AHPC11 - Donnybrook - Jacobite's and their Flags

I think I have a problem?
Yes, I do own a secret Scottish Jacobite army for Donnybrook!!!
But I had no standard bearers, so.........

Cameron of Lochiel's a Redoubt figure

Another Cameron flag, this time a Reiver Casting figure.

Another Reiver Casting carrying the McDonald of Clanranald flag

Finally a Reiver figure carrying the St Andrews Cross

All the brilliant flags come from that giant of a flag maker Sir Iain of McDonald at  Flags of War

Here we have a Warlord figure representing Alisdair 'The Devastator' Mac Colla

From Warlord
"This is Warlord's take on perhaps the most dangerous man in the British Isles at the time...Alasdair MacColla "The Devastator", a man who went by many names, some rarely used out loud! This legendary Highland warrior came from the Isles and grew famous for his startling strength, size and ferocity..."

Most of my Scottish force are Redoubt figures, which a on the larger side of large, so this Warlord figure fits is really well, he'll be used as a character or commander.

So 4 x 25mm figures will add a further 25 points to my total.

AHPC9 Donnybrook - Highlander Master of Hounds & Bard

Yes I know.....more Donnybrook!
But you can never have enough of a good thing....right?
In the Highlander army list in Donnybrook, one of the characters you may use is
"The Master of Hounds"

The Scots figure is a standard bearer from pack SKU : JFR20 in Reiver Castings Jacobite range.
With his left arm chopped off a repositioned.
I wasn't sure how and what to use for the dogs lead or whether or not to have one at all.
In the end I went with some plane and simple fuse wire.
Which I think works pretty well?

The Hounds are from Gripping Beast pack PCT14 Pict pack Master & Hounds

"The Master of Hounds controls a pack of hunting dogs bred by the Clan. He is armed with a short sword and controls 3 dogs. When they attack the player rolls a d3. The result is the number of dogs who lunge that turn. Add the Master to the attack. So at full strength there will be 4 attacks, while the minimum is 2. The dogs do not check morale when taking casualties and fight to the death. If the Master loses all his dogs he fights on alone.
When attacking, any dog throwing a 1 has gone wild and turns on its own side. If a Unit or Character other than the Master is withing 12 inches in immediately attacks the them. If none are present the dog turns on the Master. Enemy characters attacked by the hounds must throw a 6+ on their activation die to fight back as they may be terrified by the beast. Shooting at the dogs from any distance further than 6 inches can be done as normal but shooters re roll any hits. Dogs are a fast moving and a low profile target. Shooting at dogs within 6 inches requires the 6+ score to overcome the proximity fear but there are no "to hit" minuses. Dogs have the same ability as their Master."

From Donnybrook by Clarence Harrison & Barry Hilton

The only trouble is he looks a little lost without the dogs!

Another character in the Highlander list is the Bard.

"The Bard inspires the clan through his recording and retelling of their incredible deeds and heroism. He recites before during and after the action in verse and song. He must be attached to a unit. It moves up one Ability die type (e.g: Recruit are d8 instead of d6). If the enhanced Unit fails a morale check it reverts to its original Ability level. The Bard's gifts do not affect other Characters. The Bard is armed with a sgian dubh, a silver tongue and a melodious timbre!"

From Donnybrook by Clarence Harrison & Barry Hilton

The figure is also from the same pack as the dogs, he is infact a Pict Master of Hounds!!
But I thought he'd fit the Bard character better, as he looks unarmed and doesn't look the
warrior type??

Points wise.......2 x 25mm figures is 10 points and whatever our luvvly Minon wants to give me for the 3 Hounds plus a little conversion work????

AHPC9 Donnybrook - 25mm Jacobite Artillery

Firstly, thank you to all you lovely lot out there who voted me into second place in the
"Sport" bonus round. I had a lot of fun creating the figures and have been asked what rules I plan to use to play Lacrosse with them. I don't know how to play Lacrosse, never mind make rules up for them!!!

Another week has passed and I've been very busy with the brush!

I've stayed with the Jacobite Highlanders again this week, but have gone for
the simpler form of artillery.

All the Highlander figures are like the Horse in my last post from Reiver Castings, while
the artillery are from Parkfield Miniatures and Wargames Foundry.

There are 7 x artillerymen

And 2 guns

Also there are a few packs of Trade Goods from Crooked Dice
that can be used as hastily built barricades.

7 x 25mm  35 points
2 x artillery 15 points??? (Should be 10 points each, but one's a tiddler?)
5 x various trade goods ?????

Lee was very generous and gave me 70 points in total!!!
Which along with another group of figures pushed me up to 7th place.
My highest placing in around 4 years!!!

Flags of War Jacobite Rebellion 1745 Kickstarter

Back in July along with many other bods, I signed up for my first ever Kickstarter.
I've spoken to Iain many times and bought many of his great flags from Flags of War before and so have the other Rejects. So when he announced his foray into the '45 Rebellion, I was very tempted.
I have previously owed the 45 in both 15mm and 25mm, selling them both on to offers I couldn't refuse!! Both to Postie by the way, its about time he played a game with the buggers!!!

I have been collecting a few pre painted Highlanders from Redoubt minis, these have not yet made it to the blog. Of course the plan is to use these for another Donnybrook army, Killikrankie and the like, these figures will make a great addition to their ranks and I may well add a few redcoats and have a British army for the 45? You never know?

I pledged for Prestonpans package which included 6 packets of figures and 1 set of flags.
The box arrived yesterday afternoon, I did get the evil eye from the Mrs when I got in, I think she thought it was a Xmas pressie, but then looked at the box and realised I'd made a secret purchase, Doh!
So here's the figures......

Oooooo shiny.....

Flags for Cameron's and McDonald's

And here's a pic of each individual bag.
I just love the figure Red Fox, second from left.

Luvvly!

Must buy more superglue

Love the poses especially the chap on the right.

Defo more glue needed

The Boss!

No, Thank you Iain

RP No 144 NYW - Jacobite Militia

Possibly and I do mean possibly my last unit ever for the NYW in Ireland. I've pondering the idea of an Irish Militia unit for quite some time now, and with the hopefully soon to be released Irish Campaign book for Beneath the Lily Banners (come on Barry, I'm waiting!!) coming out soon, they should be of use. This unit unusually for my troops has no name, it represents either a very hastily raised body of men or a very poorly equipped Jacobite Irish unit.
As you can see the unit is entirely made up of hand weapons with no firearms at all. I was going to make them an all pike unit but as I had a few figures left from my Irish Rapparees, I thought I'd add them to the unit just to spice it up a little. For games they will be classed as an all pike unit.
I'm not too sure if the Jacobite players will like to have this unit in their army, I can see it being used as support, you don't really want to push these chaps out in front! Mind you they may do a lot of damage to a Cavalry unit if they're daft enough to charge them, of course that's if they stand their ground and except the charge!!!
I did make a bit of a boo boo though, I should have made the flag more generic, then I could have used it for both sides. Its supposed to represent a Holy Banner taken from a church, I think its a little more Catholic looking than Protestant, so it'll probably stay a Jacobite unit!!

Not sure if there's a glitch on blogger at the moment but my hit count has gone mental since my last post. BigLee's die roll challenge has had 2500+ hits since the 16th???? And in the last three days I've had over 5000 hits altogether?? Not that I'm complaining of course. Has anyone else seen a strange increase??

RP No 130 Killiecrankie Commanders & Lokis Givaway

Originally myself and Reject Richard agreed to paint up an army each to play the rules Beneath the Lily Banners. I was to paint up the Flanders army for King William III while Richard would paint up the army of Louis XIV of France. As I get quite a bit more painting time than poor Richard, my Flanders army was soon complete, while Richard was lagging behind a little. So I came up with another plan. Paint up the jacobite army of King James, these can then be added to Richard's French to fill out the ranks, of course it didn't stop there, I had to paint up the Williamites as well, why i just couldn't use the English I'd already painted up for Flanders I don't know?????
Now that army is nearly complete, I've painted but not posted the last regts I need for the Irish campaign, so feeling a little lost I decided to cross the Irish Sea to Scotland and paint up the Scots Jacobites for the Battle of Killicranckie. The Scots are painted and have already been posted, here. Now once again I could have used the Flanders or the Irish commanders for Killiecrankie but being the fool I am, I bought more and painted them up as well and here they are!!!!!
They were entered in the Analogue Painting Challenge, earning me 69 points

The Williamite CnC, Lieutenant General Hugh Mackay

The Williamite 2nd in C - Colonel Bartholomew Balfour

3rd in C,  David Melville 3rd Earl of Levan

Jacobite 2nC, Col Alexander Cannon

Sir John McLean

Sir Ewan Cameron

Sir Alexander MacLean

And lastly the Jacobite CnC - John Graham, 7th Laird of Claverhouse, 1st Viscount Dundee
