Anthony Ramos Twenty-Eight Times

Once again I must say bless Behind the Blinds magazine -- they never do anythin g half-assed. Well unless we're talking about Anthony Ramos wearing a jockstrap, which would be more "full assed" if we could see more of the goods. But the hint of it's plenty for my purposes, especially when we're talking about as the title says 28 pictures in a photoshoot! That's wonderfull full-assed in itself. And knowing them more photos might drop any minute. I suppose I should ask if any of you watched The Beauty...

... the Ryan Murphy series Ramos was on?  I can't remember if we discussed it here. I tend to be more pro Murphy than a lot of people but by the end I was not a fan of The Beauty, besides a few bits n bobs (you can't go wrong with Isabella Rossellini in over-the-top couture). But I'm pretty sure that show's already half-forgotten at this point -- but its nudity (including a great shot of Anthony' ass!) will live on, at least. Murphy never disappoints on that front, if nothing else. Okay actual conversations about substance aisde now let's hit the jump for the new photos...

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

...scooching Anthony Ramos over in the ice bath.

Did anybody watch Ironheart? Ramos dumped a pile of behind-the-scenes photos and videos on his Insta yesterday including the ones seen here, reminding me that I might want to watch that show. I know, I know - superhero shit is decidedly unpopular with the majority of my tasteful MNPP readers and I get it; I just mostly admire the genre's ability to put hot men front and center. Anyway after just getting back from running a few errands in the wretched filthy and disgusting heat of NYKC I'm not even being foremost pervy when I say I want to climb into that ice bath with him -- I just need to cool the fuck down. I hate having a birthday in the center of summer! I don't want to celebrate -- I just want to lie down and die.

Good Morning, World

I found it kind of strange that I didn't catch much Anthony Ramos photoshoot action when Twisters came out -- did Glen Powell unhinge his jaw of pearly whites and swallow up every possible magazine cover? So anyway I am happy to share this one for the ever-reliable Behind the Blinds magazine this here Monday morning. Who doesn't want to roll over and see Anthony laying there, one hand gently nudging his sweater northward... ahem. Hit the jump for the rest...

Anthony Ramos Two Times

This is the second time in as many weeks that I've been so put off by the styling of Anthony Ramos in a photo-shoot that I have edited the photos I share down to just a couple -- he is far too pretty to be wearing the junk they have him in for this Numéro Netherlands photoshoot, but you can see the rest here if you're so inclined. But trust. You're better off just staring at his gorgeous face. You have been warned! (PS this was the other photoshoot.)

Anthony Ramos Three Times

There are several more images of this Flaunt photoshoot over there -- I'm not really into it, except for these three. They can make this man look better dammit. Anyway I saw this pop up today and I was like, "Why the hell is he doing press?" Having no idea he was in the new Transformers movie, of course. Because I gave up on those movies by... the second one, I think? The first two made me want to strangle myself to death with razor wire, so it seemed best for all of us involved I move it along. But congrats on getting paid, Anthony!

Good Morning, World

And a happy 28th birthday to Nope breakout Brandon Perea today! That gif is taken from a video on Brandon's Instagram of him doing some Spider-man moves that's a couple of years old but it's new to my eyes and my eyes are satisfied. See more of Brandon that we posted circa Nope right here. Next for the actor? He just signed onto that Twister sequel Twisters a couple of weeks ago! So another disaster-in-the-skies flick. Don't get typecast, stud!

Anyway that sucker (heh, get it) is chockfull o' hotness though, with Glen Powell, David Corenswet, and Anthony Ramos also on board in its cast beside Brandon. Oh and ALSO there's super-hottie Daryl McCormack from Good Luck to You, Leo Grande! Y'all should probably just prepare yourselves because good grief am I going to make SO many jokes about tornados + sucking with this flick...

Anthony Ramos Would Like To Get Blown Too

In the Heights star Anthony Ramos -- who was kind enough to share some vacation photos on his Instagram last week, see more here -- has joined the cast of Twisters, says Deadline! I told you about this sequel to Jan de Bont's 1996 disaster classic Twister last week when it was announced Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones were going to star in it (and I made several of you very angry by daring to compare Glen to Bill Paxton lol but I stand by it -- I only called them comparative! I certainly don't think Glen has proven himself to be a legend like ol' Bill, I just think they have a similar energy.) Anyway there's really no more information than that, but since this allowed me to re-highlight those shirtless Antony photos from last week I said sure, let's post it. Weirdly I was walking in my neighborhood of Washington Heights yesterday and saw that there was still a gigantic In the Heights promotional banner hanging off a parking garage down the street from me -- y'all gotta let go, dudes.

Alden's Ironheart Will Go On

Remind me the next time I feel like feeling bad for Alden Ehrenreich, a very talented actor I like quite a bit who's had relentless bad luck in picking out flops to star in, that I don't actually have to feel bad for him -- he's doing fine, and like most attractive white boys he keeps get cast in things even after several flops. Would I like to see him in more things? Of course. But all things considered Alden is winning. Take today's news that he's just gotten himself cast into the MCU (thx Mac). Granted it's one on of the many many Disney+ Marvel series that are heading our way, and one about a character I've never heard of before -- the one called Ironheart, who's an inventor who creates "creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man" -- but Deadline says his role is "a key role" (even if per usual it's unnamed) so perhaps it'll be someone who exists in the broader scope of such things. Dominique Thorne from If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas and the Black Messiah is playing the titular inventor, while hot-ass Anthony Ramos is also a part of the cast. Ooh let's look at Anthony Ramos too, while we have the chance!

Good Morning, World

I don't think that Calvin Klein released nearly enough photos when they had Jacob Elordi in their undies campaign, so it was nice to stumble upon these fresh polaroids -- see a couple of the original photos (including his co-model Anthony Ramos, who definitely got more of a showcase) right here. And happy Monday, y'all...

You Win This Round, W Magazine

I was all set to share with you Jake Gyllenhaal's three photos from W Magazine's annual "Best Performances" issue just now and moan about how much I find W's aesthetic visually displeasing every year -- I always hate the costuming and mod-heavy whimsy of it, it always strikes me as too try-hard -- but then I went over to W to grab the link to Jake's piece and instead I saw the below shot of Anthony Ramos, and... well my moans found a new, different outlet. Unfortunately there's only one Anthony photo as best I can tell but it's good not to push our luck, let's just enjoy these ones. You can see all of their shoots, which also include Adam Driver and Tilda Swinton and Kristen Stewart and all of the usual suspects right here. I really recommend just clicking on this photo below and sparing yourself the time though:

HAPPY INDEPLAIDPANTS DAY!

Last year we birthed a new tradition here at MNPP -- it was actually a reader's idea (shout-out to The Futurist!) but I liked it enough that I snatched it up and ran with it. Every year for the 4th of July I shall here henceforth post a gallery of men wearing Plaid Pants, in honor of this website's Dada-esque nonsense title. In case you're unaware -- I've been asked over the years, "What's with the site's name?" And the answer is, "Nonsense." It means nothing. I'd randomly bought a pair of plaid pants the day I started this site, I was trying to figure out something to call the little Blogger blog I was beginning to ramble my thoughts on movies to I assumed an audience of absolutely no one -- I looked down, I saw the pants, a name was born.

It really was genuinely meant to be Dada-esque, as that's my favorite school of Art -- telling that story ascribes more meaning to it than it actually deserves. I wanted to pick a name that meant absolutely nothing. Now that more than "an audience of absolutely no one" have shown up to read my nonsense though I will admit that I sometimes wish I'd picked something actually Movie-related -- I have ended up on lots of PR lists for fashion emails somehow, as if this site was actually about Plaid Pants, haha. And the site's title, WTF & goofy as it is, makes me doubt many Movie PR people will ever put it on a trailer or movie poster. ("Schindlers List is Devastating," says My New Plaid Pants.) Oh well! It is what it is at this point, 15 full years on, we embrace it. With a gallery of actors wearing Plaid Pants for the American Holiday of July 4th, apparently! Keeping things nonsensical, right on after the jump...

Good Morning, World

Only seemed right to end this week the way I started and middled it -- with Anthony Ramos being a hot piece. Especially since this new photo from his Calvin Klein underwear campaign presented itself. (Click to embiggen, and see the previous stuff here and then especially here.) (But who am I kidding, just look at all of our Anthony Ramos posts, they're worth it.) And ending the week we sort of are -- I've technically got one of my Summer Fridays today and would be, in a normal week, not posting anything today at all. But since I've got some reviews from Tribeca and not from Tribeca that will be going up at various places today, I will post at least a little bit in order to direct you to those. Stay tuned, with Anthony to keep you company until then...

Good Morning, World

Wait, what? Two "Good Morning, World" posts about Anthony Ramos two days in a row? (See yesterday's here.) What is happening? A psychologist might say I am trying to make up for not liking In the Heights -- now I'm no psychologist, but I wouldn't go that far. What I think we can blame this on is the fact that I made that post yesterday and in the comments of that post yesterday one of y'all told me Anthony took his bum out on the HBO show In Treatment over the weekend, and so I decided we needed to stare at that as well. See, Big Psychology??? You were wrong, my mommy didn't smother me, ha! Joke's on you! (I told 'em, Mommy.) But speaking of getting smothered, let's Hit the jump to be smothered by Anthony's beautiful bum...

Good Morning, World

I am afraid that one or more of you might look back to my pan of In the Heights and swat its beautiful and charasmatic star Anthony Ramos out of my greedy, filthy hands, shouting I am not worthy of oogling him now... but y'all best be prepared to cut a bitch cuz I fight dirty, especially if somebody comes between me and my beefcake. I'm like Cujo with a toddler tibula! Watch yourself! It's not my fault that movie flopped. Also y'all should calm down, musicals typically have excellent legs (hey just like Anthony also does) and it will probably make money from repeat business as the summer goes on. Also, like I said in said pan, don't listen to me. Like, ever. Good rule of thumb, that!

Anyway y'all remember that lovely photo of Anthony in short yellow shorts that I posted a couple of weeks back? Well Men's Health magazine, which it came from, finally gave us a proper link with a couple more photos! These should make the movie's bad box office sting a little less, my musical loving friends. And making it sting a lot lot less, MH also gifted us with a five-minute workout video of Anthony doing all sots of acrobatic moves whilst shirtless, and you won't wanna miss that -- it's the best thing he's starred in since his Calvin Klein underwear commercial, I tell ya. (Okay okay that's my last ITH dig, I promise.) (I make no such promise.) Hit the jump for the workout video alongside approximately one thousand gifs I made from it...

Heights and Lows

Every time I review a musical it seems important to me to add the disclaimer that I'm not much for musicals. But I think I've generally gotten better about that than I used to be? The list of musicals I can stomach has grown a little longer than it was a decade ago, anyway -- I do still gravitate more towards the ones that twist the form's trappings into new weird ways (your Hedwig, your Moulin Rogue, your Dancer in the Dark) than I do towards ones that embrace classicism (your Chicago or La La Land) but I've at least forced myself to sit down and watch more musicals in general, and so the list has through simple math grown a little longer.

The list is staying the same length today though because I sadly won't be adding In the Heights onto it any time soon. Not that I ever truly thought this movie was going to be made for me -- the only things grabbing me beforehand were the notable sex appeal of Anthony Ramos and the fact that the film is a love letter to my real-life New York neighborhood of Washington Heights. Well, sort of -- although In the Heights was indeed filmed all around my stomping grounds (a pivotal outdoor stairs scene happens less than a sixty second walk from my apartment door!) the ethnic make-up of my precise chunk of the neighborhood is actually mainly Jewish, a group that technically has more of a history with the place than Dominicans can claim, and I don't think I spied a single Jewish person in In the Heights?

I'm not Jewish or Dominican so I am proposing no personal claim to The Heights, save the past decade so far that I've loved living there -- that sort of talk is besides the point, and anyway I've embraced my own villainous destiny as one of the white homosexuals who move into neighborhoods to signal the rent's about to go up (side-note: don't go looking for anything gay in this very straight movie either, save a couple of background tokens spied, where else, during a make-over scene).

But it is in itself fantastic and heartening to see a too-long sidelined minority culture take center stage, and it's winningly showcased by director Jon M. Chu and all of his actors. I think Chu's greatest ability might be with casting, and here, as with Crazy Rich Asians, it feels like you're getting in on the ground floor of a bunch of future movie star careers. Everybody's got charisma to spare.

I just don't really know what it ends up being in service to. For one I found the songs to be wildly forgettable... but here's where my original disclaimer becomes important, because I really hate most Broadway scores. I notoriously can't stand Stephen Sondheim, after all! I mean I can appreciate, on the page, Sondheim's word-craft at the least, but once you tunelessly start talk-singing at me I just immediately check out, mentally-speaking. The music of In the Heights just drones in my ears, same same noise without even the saving grace of Sondheim's skillful wordplay.

The story, similarly, is a mash of tropes I've long tired of -- The Girl Who Wants Out Of This Place! Saintly Old Woman! The Boy Who Wants Out Of This Place! Too many characters with one defined quirk, their predictable stories running along long in-place tracks; I find it difficult to feel inspired when a person's Big Destiny just turns out to be just the tail-end of another cliche playing itself out to its well-trod end for the ten thousandth time. Is this all there is?

I know many people find comfort in the familiar, and not-so-weirdly many of those people seem to be Musical fans. I'm really not trying to be condescending when I say that is nice for them! And I suppose a lot of people will find it enough, the Summer Spectacle, the Big Screen, and I wish them well with even a tinge of jealousy. I'm looking forward to losing myself in the Movie Experience as soon as I can. In the Heights just isn't the one for me.

You Can Always Go, Uptown

Oh! One other thing I should add on to the list of stuff going down this week (see previous post) is the long-awaited release of Jon M. Chu's In the Heights musical movie, starring new fave Anthony Ramos -- I'm sure you've watched the trailer by now but if not, click here. The film is opening the Tribeca Film Festival on Wednesday night in, you guessed it, The Heights. That is to say Washington Heights aka the neighborhood I live in in real life. Sadly I will not be attending this screening because 1) I've already seen the movie and 2) I didn't get an invitation. Number two is probably the more important aspect of why I am not going, but whatever! It's not like Anthony Ramos was going to sit in my lap or anything. (I will spend now awhile thinking about that happening, though.) Anyway if you aren't seeing it here in NYC this week it's out in theaters on Friday every damn where all the same, and to wet our anticipatory whistles the fine folks pushing this feel-good sing-songery have gone and dropped the first eight minutes of the movie online today, giving you a good flavor of what you're in store for. So watch...

Anthony Ramos Would Like Us To Be Happy

Started the day with Anthony so we might as well end it! (He can come at us from both ends, is what I am saying.) Especially since Men's Health was kind enough to gift us that photo which is really capturing my vibe for the four day holiday weekend ahead. Okay not really, I remain allergic to sunlight and smiles, but you get the gist. Everybody have a sexy one!

Good Morning, World

I don't recall the last person to get a tag and fill it up so quick here on MNPP as Anthony Ramos, star of the forthcoming buzzy musical In the Heights has -- his Calvin Klein underwear campaign has more to do with that then the musical does, given my general musical-apathy disorder (GMAD), but I have admitted I am looking forward to Heights more than most simply for the weird pleasure of seeing my own neighborhood represented on-screen. (Here's my post about the trailer where I talk about just that.) Anyway Anthony's (George Washington) bridging the gap between the beefcake and the movie musical today thanks to his new cover shoot and story for The Hollywood Reporter -- I haven't read his interview yet but I have pored over the photoshoot; come pore with me after the jump...
