AHPC9 Donnybrook - Reiver Castings Militia

 Oh look, yet more Donnybrook!!!!
I do like it when you can have versatile figures, and that's exactly what these are.

The figures are from Reiver Castings, and can be purchased here.
For the princely sum of £11

They can and hopefully will be used in the following armies.
Monmouth's Rebels
King Phillip's War Militia
&
Irish Rapparees

These 10  bad boys were worth 5 points each so earned me 50 points.

AHPC9 Donnybrook - Warfare Miniatures Militia

Surprise Surprise!!!
More Donnybrook shenanigans!!!
I bought these 50 Warfare Miniatures last year at The Other Partizan wargame show,
from Mr Beneath the Lily Banners Hilton himself.

These are very multi-purpose figures and are something that were missing from
the late 1600's figure range. Dixon's and Reiver do have similar figures, but not in this many poses. And this is only the start, there will be more poses from Warfare minis!!

I mainly wanted these figure to use as Militia for Bacon's Rebellion or King Philips War in America,
but they will also be used as Rebels in the army of the Duke of Monmouth
at the Battle of Sedgemoor. And also they can be used for as either side in Ireland in the Boyne campaign.

There are 30 Musketeers and 20 Pikemen/Sythmen
I do have another 10 Pikemen to paint up, but I've only just bought some different
weapons for them to hold, hopefully they'll be painted during the Challenge???

These 50 x 25mm figures earned me a very nice 250 points to add to my tally.

Which at the moment stands at 1309 points!
I had given myself a quite modest target of 1200 points this year, but
I've got my mojo working at the moment, its just like the old days.
I can't seem to put the brush down. Which is getting the dreaded lead pile down
ever so slightly!

You too can buy these great figures from Warfare Miniatures, to add to your collections, or maybe even start a new one????   just click this link

I kept the palette very basic, keeping mostly to various shades of grey and brown
with the odd splash of colour here and there.

Once again I used the inking method on these figures, I think it worked perfectly, especially
on the apostles and lighter coloured shirts.

And to finish a few pics of the back of the figures

AHPC 9 Donnybrook - The Last Farewell

Another entry from me today and yes its more Donnybrook!!!
These figures are from a set from Col Bills called 17thc Soldiers Farewell

Here's the original look of the figures, obviously they're ECW figures, but
I did a bit of snipping, filing and gluing. Adding a bit of greenstuff, making cuffs and
elongating coats.

To change them from ECW to soldiers from the 1690's

I'm very pleased how they turned out to be honest.

These Col Bill's figures should earned me 35 points lifting me up
into 9th....yes 9th place!!!

The Days of King Monmouth - A short booklet review

If you're a regular reader of my blog you may have noticed that I'm a tad partial to the period in history between the ECW and the WSS. So naturally I tend to look for and buy books on the period, I do own several other books on Monmouth's Rebellion and the Battle of Sedgemoor. So when I noticed a new booklet being published, "The Days of King Monmouth" by Ralph Mitchard. it was a no brainer, especially as it was a mere £6 plus postage!
The book runs out at 45 pages and has both colour and black & white illustrations. But what I like the most is the booklet is written as a day by day account, starting on the 1st June when Monmouth sailed to Judge Jeffreys Bloody Assizes.
There are books and booklets with more info in them of course, but for a wargamer, this is gold, with details on the Skirmish at Bridport, the rout of the Somerset Militia, the Skirmish at Ashill and at Keynsham Bridge, the Battle of Philips Norton and of course the Battle of Sedgemoor. The 6 week War is a perfect Skirmish period for any gamer, so if you're interested in the period my advice is buy it!

You can purchase the booklet direct from Ralph's site here or on ebay here

Postie the Devil

Some of you may already know the name of Postie.
He is the Titular leader of The Rejects.
He is also a git!

The Little Devil himself

Several years ago I painted up stacks of 25mm Dixon figures for the Battle of Sedgemoor, for the man himself. Postie sorted the regts out in a ratio, so every unit had a different number of figures, at the time he didn't know what set of rules he would use, here's a link to some of the figures I previously posted.
Now comes the Git part......the figures have actually never made it out for a game, so a couple of months ago Postie decided to sell them, I tried to talk him out of it, but as usually he wouldn't listen. He even tried to get me to buy them, now I would have loved them, but  I was already well into my 15mm armies for the NYW, and I didn't have the £1800 he wanted for them as well as the look the Mrs gave me when she overheard me and Postie chatting about it. I decided that I wanted my nuts to stay in the sack, I thought better of it!
Anyway I very stupidly said to Postie, "Why don't you re-base the figures for Beneath the lily Banners Rules?" This got Posties interest as he'd played a couple of games in 15mm and liked the rules. He ummed and arred for a few days and said, no because he'd have to paint more figures for each unit blah, blah, blah, then all of a sudden somehow I'd agreed to paint all the bloody figures up for him for nothing???? I'm still trying to work out how he did it? Did he put something in my cuppa tea, was it really cheese in the sandwich, or has he really got Supernatural powers? I still haven't worked it out?

Anyway I've painted up all the extra figures for the cavarly for both sides, which was around 20 odd figures and now its Infantry time. Here are a few pics of The Queen Dowagers regt, otherwise known as Kirke's Lambs.

Sedgemoor 1685

Two years ago my megalomaniac mate Postie bought some of the then new Dixon figures for the Battle of Sedgemoor. As I’m a hard up mug with lots of little BRATS to feed, (all my fault, I know), I agreed to paint up his figures, for a large amount of dosh & a packet of winegums. The job I was in at the time allowed me lots of time to paint, so after around 5 months I’d finished all the figures. I enjoyed painting them, when i first saw them unpainted they didn’t look much of a figure, pretty boring actually, but I was quite surprised and pleased with the final result.

Below are a few photo’s of the some of the Sedgemoor figures. Hope you like them, all comments welcome!!!
