28mm 4Ground Dutch Houses

All's been very quiet painting wise at Cassa Rousell over the summer.
I, believe it or not have stacks still to paint, but to be honest just couldn't be arsed. I do think
the Painting Challenge does have a part to play here.
Anyway, as painting was out of the question I thought I'd get some buildings made up.
The 4 buildings are all from 4Grounds World at War series, but I'll be using them for the earlier
Donnybrook period.

I was quite impressed with them to be honest, they fitted together very well and took roughly 5 hours work to complete each one.

This is Dutch House 1

You buy it with only 1 floor

But I bought extension's for the buildings.

3 Foundry figures for scale

Dutch House 2

This is my favourite building

Rear view

Dutch House 2 as you buy it with just the 1 upper floor

Dutch House 3 & another Dutch House number 2

I did have 1 slight problem, 2 of the packs didn't have enough roof tiles, I called the
guys at 4Ground and explained my annoying problem.

Three days later, I received a parcel in the post. containing 8 roof sheets!!!
So I swapped the roof colour of my second Dutch house 2 to a Blue roof.

out the back

Well worth every penny spent!!!!

Now what shall I do????

AHPC9 BLB - NYW Spanish brigade 1692

Back down to 15mm for my next Painting Challenge entry.
I've been promising myself that I'd paint a Spanish brigade for my Beneath the
Lily Banners rules for a few years now. well 5 years to be exact, where'd that time go??
I bought a copy of The Spanish Armies of the League of Augsberg, here, after winning a competition which got the juices flowing.....
So here we are!

There are 4 units of infantry, 4 artillery pieces, a stand of Grenadiers
and 3 commanders. All the figures are from Donnington, which are not my usual
goto company for my NYW figures. I bought 98% of this on ebay for  a bargain price.
Then had to top up a few bits and bobs. They are a little larger than Essex, but hey ho
beggars can't be choosers!

A pic from the back

Tercio Sevilla or old Violet’s (Morados viejos)
Maestros de Campo : (1685) D. Thomas de los Cobos y Luna, (1695) D. Francisco Antonio Diaz Pimienta

Tercio Cordova or old Green’s (Verdes viejos)
Maestros de Campo : (1682) D. Carlos de Eguia, (1691) D. Juan Vasquez de Acuña, (october 1694) D. Esteban de Olalla

Tercio Valladolid or old Yellow’s (Amarillos viejos)
Maestros de campo : (1677) D. Antonio Serrano, (1689) D. Pedro Tolesano y Velasco,
(1695) D. Fernando Davila Bravo de Laguna.

Tercio de Aragon
Maestros de Campo : (1678-1691) Artal de Azlor, conde de Guara,
(1692) Guillén Ramon de Moncada, marqués de Aytona, (1693) D. Geronimo Pérez de Nueros y Pueyo

1 Heavy, 2 Medium & 1 Light artillery piece

1 Base of Grenadiers

Governor General and Captain General of Flanders

03/01/1686-December 1691 D. Francisco Antonio de Agurto, Marqués de Gastañaga.

D. Juan Vasquez de Acuña

D. Pedro Tolesano y Velasco

Spanish flags are a right pain, there were a quite a number captured at various battles
But we don't know which flag belongs to which regiment, with the exception of
Tercio Aragon on the left. So I picked the ones I liked and added them to the regts.
All flags are taken from the book previously mentioned,
The Spanish Armies in the War of the League of Augsberg 1688-97
by Giancarlo Boeri, Josè Luis Mirecki and Josè Palau with Artwork by Robert Hall
available from The Pike & Shot Society

So by my calculations we have
4 x 21 figure units =  168
6 x Grenadiers = 12
12 x Artillerymen = 24
4 x Artillery pieces = 16
6 x Commanders = 24
For a total of 244 points!!
But Minion Lee awarded me a few bonus points taking me up to 250 points
and cementing me in 8th place in the Challenge.

RP No 170 NYW French Generals

Well the Analogue Painting Challenge is over for another year. These 6 Nine Years War French Generals were entered as my last entry earning me a mere 24 points. Pushing me up to my best position in the Challenge so far this year No 36. But in the final hours I was knocked down a place to finish at the lofty heights of No 37!
I've already got some French Generals, that Reject Richard painted up, but these will be used as CnC's or 2nd in command Generals, these 6 will be used as Brigadiers.
They're based up for my much preferred set of rules for the period,  Beneath the Lily Banners. I may one day yet get on the field of battle????

RP No 166 NYW French - Gardes Suisses

The Swiss Guard was a regiment that could trace its ancestry back to at least 1590. In 1615
it was first mentioned as a guard regiment and it was completed and functioning as such
by 1616. By 1700 it numbered 12 companies of Swiss soldiers, but like elsewhere these
were larger than French companies, so that the Swiss Guards could field four battalions.
All companies were commanded by Swiss captains, but the 'general's' was commanded
by a Frenchman. The traditional position of the Swiss Guards was in the first line
just to the left of the French Guards.

On 10 October 1685 Pierra Stuppa (1620-1701) became colonel of the Swiss Guard. On 19 May 1691 the Swiss Guard was in camp at Hauterive. Here it fielded two battalions which were in there traditional position to the left of the French Guards, while three more were in the second line. In April-March 1691 it participated in the siege of Mons with three battalions. On 24 July 1692 it was near Namur with two battalions in the first line and two in the second. In the 3 August 1692 battle of Steenkerque it participated with at least two battalions, who were ranged to the left of the French Guard. On 6 January 1701 Colonel Stoppa, called the old Stoppa died at age 83. On 10 January 1701 he was succeeded by Maurice Wagner.

Another entry into the Analogue Painting Challenge, this bad boys earned me 42 points
and pushed me back up to  No 38!!!
Like the Gardes Francaises I had to do a little conversion work on the command figures, the
leader and the 2 standard bearers are actually English Grenadiers, with their heads lopped
off and swapped with other figures!
The figures are my usual Essex minis and the flags are from Maverick

RP No 153 NYW French Royal Grammont Dragoons

This unit confused the hell out of me, I couldn't work out why and how there were two different regts of French Dragoons named Listenois, at different times with different uniforms. I could have painted them in the old Listenois uniform of a yellow coat, now how cool would that have looked??

Royal Grammont were raised for the term of 100 years by Charles, Paul of Bauffremont, Marquis of Listenois on 14 September 1673, as the Bauffremont or Listenois Dragons, he died at the battle of Saint François at Entheim on 4 October 1674.
Pierre of Bauffremont, Marquis of Listenois took over the Dragoons on 14 November 1674.
Then came a break from the House of Bauffremont, on 30 August 1685 Jean Ferdinand, Count of Grammont became the Mestre de Camp when they were known as the Royal Grammont Dragoons.
They changed leaders once more in January 1696 when they were led by the Knight of Malta Jean du Mas, Viscount Payzac or Peyssac, (depending on the spelling), the younger brother of the Marquis of Payzac. They were known as the Peyssac Dragoons.
Then the unit came back home when Jacques Antoine of Bauffremont, the Marquis of Listenois became the next Mestre de Camp on 20 May 1699, he was killed the 24th September 1710 during an exit from the city of Aire.
Louis Benigne of Bauffremont, the Marquis of Bauffremont became the next Mestre de Camp later in 1710 and I'll think we'll leave the unit history there......

The Royal Grammont Dragoons earned me 94 points in the
Placing me back up to the dizzy heights of No 19 again!!!

You'd never believe that these are Essex figures would you??
The flag is from Maverick Models.
