The Boys in the Bland

Much like Jake Gyllenhaal & Henry Cavill seen there on the set of Guy Ritchie's forthcoming In the Grey my instrument sometimes requires rest too -- honestly, based off nothing but the trailers and the fact that this movie is not being screened for critics, I'm still not convinced my big furry boys were working themselves ragged even when the film camera was turned on and pointed at them. But the comparison stands -- as mentioned this morning I'm taking a week off to visit family slash friends upstate and so this post is it until next Wednesday. And hopefully this wee break will refresh my enviable prose and dashing wit a bit while I'm at it. Or, you know, perhaps I will find either of those things for the first time in my life. Anything's possible! Have a nice seven days and no I don't at all mean that in a "The Ring" curse sort of way, I promise. Bye!

Pics of the Day

Guy Ritchie's upcoming comic-action movie In the Grey -- which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill, why else do you think we're here? -- is out in two weeks. And you should probably prepare yourselves for no early reviews because they ain't pre-screening it for critics. Believe me. I tried. That's always a good sign! Anyway this movie's probably review-proof because of assholes like me who will see this movie either way since, as I said two sentences ago -- it stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill and why else do you think we're here? Henry Cavill in those pants seen above, even more importantly. (thx Mac) Here's the movie's trailer in case you missed it. Can it really be that bad? Honestly I think they just don't give a shit about critics. And they're probably right. Womp womp for us then! But can somebody rescue Jake please? Our man needs a career intervention. Get him back in the hands of a David Fincher.

Is Calling This 'In The Gay' Too Obvious?

I'm old enough to remember there being an internet rumor like twenty years ago that Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill were boyfriends for a minute -- that said I'm also old enough to have forgotten any and all context for said rumor. But I definitely remember thinking, "Oh my god that's hot" and at least that much has stuck with me all these decades. Anyway I hadn't thought of that rumor in ages, not until the two were cast opposite one another in Guy Ritchie's new movie called In the Grey, and there they are -- the theoretical exes -- in all their glory. Also...

... leave it to Ritchie to introduce their characters in the just-dropped trailer as prison bunkmates. Any dirty fantasies I'm having about the casting in one of his movies, Guy's gonna get there first. Anyway in general I've never been a Ritchie fan but since I loved his Netflix series The Gentlemen and I liked his last two movies The Covenant (which starred Jake) and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (with Henry) well enough, we're on good terms right now. Better than usual. Add on a cast that also includes Rosamund Pike (!!!) and I definitely have higher expectations than I ought to for this. We'll see.

In the Grey is out on May 15th. And in summation,
here is a gif of Henry Cavill sitting in tight pants:

Such Ungentlemanly Monkeys!

Two perfectly entertaining action movies starring way more than two perfectly hot men are hitting blu-ray today -- there is Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which stocks the majority of the hot men (what's new when it comes to Guy Ritchie) and there's Monkey Man, which was written and directed by and stars one Dev Patel, who is as seen above a factory of hotness unto himself within it. I don't think I properly reviewed either of these movies at length when they came out, but they're both good times worth watching and not just to stare at the hunks. But since we're here! Let's make a dumb poll out of staring at the hunks.

How Ungentlemanly of Me

Guy Ritchie's testosterone caper The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is out in theaters today -- watch the trailer here if you missed it. Starring Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson and Henry Golding and Alex Pettyfer and Hero Fiennes Tiffin plus that lady from Ambulance the movie is basically just a beefed-up (literally -- I mean look at Alan Ritchson there) version of every men-on-a-mission war movie that Hollywood's been churning out since the 1950s at least. I suppose there are earlier examples than that but they really seemed to come into their own in the '50s, when we decided we really needed to solidify our post-WWII savoir complex. Anyway this one isn't American propoganda, given the British director and international cast -- it's sort of Winston Churchill Propoganda but really it's not anybody propoganda. It's just a goof. And as such it's fine enough, although I really think when people have been calling it "Guy Ritchie's Inglourious Basterds" they've been underselling just how thoroughly this movie is xeroxing Tarantino at times, beat for beat and character for character. Basterds actor Til Schweiger has to play the Chistoph-Waltz-ish colorful Nazi this time instead of playing the over-indulgent Nazi killer that he did previously -- it's Ritchson now who plays that part. The lady from Ambulance puts on a shiny dress for the last act a la Diane Kruger, all for the big party slash showdown. It's remixed enough to be different enough but Tarantino should still probably toss a pie at Ritchie the next time they're in the same room. Anyway yesterday I posted some photos from the movie's premiere where I also mentioned that I got violently sick from food poisoning in the middle of watching this movie so you should obviously take my opinion with a great big grain of salt! I was clearly somewhat distracted! It's a fun enough slab of muscular entertainment. Just the way Henry Cavill likes it.

Pics of the Day

If I hadn't gotten sick on Monday (as detailed in too-fine-of-detail this morning here) this would've been a much bigger deal around here -- as seen above I went to the world premiere of Guy Ritchie's new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare that night here in NYC and took some photos of the cast (plus some producer dude named Jerry Bruckheimer), including the beautiful Henrys Cavill and Golding (and Zaga for that matter). All of those can be seen above on my Insta. Unfortunately the experience was ruined by the food poisoning that consumed every cell of my body mid-movie, so looking at these photos now makes me feel queasy again -- not really the Pavlovian response I want to have when looking at the Henrys; I am hoping it passes with time. Maybe more on the movie later? I don't know. I'm barely keeping myself afloat today.

Jake & Hank Coming Together

In the original version of the Road House photo above Jake's love interest (played by Daniela Melchior) is on his left side (see it here), but some enterprising soul on the internet went and photoshopped her out (no it wasn't me) and yes, I will totally share that. I am not above sharing that. I am not above much to be honest, but definitely nothing having to do with Jake. Anyway I needed a Jake photo because we have Jake News (insert beeping breaking news sound effect here) today! His movie with Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill...

... that I told you about very nearly an entire year ago has a title and it has a release date. The title is In the Grey, and the release date isn't until January 17th 2025. SIGH so far away. Here is how it is being described:

"It's set to follow a group who operates in the middle of criminality and the law with Cavill, Gyllenhaal, and González joining forces in the search for billions of dollars in stolen cash."

So a crime caper, right in Ritchie's wheelhouse then. (And I remain on a weird-for-me Ritchie high right now thanks to his show The Gentleman kicking ass and thanks to Henry Golding acting real gay on the PR beat for Ritchie's upcoming movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.) In the Grey (that "e" is gonna bug me for a full year, sigh) also stars Eiza González (who Jake starred opposite in Michael Bay's Ambulance) and our great Saltburn overlord Rosamund Pike. In summation:

The Promised Spy

The curse of the January-February doldrums continues with Matthew Vaughn's unremittingly bleak new "entertainment" Argylle out in theaters today -- click here to read my thoughts on this D.O.A. P.O.S. that stars Bryce Dallas Howard as a spy novelist, Henry Cavill as the spy she dreamed up, and Sam Rockwell as the real spy who blah blah blah who even cares. The movie can't even be bothered to make Henry look good so I'm not going to further waste my life on it. You'll be far better off seeing the new Mads Mikkelsen movie The Promised Land if it's out in your place -- that one's terrific. Here is the trailer for that:

Henry From Start To Finish

We're bookending the day with Henry Cavill -- picture it, twin Henrys and you're in the middle of that sandwich! -- because the first thing we saw this morning was the trailer for his new Guy Ritchie movie and the last thing we're seeing tonight will be a press screening of Argylle, the former Superman's spy comedy from Layer Cake and Kick-ass director Matthew Vaughn. That said obviously I'm not leading with a photo of Henry in Argylle because that ahircut he's rocking in it is too dumb for words. So enjoy the above much more flattering photo of Henry. And by "flattering" obviously I mean "fuckable until our bodies disintegrate" of course. Of course! More on me on Argylle later this week -- if you haven't watched the trailer, uhhh, here it is:

Go On 'n Goon Out, Henry Cavill

As twas foretold by yesterday's post of Henry Cavill pictures, the trailer for Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare starring Henry Cavill, Alex Pettyfer, Alan Ritchson, Eiza Gonzalez, and Henry Golding has indeed arrived this morning -- it feels like a Kingsman movie meets Inglourious Basterds (right down to the presence Til Schweiger) but I don't really mean that to dismiss it; I actually think it looks fun? Dumb but fun and if Guy Ritchie can perfect "dumb but fun" he'll be doing better than he normlaly does.

Ungentlemanly is out on April 19th.

Swash Me Buckle, Henry Cavill

While we've already gawped at Henry Cavill's lotta-look on the set of Guy Ritchie's upcoming movie The Ministtry of Ungentlemanly Warfare it's good to have an update via the man himself -- Henry shared these two official photos of him in character on his Insta today, along with the info that a trailer will appear tommorow. I was surprised when I checked -- it's out on April 19th! That's not too far away now. This movie is a veritable who's-who of beefcakery, also starring Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding, Til Schweiger, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, plus Dunkirk twink Freddie Fox is apparently playing James Bond author Ian Fleming? I have no idea what nonsense to expect from this thing but biceps will be served.

Pics of the Day

I was just wondering the other day when we would see Superman-to-be David Corenswet next and what he might looks like, and these pics snapped of him by a pap (via, thx Mac) in California yesterday have answered that with a resounding "Henry Cavill." The beard, the beefy ass -- it's uncanny! In all seriousness this will probably just end up being his "actors are on a strike right now" look, but he's definitely been hitting the squats hard.

We Won the Supes Lottery

Three and a half years ago I wrote a post wondering if The Politician actor David Corenswet should be cast as our next Superman -- well it only took (checks watch) three and a half years but they finally listened to me! Since that series Corenswet went on to also star in Ryan Murphy's show Hollywood, as well as our beloved Pearl from Ti West, and more recently he got cast in the sexy-crazy cast of the Twister sequel Twisters. But today Deadline reports that Superman is finally his -- and he will co-star opposite Mrs. Maisel herself Rachel Brosnahan as his Lois Lane. James Gunn is directing, and the film's title for the record is Superman: Legacy. You can see a lot and I mean a lot more of David Corenswet in our archives. We are fans!

We also know that the villain is going to be Lex Luthor again (sigh) but that casting hasn't been announced yet -- yesterday there was reporting that both Alexander and Bill Skarsgård are up for the role. Out of those two, as much as I love Alex I say go with Bill but to be honest I'm not sold on either of them? I honestly think...

OK You're Forgiven For Everything, Guy Ritchie

Guy Ritchie is selling a movie at Cannes that will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill. Do I even need to say more? This post could just be that sentence -- with the above finely photo-shopped image via yours truly, of course -- written in three-thousand-point type, and that would be plenty. JAKE AND HANK, TOGETHER AT LAST. Will they rub their chest hair together to start a fire to keep themselves warm? Listen Guy Ritchie, I am willing to be a scab and break the Writer's Strike if you let me write that scene. I don't think anybody would hold that concession against me.

Okay the actual news -- the movie doesn't have a title but Jake & Hank (and yes I will be using that name for them throughout this entire process, from now until the movie hits blu-ray, so prepare yourselves) will be playing "two extraction specialists who must plan an escape path for a high-level female negotiator (played by Jake's Ambulance co-star Eiza González). Jake & Hank have of course worked with Ritchie previously -- The Covenant just came out a couple of weeks ago (here is my review) and Henry is currently working on his, what, third movie with Ritchie? That's the one where he looks like this:

See more over here. Anyway! Needless to say! This excites us. This news excites us in places that haven't been excited in decades. Expect some coverage! Oh and PS -- a happy 40th birthday to Mr. Cavill today!

Who Wore it Best?

When Henry Cavill first grew his legendary Mission Impossible stache there was a lot of "Holy Tom of Finland drawing!" grunting, but leave it to director Guy Ritchie to take homoerotic fetishism to the next level and legitimately costume Cavill like a Tom of Finland character for his next movie, the WWII-set The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which I talked about previously right here. Photos from the set (also featuring Henry Golding and Alex Pettyfer) popped up today (see more here) that have Henry fully decked out and, as per usual with this particular brand of fetishism, it's conflicting! But still I must ask! (Thx to Fiona for the suggestion!)

Pic of the Day

(click to embiggen) Guy Ritchie has been very busy, and by "busy" I mean he has been rounding up all of the hot dudes I post about all the time and stuffing them into about half a dozen movies that he's working on all at once. That's really the only explanation for how we've gotten to the point of filming this one and checking my archives I realize I never posted about it before today. "This one" is called The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and it stars (deep breath) Henry Cavill, Alex Pettyfer (somebody hired him!), Alan Ritchson, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, and last but hardly hardly least Henry Golding. And despite how old-timey this photo that Henry Cavill posted looks this movie is set during World War II and is about some rogue soldiers getting gathered up to (what else) fight dem Nazis. I guess it could be less a daguerreotype like I thought it was at first and more like those famous faded photos of sexy WWII sailors like the ones gathered in this book (a personal fave). ETA here are two more photos after the jump...

Good Morning, World

Happy 40 to Charlie Cox today! Check out our extensive Cox-Archives at this link -- we've been following his career since well before his Daredevil days and count ourselves among his most stalwart of fans. On that note I do wish he'd get more gigs than the MCU one but I'm not angry that he won the role back after dark days -- he makes the perfect Matt Murdock and I hope they make good use of him. If I had to choose I'd take his Daredevil over Henry Cavill's Superman any day (and it looks like the Universe agreed...)

Good Morning, Friday

That expression on Henry Cavill's face just about sums it up, right? He's just making the "Ooh I squatted too much" grimace of work-out brah -- I'm over here making that grimace because of the state of the world. If only we could bring our grimaces together and make something beautiful! Alas. Cursed to grimace alone for eternity. Anyway hi everybody! I don't usually post on Fridays in the summertime since I've got Summer Fridays -- no I am not rubbing it in, don't you grimace at me -- but I wanted to share that photo for one, which is a new old photo (it hasn't been seen before but it was taken during the filming of Justice League), and for two I wanted to remind everybody no, I don't post today! It's a weird way to say I am not posting today -- by posting -- I will admit. But I do things my way! Oh and I will probably post later today at least once. I have some other things to share. Hey I said "my way" dammit.

Henry Cavill Five Times

Henry Cavill is on the cover of GQ Spain this month apparently, and these are the photos! Or some of the photos anyway -- I don't have a proper link yet so maybe there will be more once that happens. (These came via Instagram.) I will obviously update the post if the post needs an update. He's looking good though, right? Seems to be a little less on the bulky side right now -- I mean I love the Superman muscles, lord knows I do, but you save that for special occasions. Hit the jump to see the rest...
