A Pillion in New York

I always illustrate my Pillion posts with a picture of Alexander Skarsgård so let's shake it up and go with his co-star and leading man Harry Melling today, because we've come to be enormous fans of his over the past few years. Not just the biggun, our beloved Please Baby Please (which is the obvious forerunner to Pillion given that they're both about mousy dudes finding love and lust through leather daddies), but also an extremely underrated turn in The Devil All the Time -- not a perfect movie but he was amazing in it. Really any time Harry shows up we're enthused to watch his riveting face and so Pillion's been on our GIMME THAT FUCKING THING NOW list since it premiered at Cannes -- okay technically well before Cannes because I am On This Sorta Shit and posted about this movie getting made a full year before it premiered at Cannes. Anyway my great wish for NYFF came true -- today they announced that Pillion is indeed in the line-up for next month's fest, huzzah! It's part of their Spotlight Section which also includes the Springsteen biopic with Jeremy Allen White that I mentioned yesterday, along with fresh reveals -- two movies from Richard Linklater, a five-part docuseries about Martin Scorsese, the new one from Paolo Sorrentino and Daniel Day-Lewis' triumphant (one assumes) return to acting in his son's first film. Check the whole list at FLC's site. Let the countdown until Pillion commence!

Yes It's the Pillion Trailer

Yesterday I shared the first pair of posters for Pillion with you and now -- yes a few hours late but whatever, I'm busy! -- we've got the trailer! The responsible portion of me feels the need to say what Pillion is about every time I post about Pillion but I've posted about Pillion a billion (heh rhymes) times now and I think y'all know that this is the movie where Alexander Skarsgard takes Harry melling on as his sub boy. Anyway as I also said yesterday my review of this from NYFF is incoming and I'll link to that when "incoming" has actually "come" but for now, do watch:

I'm actually surprised A24 already dropped this trailer since the movie's not in theaters until February, but hey -- nobody's gonna complain about some of Alexander's cum-gutters hitting any ol' day, I think. Not here on this website anyway.

Good Morning, Pillion Trailer

The above quite stimulating gif, isn't actually from the just dropped "new" trailer for Pillion -- I will share that trailer down below, but I don't actually think it's that different from the first trailer they dropped when the movie hit the U.K. to be honest. (They certainly didn't decide to switch it up and use any of the choice quotes I gave them in my review of the movie in it, much to my annoyance.) But speaking of my annoyance -- that gif isn't from the trailer because the movie leaked onto the world wide web this week, thanks to the movie hitting digital in the U.K. where it already came out in theaters at a reasonable date several weeks back. I posted about this on Bluesky yesterday...

Part of me's annoyed PILLION inevitably leaked online now before hitting US theaters because you SHOULD see it in theaters in February. But A24 really mucked up its release & of course the second it hit digital in the UK it's gonna be everywhere. Also our US version might get butchered by MPAA so...

... so perhaps this whinging will be redundant to you and I apologize, but this seemed an inevitability to me given A24's weird staggering of this wonderful movie's release -- I know because I have heard from all of you many times how annoyed you were that all the press for it was dropping back in the fall but you'd have to wait until February to see the movie here in the States, and believe me, it seemed an inexplicable choice to me as well. On my end -- given I've now seen the movie around four times, unlike you unluckier sorts -- I found the entire thing annoying because I have no idea where to place Pillion for awards consideration. Do I list it as a 2025 movie or a 2026 movie? I'm probably going to go with the former and include it with my Best of 2025 list whenever that drops, but I honestly think this movie could've done better this awards season if A24 had been clearer about all of this. And now the entire movie is out there on the internet if you know where to look. (No I will not be giving you pirating lessons this day, sorry.) Anyway here's the "new" trailer:

Pillion is (inexplicably) out on February 20th.
Please do go see it then. It rules.

Who's a Good Boys

Despite all of the weird release delays I'm still so happy that A24 was the company that snapped up Harry Lighton's "dom-com" Pillion y'all. They're the best at ridiculous marketing gimmicks and without them selling this movie I'd never have gotten to own an orgy commemorative plate (see below) or a "Good Boys" candle as seen above, which they've just dropped the pre-order for on their site. And where would my life be without these things??? Anyway that delightful doggie candle is in honor of the movie hitting VOD today at last -- you can rent it right here. And if you happened to miss my review of my fourth favorite movie of 2025 one of the ten thousand other times that I posted it since seeing it at NYFF last fall, click here. In the email where A24 announced the VOD drop they also mention that the blu-ray for Pillion is coming soon -- I do hope they consider a 4K disc! -- and surely I'll scream about that when the time comes, too. I been Pillion-pilled!!!

It's All Leather & Paddles

Apologies to the one commenter who keeps getting very angry at me for saying that Pillion is out in U.S. theaters this week because it's not out EVERYWHERE -- apologies because I am going to do it again! Pillion is out today, in SOME U.S. cities, some LUCKY U.S. cities, but I've already seen the movie like four times so I'm not keeping track anymore of where and when it's expanding. I assume it will eventually move on to smaller cities and then it will be on streaming and then we can all touch ourselves in unison to it -- a true happy ending. Anyway my NYFF review of the film from last fall can be read at Pajiba -- I love the movie and I am especially happy to see that A24 just dropped the vinyl of the film's score for pre-sale on their website, buy it here. That's the slutty back cover above and we co-sign. And also...

Blessings bestowed upon @thequeerreview.com and @jameskleinmann.com and photographer Mettie Ostrowski for giving PILLION director Harry Lighton the full leather-man treatment alongside their interview; read that here: thequeerreview.com/2026/02/06/i...

... as you can see there director Harry Lighton played Leather Man for our pal James at Queer Review today, so you should click over and check out that interview and those hot-damn buncha photos. Do we have a new hottest movie director? I think we got a contender. Anyway speaking of A24 selling physical media they announced this morning that Marty Supreme will be available on VOD this upcoming Tuesday, when you will also be able to pre-order the blu-ray or 4K disc from their website. Maybe wait til Tuesday to buy the Pillion score and the Marty disc together and save on shipping. There are two of the movies in my Top 10 of 2025! Heck they're in my Top 5. Good shit! Thanks again, A24.

Shut Up The Gays Are Talking!

The time has come for the queers to take it away! (When isn't it that time...) The queer critics guild GALECA (of which yours truly is a member) has announced the nominations for our annual Dorian Awards today, and per usual we did good, better, best than most. As ever, because I'm an old crank, I could take issue with some of the people who did get nominated -- I loathe Ethan Hawke's performance in Blue Moon, for instance -- and I could take issue with some of the people who didn't get nominated -- I can't believe we, a group of queer people, didn't have love in our hearts for the best animated movie oif the year by leaps and bounds Boys Go To Jupiter -- but I'll just shut my yap and clap my paws because overall...

... we did very good. A couple of nominations for Pillion! (Even though as I stated earlier today who could be sure which year A24 wants that movie to fall under with their weird release strategy,) A couple of nominations for Hedda, a movie which should be getting much more attention by the big guys -- I can't believe that Tessa Thompson and Nina Hoss probably won't get Oscar nominations whilst steaming crap like the Wicked sequel will. What a world, what a world, indeed. Anyway congrats to all of the nominees (except Ethan Hawke) and if you want to hit the jump I will share our press release with all of the nominations...

Skarsgård & Leather

It's wild that this outfit only dropped yesterday given how many more headline-grabbing outfits Alexander Skarsgård has been photographed in at Cannes since the above one, but the Gay BDSM Biker movie called Pillion that he stars in opposite Please Baby Please sub Harry Melling premiered at the fest then and this outfit did its job -- everybody around the globe stopped dead in their tracks and gawked. I posted several more on Bluesky so check 'em here -- slightly more important that Alex doing Tom of Finland drag though (slightly) is the fact that word of mouth on the movie itself out of the fest is very good! (And very hot too!) So I'm just gonna need this movie sooner rather than months from now. Do you hear me, A24? (And also I expect a positively pervy collection of Pillion-themed swag for sale in your shop as well!) Anyway while making France his bitch Alex has made out with Pedro Pascal and worn thigh-high leather boots and spangled pants as well, but I gotta admit the short-shorts he's been rocking today have been pretty top too! (See more here.) He' might single-handedly rescue 2025 from the shit-heap y'all. May the Pillion press tour save us!

Happy Birthday, Harry Lighton

The writer-director of Pillion Harry Lighton is celebrating his birthday today and what better way to wish him a good one than to stare at this photo of him getting squeezed and manhandled by his leading leatherman Alexander Skarsgard at this weekend's Pillion screening in London? No better. As noted when I saw these two do a Q&A for the film a few weeks ago here in NYC Lighton is himself a dish, and this image of the two of them all leathered + trussed up at an after-party for the movie is very much going onto my lifetime mood-board. Click here if you missed my NYFF review of Pillion, a truly terrific movie. Out in February here in the U.S.!

Today's Mood

This photo of Alexander Skarsgård with his twenty feet of bare gams tossed in the air at the Cannes photoshoot for his BDSM-com Pillion back in May is more of an aspirational mood than an actual one -- no one could ever actually achieve this mood lest you actually be Alexander Skarsgård, I think. But one can dream! Or one can just zoom in and in and up Alex's short shorts -- whatever. I think I can safely promise you that Alex isn't offended. (And these two photos are both very large so yes, click to embiggen and zooming is easy.) Anyway I made note of this outfit at the time (twice actually), as I have with basically everything he's worn on the still-going Pillion campaign, but this precise photo only got dropped in the past 24 hours so obviously the flashback was worth it. If you missed my review of Pillion click here. I'm dying to see it again. And again. And again. And...

Pick a Peck of Pillion

I don't know who that lucky chap standing with the camera is but down there under him is Alexander Skarsgård (hence him being a lucky chap) -- this is a set photo from Pillion that was included with a few others in a new Interview Magazine interview with writer-director Harry Lighton that I recommend reading! (thx Mac) Probably read it only if you've seen the movie already because I do feel like there are some spoilers contained therein -- and on that note, you know how yesterday I told y'all that Pillion is going nationwide on February 20th? Well I got an email today saying February 27th instead. SIGH. I am just the messenger! Okay? Don't take it out on me! I'm sorry! Anyway that aside there is some cool other news buried in that Interview Mag chat that I hadn't heard before -- apparently Lighton has written the script for History of Sound director Oliver Hermanus' upcoming bio-pic of the designer Alexander McQueen?? I did know that Hermanus was working on this project -- see this post from May of last year here -- but I didn't know Harry Lighton was writing, and has apparently now finished, the script. That's exciting! That said Lighton also admits in this interview that he's never seen a single Rainer Werner Fassbinder movie, and... Harry. Come over. We'll do a binge. I have such sights to show you...

The Daily Pillion Post

Just in case staring at beautiful and talented men being funny and thoughtful and charming whilst speaking about a wonderful piece of exceptionally horny gay art they created together is your thing (and I am assuming here at MNPP that it would be) there above are some photos and videos from last night's special Pillion screening here in NYC last night. Disgustingly handsome writer-director Harry Lighton is seen there sandwiched between his two stars, Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, just as we all would be so fortunate to be. What a trio! What a movie! Read my review here if you have not done so yet. And thus went my daily Pillion post.

Good Morning, Melling

I'd whinged previously that while I love a good slutty Alexander Skarsgård photoshoot (do I!) I didn't feel as if his extremely talented Pillion co-star Harry Melling should be left out even if he is, you know, less conventionally attractive. So seeing these photos last night made me happy!  I know they're not "slutty" per se but we'll take what we can get. Anyway it's true, the rumors are true, Pillion is out in U.S. theaters TOMORROW. Hard to believe the day's finally come after all the excruiating edging that A24 has put us through for months and months but your day has arrived, folks. Read my review of the movie from NYFF right here. Pillion was also #4 on my favorite movies of 2025 list, even if A24 made me extremely confused whether I should count it as 2025 or 2026 -- I figured by a year from now... well who fucking knows where we'll be a year from now. So tell the people that you love that you love them while you can, and do the same things with the movies! That's my Thursday morning heap of wisdom for you.

Pillion Reaching Completion

It's been a long hard ride for Pillion and the people who love it -- the dom-com starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling edged us all fall awards season long (I saw and reviewed it at NYFF in October) only to wait until February to give us a U.S. theatrical release proper. The Oscars ignored it (because of course they did, they're lame) and I put it in my top five movies of the year, and now after all this time, it's finally coming... out on blu-ray! A24 dropped the pre-order earlier today -- grab it at this link. I don't really understand why it's not 4K but at least they're promising the "unrated  theatrical cut" which... I have no idea what that means to be honest. I saw it like three times but they were all in the fall during festival and awards screenings -- I never could really suss out what cut was what after that. I guess I'll know when I sit down and watch this after it ships out in July. Just in time for my birthday! Bend me over a picnic table and give me my present, Alex!

A Pair of Pillion Posters

A24 dropped two posters for their forthcoming Gay BDSM Romance Pillion today -- one featuring star Alexander Skarsgård seen above and one featuring star Harry Melling on, you know, the bottom. Heheh see what I did there? Sso clever. So naughty! That's me in a nutshell. Aaaanyway they're also promising the first trailer will drop tomorrow so I imagine you should stay tuned. And you should likewise stay tuned because this movie screens at NYFF this Thursday and Friday and there might just be a review from yours truly dropping shortly. Just saying! Get your nutshells ready.

Alexander Skarsgård, Leather Queen

As you may or may not have heard (although all signs point to "have") I'm in the middle of New York Film Festival duties right now, and for the most part (save yesterday but don't ask) having a grand old time. You can see what there is of coverage so far right here, with the caveat slash promise that lots more coverage will be coming. Anyway I figured I'd share the above photos and videos that I took over the weekend of Pillion writer-director Harry Lighton with his star Alexander Skarsgard at a non-NYFF-specific screenng of that movie -- which I reviewed here -- because there's never not a right time for the Skarsgård. And speaking of Sir Alex -- we've been deeply enjoying the BDSM-flavored outfits he's been rocking on the red carpets for Pillion so far, and it seems like a poll would be fun. Right? Right. Pick your favorite master...

Pic of the Day

It's your daily Pillion post! Okay I doubt I can keep this up until February when the movie comes out (especially with two weeks off at the end of this month) so -- enjoy it while it lasts! A new batch of behind-the-scens photos dropped (thx Mac) and you can see them all over here. This portrait of Alexander Skarsgård in his slutty wrestling singlet is the photo of choice, because duhh. But they're all lovely because this is a really lovely looking movie. It's wild that this is Harry Lighton's very first feature film. Good for him! And if you missed the photos of the Pillion cast in person -- which is to say, my person -- that I shared yesterday, see them here

And Now My Pillion Review is Here

Pillion Week continues! First we got the posters, then we got the trailer, then we got Alexander Skarsgard maybe coming out as bi, and now my review! Click on over to read my thoughts on the film, starring Alexander Skarsgard as the dom to Harry Melling's happy sub, at Pajiba right here. This is my first review of several to come out of NYFF 2025 -- first because twas the easiest to write. This is a movie to just fall in love with! Just so lovely...

Quote of the Day

“I found that in this case, it’s not really relevant what my background is. I mean, I do have a kid, but what I’ve done in the past, who I’ve been with, men, women… To me, what was important was that this felt like an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture I hadn’t seen portrayed this way – with so much authenticity... My experience of watching this on screen was through Cruising, where it’s this dark underbelly of New York City and it’s dangerous, murderous and scary. Leather gays are scary. I’m no Ray, but I have a little bit of experience from that world and I know that’s not the truthful depiction."

Everybody's theorizing that Alexander Skarsgård just came out as bi with these comments made at a Q&A after a screening of his gay fetish romance Pillion at the Zurch Film Festival this week (via, thx Mac) and... I'm inclined to agree, although there is I suppose some wiggle room. I honestly 1) don't find this surprising and 2) doubt he cares that much. He's got that European attitide towards sex and sexuality, which is part of why we love him. I suppose he could come back and say he was talking in theory or he was talking about filming his gay sex scenes in True Blood et cetera but I would actually be surprised if he bothered to go and qualify the comments that way after the fact. Anyway go see Pillion! My review is coming later today and spoiler alert you want to see this movie. Shocker!

Tuesday, December 02, 2025

Good Morning, World

I know, I know, it's like Pillion all day every day around here -- and the movie's not even out until February here in the U.S.! But it's out in the U.K. right now so, since we're a global internet, we're also getting inundated with stuff -- not to mention the movie is still gunning for awards attention here Stateside. And is worthy of such! (Here is my review.)

Anyway I really loved this collection of set photos that photographer Chris Harris posted on his Instagram -- see a lot more at this link. And also it actually is a big Pillion Day for me personally because I'm going to go see it again a third time tonight, and be in the room with director Harry Lighton and one Alexander Skarsgård for a second time this very evening! And hopefully Alex won't be recovering from a stomach bug like he was the last time I saw him (see those photos here). Nobody wants to make out when they're not feeling well, after all.

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

 ... you can learn from:

Please Baby Please (2022)

Arthur: Heart in ribs like bird in cage.
When it flutters, set it free.

I have now done quotes from this movie for Harry Melling's birthday three out of the past four years -- see 2023 right here and see 2024 right here (that second one includes lots of Harry on Karl Glusman sexiness and I do recommend) -- not sure what the hell I was doing on March 13th of last year that I missed this ocassion, but I'm making it up to you today, Harry! And then some since I also just realized that even with all the past year's Pillion-ness I hadn't given Harry his own tag here on the site yet -- shame the fuck on me. So that's now fixed. Harry Melling's on the side-bar now -- well earned.

Also I suppose from now on for his birthdays we'll probably try quoting his other "Harry Melling gets gay subjugated by a hot biker" movie, the aforementioned masterpiece Pillion. My #4 movie of 2025! There's lots to celebrate in that movie too. But here today as an additional birthday treat I'll share Harry's recent photo-shoot for Behind The Blinds magazine (via) -- I hadn't shared it yet because it's wasn't nearly slutty enough to my liking; people need to realize that we are hot for Harry and respect and indulge our desires. Anyway it's what we got for now so hit the jump for it...
