AHPC16 Donnybrook - Vienna 1683 - 25mm Polish Dragoons

"Once again the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is well and truly over, this post was originally posted here, on the 18th March and I've still got a lot of catching up to do with other Challenge posts."

Ray

Well, it wouldn't be a proper Painting Challenge with one of my Donnybrook entries now would it?
So just to keep you all happy.....here's one!!!

My green coated Polish Dragoons were prepped and undercoated at the start of Challenge 12 in 2021!!!
Isn't that bad that its taken me until now to put some paint on them?

My 9 Polish Dragoons, painted up for my Donnybrook Allied Army for the Relief of Vienna in 1683.
Check out my last post from March 2022, where I painted some Polish Command figures.

The figures are from Reiver Castings and were a joy to paint.

I'll be using the chap in the centre holding his pistol in the air as their Commander.

These 9 figures will give me 90 points.

Then we also have the dismounted version of the Dragoons.

Unfortunately at the time Reiver didn't have a dismounted Polish Dragoon figure, (not sure if they ever did get them made?)
So I had to fall back to my old favourites, Essex Miniatures.

As you can see, my leader is wearing a clock on the dismounted version and not on the mounted version.
I could have sculpted a cloak on the mounted version, but couldn't be arsed!!!

And here they are all together, the 45 points for the foot figures will be added to the 90 points for the mounted giving me a total of 135 points!!

from RayR - AHPC14 - Challenge Wrap up

My last post from the Challenge, originally posted on the AHPC blog on the 23rd March.

Well that went quick, didn't it?
Can't believe the Challenge is over for another year.
I'm already thinking about, what I can get ready for December and Challenge 15.

Thanks got to Curt & Sarah for all their hard work setting up and throughout the Challenge. Thanks to my Minion Teemu, and to all the other Minion's, I know how much time it took out of my painting schedule, when I was a minion!! Lastly a big thanks you to all you other Challengers who all help to make this Challenge what it is today. Especially those who found the time to comment on my posts, I really appreciate the encouragement.

Austrian Lothrengin Infantry & Bavarian Arco Horse

Ottoman Infntry, ElCid statue, St Dominic fountain, Highland Cattle, Star Wars AT AT's

Haitian Revolution Infantry and Cavalry

This year 25/28mm figures were dominate. I painted up...
127 x 25mm infantry figures
20 x 25mm Cavalry figures

The rest were various scales
2 x 1/1200 scale ships
1 x 54mm figure
3 x 2/6mm figures

In total 153 figures.

I always try and aim for a top 30 finish and top 10 finish would be preferred, but I'd have had to paint up another 600 points worth for 10th place, so was not achievable. I'd like to think my illness played a big part in that, but I'm not convinced that I could have painted up another 600 points worth of figures, if I had another month to paint!!!

Here's my performance so far in all the Challenges

Challenge II 4940 points 1st
Challenge III 2586 points 4th
Challenge IV 1227 points 17th
Challenge V 691 points 37th
Challenge VI 681 points 36th
Challenge VII 1093 points 24th
Challenge VIII 662 points 40th
Challenge IX 2274 points 8th
Challenge X 1687 points 11th
Challenge XI 2260 points 8th
Challenge XII 2168 points 7th
Challenge XIII 1111 points 27th
Challenge XIV 1160 points 25th

AHPC14 - Last Post ! Donnybrook Generals - Vienna 1683

After my Salute shenanigans, I'm going back to 18th March, when I originally posted these up on the

Well its finally here, the last few hours of the Challenge.

I shall finish with these two Reiver Castings Generals.

Both will be used for my evergrowing, never finishing Donnybrook love affair.

The chap on the left is still a tad shiny, because the varnish isn't dry yet.

An Austrian General in the uniform of regt Lothringen, from my previous post

And last but not least for this year, the General of the Bavarian Arco Horse.

2 x 25mm Cavalry
An easy 20pts

Phew!

Well done to one and all.

AHPC14 - Donnybrook - Austrian Infantry regt Lothringen, Vienna 1683. 125pts

This was originally posted late in the Challenge on 18th March.

Its 23.34 in England, I've gotta get up at 5.45, so I should be tucked up in bed at my age???
Instead I've just finished basing these figures up and taking some pics.

Here we have a few more figures for my Donnybrook, Vienna 1683 project

These 2 x 8 figure units represent the Austrian Infantry regt of Leopold von Herzog Lothringen

I did want to paint up a different regt but this one only needed red stockings, so would be quicker.

In addition to the infantry, we also have 4 Sergeants

Most of the figures are from Dixon minis, with a smattering of Wargames Foundry in the Sergeants and Officers.

Also Officers in blue coats and a drummer in red.

Rear view!

The flag was a copy of one from Warflag, which I then changed the colours to match the units differing colours and added the orb in the centre of the double headed eagle.

So all in all 25 x 25mm figures making a total of  125 points!

I do have 1 last post, but I don't know the figures are gonna dry in time???

AHPC14 - Vienna 1683 - Regiment of Horse Count Arco

This was posted on the AHPC blog on 14th March

Can't believe there's only 1 week to go till the end of the Challenge???
Where did all that time go?
So this will be my last Thursday entry for my Minion Teemu to post, thanks a lot for all your hard work and for giving us all the info on living in Finalnd! Sounds far to cold me me!
For this post I shall leave the sunny Caribbean and head back to Europe, Vienna to be precise.

During last years Challenge I painted up an Austrian Cuirassier regt, so this time I went for one of their allies, who came as part of the massive relief force.
The Bavarian Regiment of Horse Count Arco

The regiment was raised on 29 June 1682 by Elector Max Emanuel in Furth in Wald and Cham. It was composed of the old companies St. Bonifacio, Haraucourt, Perouse and Spinchal as well as the newly recruited companies "Rittmeister Franz Graf von Gabaleone" (Weilheim) and "Rittmeister Heinrich von Ponton" (Schrobenhausen). The first owner was General of Cavalry Karl Marquis of Haraucourt and Falkenberg, Count of Dalem, Baron of Torquin, who gave his name to the regiment. The first colonel commander was Lieutenant-Colonel Ludwig Count von St. Bonifacio. On 14 July 1683, Colonel Johann Baptist Count von Arco was appointed the owner of the regiment, which was then renamed the "Regiment of Horse Count Arco". At that time, the regiment numbered 600 men.
On 12 September 1683, during the Great Turkish War (1683–99), the regiment (8 companies for a total of 609 men and 649 horses) took part in the relief of Vienna.

The 9 figures are from Warfare Miniatures, originally I planned to paint them up as an English unit for the Sedgemoor Campaign, but I'll just have to buy more figures now? They will join the Austrian Imperialist army for more Donnybrook shenanigans!

So 9 x 25mm Cavalry @10 pts each, will give me 90pts

AHPC14 - Donnybrook - Vienna 1683 Ottoman Swordsmen 75pts

At last!
My first entry into this years Challenge!!!!

And I'm revisiting an old gem, my Donnybrook (surprise surprise) Vienna 1683 project..

The last time I posted any of these figures was in 2022, so it was good to finally get these figures painted.
They've been undercoated and in the paint queue for a long time.

The figures are from Essex Miniatures and were bought from fellow blogger Dave Crook, he was selling a massive collection of unpainted figures owned by a friend Eric, who sadly passed.
I can't find the figures on Essex' site, so I guess they may be a discontinued pose???
I wanted some poorer armed troops, most of the previous Ottomans I painted had muskets, so
I bought a selection of swords and shields from Magister Militum and glued them all in place, I guessing again but I think these were probably spear armed skirmish type troops when originally made? But no more!
I included 3 character figures, a Dark Age looking Commander, a standard bearer and a musician, although looking at him more closely, he could be an ACW Zouave?

Onto the points
15 x  25mm figures @ 5 points = 75 points.

Warbases - Donnybrook Hapsburg Farmstead.

I'm still on my break from the Haitian buildings, this time, although still on the buildings, I've crossed the pond to the Hapsburg Empire of the 1600's.
I wanted some Austrian style farm building, for my Ottomans to pillage on their way to Vienna.

The first building is quite obviously a barn, but its no mere barn in fact it started life as a Warbases, Eastern European barn. I wanted my farm to look a little unkempt and worn out, so painted in up in various shades of grey, to give it that aged look.

This models had to be based, because of the ramp, I'd have snapped that off in no time if I hadn't, so I added a few scenic items to the base, barrels, sacks and a rack.

I don't usually paint the inside of buildings, but as I glued the door partially open I thought it best.

The second building is also from Warbases and is sold as Easteren European House 1, again I kept to the dark dingy colour scheme.

Which I think works well?

I hadn't planned on painting the inside, but as I painted this and the barn together, before I realised it, I'd started it!

For the last house, I went with its been looked after a little more than the others. A painted door and shutter, on a newer browner wood.

I'm not sure If I'm keen on the colour of the roof? The tile strips were also bought from Warbases, but I'm just not sure..

This also can be purchased from Warbases under the name, Eastern European House 3

And guess what, I painted the inside of this one too???

So there you go, the start of my Donnybrook Vienna 1683 housing boom!

Donnybrook - Vienna 1683 - Polish Artilley

These figures were prepped and undercoated for me to paint up in the last Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge. Unfortunately they didn't make it. They were sitting on my desk looking all forlorn, so I thought I'd better give them a lick of paint.

For some reason I had a lot of trouble finding Polish artillerymen for my Vienna 1683 project, no one except Old Glory seems to make them?  And I certainly didn't need 30 figures!

All the figures bar one are from Essex Miniatures, the chap on the left drinking a bottle of Mrs Migginski's finest Vodka was a freebie from The Assault Group. I didn't know how I was going to use the figure, so decided he'd make a good artilleryman.

I had to use a Spearman, Standard Bearer and Halbardier  from Essex's Renaissance Polish range to make up the 4 crew of my gun and a spare Polish Officer, I bought just incase and also another commander, this one dressed in western uniform. The gun is actually a British Napoleonic piece standing in as Polish, shhhh don't tell anyone.
