC VII Donnybrook - Woodland Indians with Muskets

Can't believe that this is Don't throw a 1's 600th post!
And for post 600, what better to have than 12 Perry Miniatures Woodland
Indians with muskets!
They were my 7th entry into the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge earning me
60 points, pushing me up into the top 30 for the first time!
Only just though, but I'm very happy with 29th place!

I've used a different flesh tone for these 12 First Nation, which I think works
a lot better than the previous tone. I've used Vallejo Saddle Brown, which has
a redder hue and in my opinion works better.

AHPC VII. Entry 3 - Donnybrook - 25mm Woodland Indians

"Concentrate on one thing at a time".........this is what I told myself in October, "Just
paint the French for Donnybrook in the Challenge".....did I listen?

Nope!

So for my third entry into this years Challenge I've painted up what I talked myself
into getting. Luckily for me I didn't buy any of these figures, 6 were part of my
Santa Claus pressie, (thanks again Santa) while the other 6 along with others were a
Xmas pressie from my 2 eldest daughters Emily and Abi.

The plan is (and my plans never seem to work out), is to paint up a 4 point Indian War party for Donnybrook, not for the French Indian Wars, but for the earlier King Philip's War 1675-78,
Bacon's Rebellion 1676 and King William's War in Canada 1688-97.
A 4 point army without characters is only 42 figures, so I may well double it up to an
8 point army??? (See what I mean about my plans?)

Anyway on with the figures...
They are from Warlord Games in the UK and will make up my first point of
 12 x Bow armed Recruits.
Now I'm not 100% happy with the paintjob to be honest, the figures look like they've had a month in the sun, with the fleshtone I've used. I knew halfway through they were to dark
but hey ho!! Suntanned they will have to remain.
These well oiled boys netted me 60 points pushing me up to 55th place in the AHPC VII.
