Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

True History of the Kelly Gang (2019)

Sgt O'Neil: Reminds me of a dog that I once had. It was a mangy old thing. And I am a cruel bastard, so I would whip it every which way. I'd beat on him just for looking at me. So, I figure if you hate on something for long enough, well, he just comes to love you anyway, just for those few moments when you don't.

You might think that quote is a weird one for me to choose as a "life lesson" to celebrate Charlie Hunnam's 46th birthday today with, to which I tell you -- we're talking about Charlie Hunnam. And Charlie could treat mt like a dog and whip me every day and I would love him anyway. I watched his King Arthur movie ffs. This stopped being a hypothetical long ago. Happy birthday, Charlie!

Good Morning, Hunnam

I was going to say that I really wasn't sure why Netflix's in-house magazine Tudum was doing a feature on Charlie Hunnam here in March of 2026 when the show they're talking about (his Ed Gein series) is six months old now -- but then I realized this is probably an Emmy thing, right? I pay zero point zero percent attention to the Emmys so I have even less awareness of their schedule than I do the Oscars but I do believe Charlie still has the opportunity to be nominated for that series for the Emmys. Right? Whatever. It gave us this new photoshoot of my beloved Queer boy and...

...  I'll never stamp a "no" on that. And he deserves all the praise because he's giving a great damned performance as Ed Gein -- I know a lot of people found the show to be more tasteless true-crime exploitation from Ryan Murphy but I am not one of those people. I think it's the best work Charlie's done and I hope he gets that Emmy nomination, whenever the hell those happen, and I can see him looking pretty on that red carpet whenever the hell that is. But for right now we'll just see him looking pretty (photographed by our fave Carter Smith!) after the jump...

Good Morning, Gratuitous Charlie Hunnam

My crush on Charlie Hunnam is the longest one I've got going -- twenty-six years running! Since the original Queer as Folk, of course. (Oh how it's burned into my brain.) Just wander through our Charlie Archives if you don't believe me -- some of those Sons of Anarchy posts will probably stop you dead in your tracks, but you'll eventually make it back I think. Anyway said crush shows no signs of slowing -- especially not with the wealth of Charlie content we're getting happily stuffed down our throats in the wake of his Ed Gein series and its success. When I shared that big GQ shoot a week ago little did I know there would be two more great big hot and heavy hitters landing shortly. He did both Interview Magazine (here) and he did Man About Town magazine (here) this week, and hey whaddya know I have both of them for us this morning. Along with some sweet behind the scenes content like these gif of Charlie soaking wet in his underwear because good grief we're living. Hit the jump for dozens and dozens of our Charlie boy...

Charlie Hunnam Seven Times

Feeling extremely blessed this morning by Charlie Hunnam's new photoshoot for GQ -- haven't been able to read the interview yet but here's the link! It's been slow-going since I'm so busy with film festivals right now but I did manage to finish the third episode of his Ed Gein series last night and I am digging the hell out of it -- I know Ryan Murphy shows have a tendency to blow their loads quick though so I won't say anything proper until I'm done. But three episodes in I am a big fan. (I've posted a lot about it on Bluesky.) Anyway for now we'll just enjoy these sexy sexy photos after the jump...

Charlie Hunnam Six Times

When I posted the trailer for the sexy serial killer program starring Naked Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein I got accused in the comments of running "a porn site" for trotting alongside Ryan Murphy by participating in the objectification of real world horrors... which, okay. Ain't nobody got time for placating some stranger's moral lines in the sand today. I see a hot Charlie Hunnam, I post a hot Charlie Hunnam. This show is just clearly going to be very silly nonsense and I don't think it's worth getting that worked up over. To paraphrase one of the models in an early season of America's Next Top Model, in other people's countries there are war. On that note this new shoot for Variety has me feeling fine! Not in the least morally questionable, but perhaps a little porographic down below, ahem. Hit the jump for the rest of them...

Good Morning, World

Okay the "good" portion of this post officially ends immediately following that gif of Charlie Hunnam naked (in a pose we've seen and loved from him before!) because this gif is taken from the trailer for Ryan Murphy's forthcoming series Monster: The Ed Gein Story, which is... well when I say "not good" I mean evil and disgusting and so forth; so many skin suits, and not just Charlie's beautiful naked one! Because the trailer actually made me more excited for the series -- fone one I had no idea Laurie Metcalf was playing "Mother" and YES. A billion times yes. Charlie Hunnam was already several yesses but this takes it stratospheric. Let your breakfast settle first, and then watch:

This premieres on Netflix on October 3rd. I am so there.
And here is one more Naked Charlie Hunnam gif to see us out:

My Bed's On Fire, I'm a Real Live Wire

The first posters for Ryan Murphy's Monster: The Ed Gein Story (dropping October 3rd) starring Charlie Hunnam as the original real-life inspiration for Norman Bates and Leatherface have arrived and sure enough -- we're getting Sexy Ed Gein. It's like that joke about there being a "Slutty [fill in the blank]" Halloween costume for college girls looking to sexify up everything under the sun -- a Slutty Hamburglar, a Slutty Office Stapler. Ryan Murphy will make us feel uncomfortably horned up for every maniac who ever lived. And so two years after Evan Peters gave us funny feelings about Jeffrey Dahmer, here's Ed Gein's slutty little biceps. And listen... I'm just gonna quit while I'm ahead. Meaning before I have said anything incriminating. I am not about to get canceled today. Bye!

Charlie Turns Criminal

It's weird when I realize I have been crushing on Charlie Hunnam for my entire adult life -- he's definitely my longest-running crush, beating Jake Gyllenhaal by several years thanks to Queer as Folk. (If Jared Leto hadn't turned out to be so awful he'd hold the title thanks to My So-Called Life -- alas for him.) Anyway that's got nothing to do with anything, I just like to personalize your news with my nonsense in case you hadn't noticed that yet! Just think -- one day all of the internet will be written by A.I. and you'll miss my gibberish rambling then! Okay, back to that news -- Charlie has signed on to star in Criminal, a new Prime Video series that's adapting the graphic novels by Ed Brubaker. Anybody read 'em? I have not but they sound just like the roughneck stuff Charlie so loves in his adult career:

"Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Hunnam stars as the protagonist, Leo, a brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless."

"Teeg Lawless"? Really? Okay. Brubaker himself is writing and producing the series, while Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are directing the first four episodes. Already an announced part of the cast -- Richard Jenkins, and we love him; I imagine he'll play Charlie's father? Anyway let's hope this series at least has the common sense to get Charlie's prime ass out as much as Sons of Anarchy did, which was good recompense for all the macho posturing. Ahh memories...

Jack's What's For Dinner

The cast for Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later film -- the third in the 28 Days Later not-zombie universe and supposedly the start of an entirely new trilogy -- has just gotten a wee-laddy hotter with Jack O'Connell joining the already scorching cast. That means dude-wise we're going to be staring at Jack, Charlie Hunnam, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and (supposedly) Cillian Murphy -- and we're supposed to be rooting against the not-zombies? because I am finding their desire to bite into this cast tremendously relatable!

I Quit Smoking 16 Years Ago Today

Well, here we are. My nicotine cessation can officially drive a car in the United States now. Today marks sixteen years since I touched a dirty filthy cigarette and sixteen years of me doing these posts of famous men looking hot as shit while smoking dirty filthy cigarettes. I regret nothing! I admit remain surprised that I can continue to find enough photos to fill up these posts, but I hear smoking has become cool with the kids again? I don't recommend it obviously, but I also can't lie...

... sexy motherfuckers be looking sexy while doing it. And listen, nobody should be looking to me for moral guidance. I'm just a fucked up girl who's lookin' for my own peace of mind -- don't assign me yours! Oh wait that's Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine. The point remains! Don't smoke! Unless you're sexy! Then do whatever the hell you want to. Hit the jump for a pile of photos and gifs...

Who Wants To Take A Bite Outta Aaron?

I didn't have a new photo of Aaron Taylor-Johnson to share so I figured it'd be nice to stare at this legendary snap from his 2015 Flaunt magazine photoshoot -- it's been awhile! It's always a treat! As is casting news when Aaron is involved. And no it's not James Bond. Yet. But it's even more exciting if you ask me -- he's been cast in Danny Boyle's upcoming zombie sequel 28 Years Later! Okay okay yes we all know, nerd -- they're not technically zombies. Also it's more than just a sequel -- it's an entire new trilogy of movies, apparently. But Boyle is (as of right now) only attached to the first one. Candyman director Nia DaCosta is supposed to do the second one; no word on the capper yet. Anyway Aaron is not the only person cast -- we already know that Cillian Murphy is returning to the role he played in Boyle's first film, and I told you two weeks back that Charlie Hunnam is also set to be in it.

Aaron and Charlie in a movie together again! I very well might start foaming at the mouth. You may recall (as pictured above) they co-starred in Aaron's wife's adaptation of A Million Little Pieces. Or not. The only thing most people remember from that movie was Aaron swinging his great big dick around a bunch and I can't say that I blame them. Wait what was I talking about? oh right the zombie not-zombie thing. Also cast today besides Aaron was Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes -- and I know if you're Danny Boyle you can pretty much get whoever the hell you want for a movie nowadays, especially a sequel to one of his greatest. But this cast is really something isn't it? Cheers to Danny.

Quote of the Day

"I just kind of waited for someone to stop me. And I could defend it vigorously. It wasn't there to be salacious. People talk to me about “shock value,” and actually shock value is just as much a danger of people turning off as it is turning on. I powerfully believed in that rimming scene, because I needed a sexual experience that Nathan had never even imagined. There wasn’t as much porn. Nathan wouldn’t have had access to all that stuff. Even in porn magazines, you didn’t see rimming, particularly. It wasn’t as easily photographed, I suppose. I wonder what boys imagine now, now they know what goes on. Maybe you imagine fucking. But to imagine rimming? And to get a sexual thrill out of rimming? I don’t think then, at 15, that even existed in his head. So that was the point. That night with Stuart is a mind fuck. Not just a fuck. A mind fuck. He experiences something he never even knew existed. And that’s a metaphor for his whole gay experience. I genuinely believe to this day that it was important."

British GQ dropped an "Oral History" of the original Queer as Folk over the weekend -- which just turned 25 a couple of weeks ago, good grief -- and the above quote is from creator Russell T. Davies, talking about the first episode's infamous (slash legendary) "rimming scene" between Aidan Gillen and Charlie Hunnam. Oral History indeed! In all seriousness that scene was when the show got its hooks in me, and for the exact reasons Davies explicates -- I mean yes obviously we all liked watching that happen to Charlie Hunnam. (Also there are other quotes in the piece that seem to finally make it clear for once that yes, that is indeed both Aidan & Charlie in the scene, and nobody's body doubles. Huzzah!) But I saw my own experience being reflected on a screen in that show in a way I never had before. When I was 18 and having sex with my slightly older boyfriend for the first time(s) I had no idea what to do -- I hadn't had any access to gay porn in the mid-90s. I was fucking clueless. I didn't know what two men would do together; I just knew that I wanted it to happen whatever it was. So Charlie's shock and delight in that moment... let's just say I felt real seen.

28 Hunnams Later

I don't know how reliable this source is (I've never heard of them before) but since it allows me the opportunity to share a photo of Charlie Hunnam I don't care -- take it with a grain of salt until some place more legit reports it but there are rumors (via, thx Mac) that our boy Charlie is in talks to co-star in Danny Boyle's forthcoming 28 Days Later trilogy-capper 28 Years Later. Also in talks (supposedly) -- Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer. They would join the already confirmed Cillian Murphy, who is returning to the zombie franchise after not being a part of the second (and itself terrific) movie. I'm down with all of these names so let's hope this holds up. I'm surprised that Charlie's never been in a Danny Boyle movie before this honestly -- he seems a natural fit. It's easy to picture him having been in Sunshine or popping up in the Trainspotting sequel.

Quote of the Day

I don't know how I've never seen this old photo of Russell Tovey before, but I am now living for this picture and this picture alone. Amazing. Anyway our favorite pair of ears gave a new interview to W Magazine this week that's about his new art documentary but they get into his gay awakenings and it made me realize me and Russ are pretty close in age because we had basically the exact same ones!

"I saw a movie called Beautiful Thing when I was 15. I was living at home with my parents and it was on Channel 4. It was about two young lads on a housing estate who fell in love. I was watching it, my mom was upstairs and told me to go to bed, and I turned the TV off. She went to bed and I put it back on mute and I was like, “That's me. That's who I am.” It made such a difference.

Then when Queer as Folk came on in the UK, it terrified me. I remember the first episode, there was a rimming scene. I was like, “What the fuck is going on?” I had no idea what that was. It was terrifying, but so “wow!” The show felt like a light shining. I'm going to look at that light. I'm going to head towards there because that seems like a safe ground and it's going to explain all the things that are going on in me."

Pics of the Day

That there is our first look at Charlie Hunnam in Zack Snyder's upcoming Netflix movie Rebel Moon, via Vanity Fair who have a big piece on it today -- below you'll see Chuck alongside his co-stars Michiel Huisman and Sofia Boutella. Apparently this started off as a Star Wars spin-off but became its own thing and... uhh yeah, we can tell. Anyway Rebel Moon comes out right before Christmas and I'd like for it to be good, since Charlie (and us fans of Charlie) could really use something good on his resume right about now!

Who Wore It Best?

Noted besties Charlie Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund are for some reason rocking the exact same rock-star style these days -- shoulder-length hair and beards -- and there's something very "Brad Pitt with a new girlfriend" about it. Like they're morphing into each other. I want to pretend that this is their way of telling us that they're more than "noted besties" but such things I'll leave, ahem, subtly implied. For now let's just make them compete with each other:

Pic of the Day

The first official photo of Charlie Hunnam in the forthcoming limited Apple+ series Shantaram has been unveiled via EW (thx Mac), and I was a little surprised in their entire write-up EW never mentioned director Justin Kurzel, who worked with Charlie on True History of the Kelly Gang previously and who I'd for some reason convinced myself to be the creative force behind this show. Wishful thinking, turns out! Kurzel did direct a single episode out of the seven episodes total, but otherwise the show -- an adaptation of Gregory David Roberts's semi-autobiographical book about a former heroin addict falling in love in Bombay in the 1980s -- is coming from The Punisher producer Steve Lightfoot and a bunch of people I'm not familiar with. Well I hope it's good -- we do love our Charlie here at MNPP. See all our previous posts on the series here -- Shantaram premieres on Apple on October 14th.

Which is Hotter?

Today we wish a happy 48th birthday to the great Aussie director Justin Kurzel, who's batting a nearly perfect score from where I stand. I say "nearly" because his big foray into Hollywood, his Assassin's Creed adaptation, didn't work at all, save valiant efforts by all involved. But look at the other movies under his belt from the past eleven years -- Snowtown! Macbeth! True History of the Kelly Gang! Nitram! (I still haven't seen his segment in the anthology film The Turning.)

Those are all terrific movies with a strong directorial voice and vision -- he has already fulfilled the promise of when Snowtown knocked me out in 2011 and then some extra left over. There sure aren't many male directors doing a better job dissecting toxic masculinity in our current moment...

... and that he does it, at least partially anyway, by shooting all of his leading men like I would shoot all of the hot leading men that he keeps hiring? And then even more, you add on the fact that he is married to the queen Essie Davis? We got ourselves a king here!

He's also got a pile of killer projects on the immediate horizon lined up -- his sci-fi flick Morning with Benedict Cumberbatch and Laura Dern! (That one is already filmed.) His limited series Shantaram with Charlie Hunnam! (I believe that's also been filmed, at least partially.) And then there's Ruin, his WWII flick with Margot Robbie and Matthias Schoenaerts -- there hasn't been an update on this one in awhile so it might not be happening, but let's will it to be! Justin Kurzel filming Matthias is a thing I definitely need in this life. Anyway in Kurzel's honor -- and to fill a distinct lack of Michael Fassbender posting recently -- let's do ourselves a poll...

Noah Jupe is in Morning

Honey Boy and A Quiet Place actor Noah Jupe, who appears to be growing up, has just joined the cast of Macbeth and Snowtown director Justin Kurzel's next science-fiction movie called Morning, and it's one hell of a cast he's joining -- Laura Dern and Benedict Cumberbatch, namely. Here's the plot via Deadline:

"The film is set in a near future where society has a pill that does away with the need to sleep. With the added help of an artificial sun, there is no end to morning daylight, living and work. However, as a young generation grows up deprived of the world of sleep, they consider rebelling to reclaim their dreams."

Kurzel's last released film was True History of the Kelly Gang, which we gave a lot of play around these parts as 1) it's very good and 2) its cast of George Mackay, Charlie Hunnam, and Nicholas Hoult (in nothing but sock garters), was of specific this-site-interest. Kurzel has another finished film in the can -- called Nitram and starring Caleb Landry Jones and Judy f'ing Davis I actually shared the trailer for it last August and IFC was said at the time to be releasing the film in the first part of this year, but I haven't heard anything since then. Anyway we dig Kurzel and we clearly dig this new cast so sign us up. As for Jupe well I found this photoshoot of the sixteen-year-old so I am posting it after the jump but nobody look unless it's appropriate for you to do so (I personally wrote this post with my eyes closed)...
