Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... coming between these two
faster than a speeding bullet.

Before you ask no, I sadly don't have the full video -- this is Brandon Routh & Tyler Hoechlin in costume as their respective versions of Superman and fooling around on the set of the Crisis on Infinite Earths series that was a part of the CW's so-called Arrowverse in 2019, but all I have are the gifs (via). The gifs give me what I need! I doubt putting any of this into a broader context would help -- it's better to let my own ideas flood in. And speaking of flooded...

Pics of the Day

.
I planned on marking Scott Pilgrim vs the World's 10th anniversary tomorrow, which is when it is, but Edgar Wright's jumped the gun on Twitter and started posting tons of behind-the-scenes pictures from the film so I feel the need to Hook Ya Up -- check his thread right here. Scott Pilgrim was my #3 movie of 2010  (here is my review) and it's kept its ass parked right on up there across the decade since; I did my 5 favorite films of 2010 for my "Siri Says" series in 2016 and it still placed in my Top 5. I'll admit I haven't seen it in a couple of years now but I have a Sex Bob Omb poster on my bedroom wall so I still think of the movie on a semi-daily basis. It fucking rocks. Maybe I will watch it tonight! Anyway keep checking that Twitter thread of Edgar's as he's promising goodies all the way on through tomorrow; I grabbed a few of the pre-production photos that caught my eye so far and put them here after the jump...

Good Morning, World

.
A very happy 39th birthday to Brandon Routh today - I just caught most of Superman Returns on TV the other day and tweeted about how good he was in the role and what a shame it is that he didn't get to play the role again; the film itself is admittedly not perfect (Kate Bosworth is not a great Lois and the big battle is against a rock) but he's great and there are lots of great and interesting scenes and story-beats. Anyway these photos are from his single episode stint on the single-season sex-fest that was Enlisted - I guess him and Chris Lowell had a rivalry? A sexy rivalry. A sexy rivalry with sexy results.

Great Moments In Movie Shelves #146

.
Who remembers that somebody made a movie called Dylan Dog: Dead of Night in 2010? (And does that title belong to be in the Bad Title Hall of Fame alongside Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever or what?) I had forgotten it existed until I saw that yesterday was Superman's 80th birthday and went diving through our Brandon Routh archives and found a photo from this scene in the trailer. I never even saw this movie! But this scene deserves credit for reasons obvious to all of us. Oh Brandon. You should have a bigger career. A career as big as your shoulders, even. Anyway hit the jump for a couple more gifs...

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... as happy as Satya Bhabha
is in these pictures.

Satya in case you couldn't glean is the second dude, the one who's eyes are rolling back into his head, the one in the line-up sandwiched between Jason Schwartzman and Chris Evans. Which is clearly a very, very fine place to be. (Also a fine place to be: where Mae Whitman is standing.) I'd never seen these pictures of the Scott Pilgrim "Evil Exes" before...

... (good god look at the size of Brandon Routh's... everything) and just stumbled upon them now looking for a picture of Chris Evans to attach to the news-story about his getting cast in the leading role in a movie called Jekyll, based on the British TV show from Doctor Who creator Steven Moffat - these pictures are more interesting than that story, though. You're welcome!

I Am Link

.
--- Jason Goes To Heaven - Michael Bay's remake-factory Platinum Dunes decided that this past Friday, aka Friday the 13th, was a good day to update on the next movie they're working on in that series - unfortunately producer Brad Fuller once again proved he's terrible at his job and rambled on about nonsense proving he knows nothing about which he speaks. Listen dude, I get it, you just wanna make money off the cheap property that's always worth a buck. But don't present your opinions as if you're some kind of expert if you clearly can't be bothered. Just shut the fuck up. Goddamn. The series has dealt with Jason's supernatural side a thousand times. You are not a unique butterfly.

--- It Bleeds - Apparently February is "Women In Horror" Month (I almost just said "Every month is Women In Horror Month!" but then I worried you'd think I was making a period joke so I stopped myself) and Flavorwire gathered together a nice little collection of current female horror filmmakers talking about you know, being ladies and making horror movies.

--- The Age of July - I've only skimmed this so far but The New York Review of Books has a loving piece on the career so far of Miranda July up, rummaging through everything she's done entertainment-wise (her two movies, her short story collection, and her just released first novel called The First Bad Man) for themes.I finished TFBM last week and I think July struggles a little bit with length - it sometimes feels like disconnected short-stories about the same group of characters - but there are some really moving passages in the specific strange way of her voice.

--- Super Body Horror - Collider asked David Cronenberg what he thinks about Josh Trank's upcoming Fantastic Four movie being described, by Trank himself, as Cronenbergian body horror, and Cronenberg takes the opportunity to talk about how Dan O'Bannon ripped him off while writing the Alien script, again.

--- Dying Princes - I'm getting so freaked out about the escalation of news about how the next season of A Game of Thrones is totally going to dick over us book readers - first George R.R. Martin was all "Eff you guys, I'm not finishing the next book any time this year," and now GRRM's all, "Yeah you guys need to be prepared for a bunch of folks to die in this season of the show that you aren't expecting. I know there's no point to me stopping watching the show, I'm too soaked in pop culture to remain unspoiled about it until he finishes the damn books, but this is torturous.

--- Big Routh - Everything Brandon Routh has to say in this interview about his role at The Atom on Arrow and having previously played gay on that Partners show is pleasant enough and everything but I feel like I've read so many of these interviews with actors talking about wearing tight superhero costumes and how gay people should totally get married and so on that I guess I just need you to try harder, Brandon Routh. (thanks Mac)

--- She's No Angel - Although I liked Steven Soderbergh's movie Haywire and I found her effectively used, the best performance that Gina Carano's yet given was as "Henry Cavill's girlfriend" and that wasn't very convincing either, so we'll see how she does starring opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool. She's playing a mutant called Angel Dust. I forgot that Deadpool was in an X-Men movie and part of that universe.

--- And Finally, apparently there was a reading of a play called The Dodgers on Broadway last week which starred, amongst others, Billy Magnussen and Finn Wittrock, kaboom. There are some pictures from it over here, including that shot below. (thanks Mac) So how does one get tickets to these things? I need to know when these things are happening!

Good Morning, World

.
Well there goes my plans to spend all Halloween week posting scary scenes in the morning instead of the usual plain ol' beefcake wake-me-up's. Brandon Routh pushed those shorts that low for a reason, and that reason is -- he will not be ignored!

And I have no desire to ignore, so we're on the same page. These are from some show called The Exes (via) - I can't keep up with what shows he's on, it feels like he's been on twenty different ones within the past five years. There was that gay one, and the one where he took his shirt off, and the other one where he took his shirt off, and maybe he was gay again? I don't know. Anyway hit the jump for more of these pictures!

I Am Link

.
--- Lovecraft For Kiddies - When the news broke the other week that Guillermo Del Toro will be making a second Pacific Rim movie my mind flashed back to his adaptation of HP Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness that wasn't meant to be with sadness... and now comes word that it might mean to be after all? Del Toro himself says that he's maybe figured out how to make a PG-13 version of the story that he'd be happy with; the studios are apparently demanding that rating because of how much he wants to spend. So... maybe? Maybe? MAYBE???

--- Up With Clouds - I haven't watched this here first trailer for Olivier Assayas's new movie with Juliette Binoche yet because what part of what I just said do you think implies I need to watch a trailer to know I am already seeing this movie as soon as I can possibly muster? Assayas, Binoche, boom, done. (Although yes if you keep going and get to the part of the cast list where Moretz is we start to hesitate, that's why we're stopping before we get there!)
.
--- Gotta Knack - The first season of Steven Soderbergh's series The Knick, documenting old-timey hospital stuff with Clive Owen, doesn't air until the start of August but Steven's already saying he's hoping he gets to make a second season. (Here's the trailer in case you missed it.) Of course he'll be busy cramming his camera up Channing Tatum's body cavities as DP on the second Magic Mike movie first. But after that. Oh there's also a series of character posters for The Knick right here which are giving me so much facial-hair-lust I don't even know what to do with it all. Look at Michael Angarano's (mmm Michael Angarano) twisty little stache!

--- Witchie Poo - I keep hoping that Tina Fey will make a good movie that's worthy of her comic skills so here, let's hope again - she's making what Deadline calls basically a witch version of Ghostbusters. I really have no idea what that means - I guess they are witches and they build a company selling their services, or maybe they are regular people who hunt witches for money? Commerce plus hexes equals movie, I guess.

--- The Killing - I saw this here first trailer for David Fincher's Gone Girl, his adaptation of Gillian Flynn's popular novel, over the weekend and even though I was being forced to stare at ben Affleck (ugh) I was into it. But not as into it as I am the great batch of teaser images of evidence baggies and their suspicious contains. Those are fab.

--- Business Class - I dug this piece on the admittedly not subtle political meanings of Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer - it's kind of a rundown of all you need to think the movie's thinks it's thinking. I hadn't thought of Tilda's performance as a riff on Margaret Thatcher but now that it's out there I see it's obvious; maybe I'd have seen it quicker if I'd ever watched that Meryl movie and had a quick go-to comparison to summon up.

--- Cap'n Tight Pants - Brandon Routh is playing another superhero! Let me rephrase that - Brandon Routh might be wearing another superhero costume! Ahh that's better, now I care more. He's going to play The Atom aka Ray Palmer on the next season of the series Green Arrow. Cue comments blah career slide from blockbusters to not-the-lead on a CW show blah.

--- And Finally I also saw this featurette slash trailer for the James Brown bio-pic Get On Up starring bio-pic specialist Chadwick Boseman at the movies this weekend, and I have to say I appreciated this bits where Chadwick's wearing that tight gold jumpsuit and dancing around, I did. I might have to see this movie after all!

Superman Joins The Army

.
I didn't realize they were even still airing Enlisted - it got cancelled, but I guess they're running off the episodes they've got left. Which means we got to see Brandon Routh show up without his shirt on, so bless them for letting that make its way into the world. Also...

... that. That's welcome, as well. (Watch the video here.) Even though I never got around to watch this show, and never will it looks like, I am thankful for its existence and for all it gave to the world. (See here and here and here and here for that.) Oh and while I'm on the subject of Brandon Routh...

... I posted a couple similar shots to these yesterday and a little birdy sent me a message with these here bonus ones. Everybody thank the little birdy!

Pic of the Day

.
I'm not sure where this picture came from but we're never gonna feel the need to put too much thought into a new old picture of Brandon Routh in the Superman suit, especially one that gives us a backside view so crystal clear and bright it should come with its own set of shades. I assume it was from a costume fitting? It fits, guys. IT FITS.

Superman The Stripper Cop

.
They are going to make that Magic Mike sequel right? I think we should consider this Brandon Routh's official audition, then. Channing? You there, Channing? It's on.

I Am Link

.
--- Full Attention - I saw the ads for this new show Enlisted (starring Veronica Mars' adorable Chris Lowell) on the subway platform the other day and almost tweeted a picture with some sly entirely predictable comment about guys in uniform yadda blowjobs yadda, but I'm glad I waited because now comes word that Brandon Routh is going to show up on the show as a recurring character, so we can really push the blowjob thing with extra zeal now.

--- Falling Stars - David Cronenberg's new movie Map to the Stars, with the incredible cast of Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche and Julianne Moore and Mia Wasikowska and Olivia Williams, amongst others, got handed an R rating (of course it did) for sex and drugs and nudity and all the good stuff we go to the movies for - the important part here is that the film's done and will be probably be playing fests soon.

--- Beach Butler Bingo - Gerard Butler is circling the Patrick Swayze role in the upcoming remake of Point Break. I know PB is a cult movie for people my age but I was never all that into it, give or take Keanu in a wet-suit - I haven't watched it in many many years though, I really should give it a look again. The most important question is: will they hire Lori Petty to play the same role? I sure hope so.

--- Moving Pictures - This letter that Martin Scorsese wrote "to his daughter" on the state of cinema right now is filled with smart things and everything, but I find the conceit, that he was writing this to his daughter, a little off-putting. If that's true, why has it been released as some sort of press release to the world, handily coinciding with his Oscar campaign? God Wolf of Wall Street has really bittered me towards Marty hasn't it? I hope we can make up.

--- Vamp Cell - The Playlist has the first couple of official pictures from Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming horror show The Strain, based on his series of books, and it looks plenty Contagion-y. Only with Corey Stoll wearing what I assume is a gigantic wig.

--- And Speaking of first pictures from new shows, here are the first couple pictures from the Fargo television series that the Coen Brothers are producing, which stars Martin Freeman. They also have a few details - has Martin Freeman even done an American accent before? And a specific regional one like this'll call for, at that? That makes me nervous.

--- Choke Hold -  I'll believe it when it's released in theaters and not a moment before that (it's too disheartening to get worked up over Mark Romanek making movies regularly) but Mr. Romanek is apparently really close to directing a movie about the Boston Strangler, which will star Casey Affleck. This would be great though!

--- Streep Speaks - I've seen some people blast this speech Meryl Streep made while introducing Emma Thompson the other night for being kind of "me me me" and inappropriate and ill-informed or whatever, but I thought it was darling, so fuck you people. Speaking Meryl, I love this post of her taking selfies that Glenn gathered up at The Film Experience. You guys know we won't have Meryl forever right? You will miss her when she's gone.

--- Dress Barn - I'm getting excited about the Golden Globes, you guys! All it took was this interview with Tina Fey and an especially smart-assy Amy Poehler to get me juiced. Also helping was Jose running through the last year's best red carpet looks over at The Film Experience - I hadn't seen that dress that Adéle Exarchopoulos (will somebody please school me on how you pronounce her last name? Is it just Ex-Arch-op-oh-liss?) wore at Cannes, and it's to die for.

I Am Link

.
--- Reading Rainbow - A new sexy poster for Lars Von Trier's Nymphomanic is online, and god help me I actually think it is indeed kind of sexy. I do love a naked man wearing glasses, even if it's Shia. And books! Books are sexy, there's just no ifs ands or big butts about it.

--- Picture This - In his wonderful yearly tradition R. Kurt Osenlund named his favorite 20 shots from 20 different movies this year over at Slate. I always love this piece. Some real unexpected picks this time around, from several movies I still haven't seen. I've got a long way to go before I'll feel anywhere near complete on 2013, y'all.

--- Hot Lizard - Mark your calendars, the trailer for Godzilla reboot, starring Aaron Johnson and Bryan Cranston and oh yeah a giant lizard that shoots lasers out of its mouth, that trailer will be online tomorrow morningish. I just watched Kick Ass 2 last night and I am ready to stare at Aaron more, please.

--- Crossing Guard - Jake Gyllenhaal's bestie Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve is looking at making something called Sicario next, which is about a female cop who heads cross the Mexican border looking for a drug lord, and all hell breaks loose, as is wont to happen when you're in a movie and you cross the border into Mexico. Most interesting part of the story - Thad Luckinbill, one-time actor who got naked on Nip/Tuck (seen to the right there), is a producer now?

--- Ghost Pop - In the continuing FYC series over at The Film Experience, where we're championing the efforts of 2013 movie-makers in different categories that will probably go unloved come Oscar nomination morning, Tim Brayton hit up the sound design in James Wan's The Conjuring for honors yesterday. Funny enough I rewatched that exact film the day before (the boyfriend hadn't seen it yet) and I still think it's a mess (here's my way back review) but I don't disagree on the sound design, which is mostly pretty great. There's this low hum to the film that I only noticed when Wan & Co would drop the sound out altogether, as if insects had stopped buzzing because a predator was approaching - it hits that deeply buried place inside your gut. That said I still hate the ghost whispering, though.

--- Clark Junior - Looking much more fresh faced if slightly less fur-tastic, DH has got a picture of Henry Cavill trying out for Superman back in 2004, when he ultimately lost the role to Brandon Routh. This would've been for Brett Ratner or JJ Abrams; Bryan Singer was the one who brought on Routh.

--- Southern Discomfort - Finally some release info for Ti West's next movie - The Sacrament (which follows a dude and his friends trying to get his sister out of a South American cult, with presumably bad results) is getting released onto VOD on May 5th, and then theaters in June.

--- And finally, hey hey hey it's the first real trailer for the third season of Sherlock you guys! Yeah this has been online all weekend so those of you who wanted to see it have already seen it, whatever, I'm just getting to it.

Do Dump or Marry - 3 Chosen 1s

.
Have you guys heard of this series called Chosen? Or rather, excuse me, Ch:os:en...? Punctuation at red alert! Anyway it's an exclusive to Crackle, which I totally downloaded on my iPad one time but have never opened before. It's like a free movie streaming service, right? Anyway that's not why we're here - we're here because Chosen (I am not typing that godforsaken punctuation again) apparently stars Milo Ventimiglia, Brandon Routh and Chad Michael Murray. And in related news, Chad Michael Murray apparently still exists. Wait wait step back, he has a beard now, I have to set aside my snark. Beards kill snark dontcha know.
.

.
Anyway part two I actually saw that there trailer for the new season of the show (yes, there's already been one season, I guess) the other day but it didn't have any of the guys making out so I forgot about it, until just now, seeing that picture of them together. And it's been awhile since we've done a Do Dump or Marry, so let's!

Alright judge all you want but that homeless "suck your dick for a large order of french fries" look on CMM is totally working for me. I smell romance! Romance, and patchouli. Alright so you know the drill, hit the comments, which would you do, which would you dump, and which would you marry?

Good Morning, World

.
I'd like to take this opportunity to formally apologize to Dave Annable for not watching 666 Park Avenue and therefore personally insuring its cancellation and his momentary unemployment - I watched about five minutes of it and I immediately slipped into a coma, and by the time I was awakened it was too late to save you. My apologies.

Same goes for you, Scott Speedman!
Last Resort was an apt title, though.

Oh and Partners! I never knew thee.
Because you kept Brandon Routh clothed the whole time.

Krypton's Codpiece

We spent a lot of time analyzing and critiquing the package of Brandon Routh's super costume, so it's only fair - yup, this is about being fair, totally - to amp up the cock rhetoric with what Henry Cavill will be donning for Zack Snyder's upcoming movie. Coming Soon got some pics of the costume on its lonesome at a licensing expo and holy stuffing, Supes! (click to embiggen)

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... taking in the view with Brandon Routh.

(pics via) If I'd thought that Brandon would be getting his clothes off enough I wouldn't have stopped paying attention to this lacrosse movie of his even though it looks terrible otherwise, but they really weren't selling me on the "getting his clothes off enough" part. That new shot up top though... that's for sure enough to get me to at least rent it.

This Movie Looks Bad...

.

... and by "bad" I mean "abysmally epically awful," but suffering through the trailer for Broken Arrows (a new lacrosse movie starring Brandon Routh) did give us the above shirtless shot, so it has one point in the plus column at least. Versus seventeen hundred in the minus, oh damn, math wins again. Sorry, Brandon!

RIP Red Super Panties

.

Okay okay so that he's not got the red underpants over his suit is what everybody's noticing, but what I think what people are missing in these set-photos with the first full look (albeit grainy and distant) at Henry Cavill's entire Superman costume is the fact that he appears to be battling Tron Guy? That's gotta be a scoop.

Kidding aside, let us observe a moment  of silence
to mourn the red underpants. You were loved!
