Good Morning, World

I know it's kinda weird that I have done two Michael B. Jordan posts this week after he beat my boy Timmy at the Oscars on Sunday but the first one saw me being magnaminous while this one... this one's much more basic in its naked thirst. This one's just me seeing a photo from 2015 before the first Creed movie came out, a photo that I'd somehow never seen until yesterday,  and which I feel deserves its place here in the hallowed gratuitous archives of MNPP. Don't you agree?

Good Morning, World

Congratulations to Michael B. Jordan, the deserved Oscar winner for Fruitvale Station. Hey I'm being magnanimous here. Just like how I congratulated Jessie Buckley for her win, see below. So what did we all think of the big show last night? Generally I'm happy, given my favorite movie of 2025 deservedly took home the top prize. I always forget who won the other awards within a week anyway...

Jessie Buckley, best actress for ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’ yayyy

This is Not an Oscars Post

I said all I needed to say on the Oscars yesterday at this link when I shared my ranking of the Best Picture nominees -- now I'm just saying goodbye for the Oscar Weekend, saying "See you on the other side." One of the above two fellows will probably be cradling a golden man in their strong arms come Sunday night -- y'all know who I'm rooting for but whatever will be will be. And so be it! That said my hypocrisy keeps on keeping on because have no doubt I'll be posting about the show on Bluesky as it happens, so if you do want to see me get disgruntled in real time make sure to follow me there. For some people watching me get annoyed is the real entertainment! I'll take it. Have a good weekend, stay safe and stay as sane as is possible in the year 2026. And in summation... I can't say I'd be furious if Wagner sneaked in and pulled it out (so to speak, ahem)...

Alright Here's an Oscar Post

This happens every year I think, even though I block it out -- it gets to be a few days before the Oscars and they're what my movie people are talking about so I "begrudgingly" do a post about them with some of my wishes or whatever. I rightly got called out for being an exhausting hypocrite when it comes to the Oscars the last time I whined about them -- I've tried to explain the attraction / repulsion thing they bring out of me before but really there's not much to it. It's a part of the movies, love it or hate it, so I just want them to do better if they must, so I can not feel attacked while watching the show in order to indulge my fetish for staring at pretty people wearing pretty clothes. Anyway it's probably clear by now who my favorites are -- I shared my own Top 20 List of 2025 back in January, after all -- but I rattled this off-hand on Bluesky earlier so I might as well share this, my ranking of the Best Picture nominees, here on the site itself:

2026 Best Pictures nominees, as ranked by me!

1. ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
2. MARTY SUPREME
3. THE SECRET AGENT
4. BUGONIA
5. SENTIMENTAL VALUE
6. SINNERS
7. FRANKENSTEIN
8. HAMNET
9. TRAIN DREAMS
10. F1

No big surprises there! And it's a better batch of nominees than it is worse, so that's nice -- really any of those Top 6 winning Best Picture wouldn't rankle me. Because of the way awards conversations twist everything into shit I do have to keep reminding myself that for the most part I really like Sinners -- nowhere near how much I like its main competetion for this award (and I think we'll all be shocked if it's not either Sinners or OBAA that wins), and some of its champions have gotten real fucking annoying in the past few weeks. But it's a fun movie full of terrific performances and one for-the-record-books sequence. I get why people love it so much. So let's just enjoy the movies and all of those pretty people wearing pretty clothes for a few hours this weekend! The barn's burning down around us otherwise, might as well. Gimme your rankings in the comments!

Pics of the Day

As I said just two posts down I watched some of the SAG Awards -- or The Actors, whatever, I don't care -- last night but switched over halfway through to watch the finale of my beloved Industry, which turned out to be an excellent decision. I'm on the record that I think Michael B. Jordan is the weak link in Sinners so I don't really understand that win at all, but whatever -- MBJ seems like a great guy and he's a genuine movie star so I get why people would want to reward him for such a big movie. I know the tide's turned on Timmy and it's super cool to hate on him these days but I personally think it's willful blindness to ignore how incredible he is in Marty Supreme. No Marty is not a "likable" character, but the second I start begging to watch likable people in movies is the day you can take me out behind the barn. Anyway the beautiful losers Timmy and Jacob Elordi were all over each other all night so we did win something! These photos.

Jack O'Connell Seven Times

I started this post meaning to say that I wanted to extend an olive branch to the movie Sinners, because I rewatched it this past weekend and have kinda been tearing into it on Bluesky because I think it's a fine and fun but not award-worthy movie. But apparently my wires got crossed while staring at these photos of Jack O'Connell because what I ended up typing the first time through this post was that I wanted to extend a "fig leaf" to the movie -- lol. Oh to see Jack in nothing but a fig leaf!

Not that we're at a loss for Jack in even less than that -- hell I saw him take a long, long, long nude shower on stage in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof back in the day. (Long live the theater.) Anyway -- Sinners. It's good! Ocassionally great. Some of its key performances are lacking though, and what it has to say about race feels really muddled by its end to me. And speaking of -- that third act is a mess. Incoherent at times. I mean I love to see a horror movie get praised but I think people are mistaking several magnificent elements for the full picture of the thing. Anyway, whatever. It could be worse -- it could be Weapons getting too much praise! And we're really just here to star at Jack! So hit the jump and do that then...

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Sinners (2025)

Remmick: Long ago... the men who stole my father's land forced these words upon us. I hated those men, but the words still bring me comfort. Those men lied to themselves and lied to us. They told stories of a God above and a Devil below. And lies of a dominion of man over beast and Earth. We are earth and beast, and god. We are woman and man. We are connected, you and I - to everything. You will taste the sweet pain of death. We will make beautiful music together.
I'm seeing this movie on IMAX again tonight!
So it's on my mind. Anybody rewatched it lately?

Pics of the Day

Here are a pair of pleasant set photos of Michael B. Jordan and his big beautiful torso smeared with blood on the Sinners set for your enjoyment -- even though this movie's still making oodles of money in theaters it's hitting VOD next week on June 3rd, and then it drops on blu-ray etc. on July 8th. (If you haven't yet pre-order that right here.) I was hoping to see it again on IMAX but my schedule has not been participating and with Tribeca starting next week looks like that's another dead dream, oh well! Maybe they'll re-release it in autumn for awards attention; fingers crossed. (click to embiggen)

Jack O'Connell Seven Times

Wildly I haven't been able to see Sinners yet (I am going this upcoming weekend though) but I have heard from several sources that Jack O'Connell is one of its many highlights and this makes me extremely glad -- talk about a terrific (and yeah let's be honest super beautiful) actor who's gone criminally underutilized for far too long. He's been screaming out for a great director to give him a juicy role for twelve years now since the one-two punch of Starred Up and '71 landed in 2013 (and then there was his breakthrough on Skins before that) -- which isn't to say he hasn't delivered good work in that time. (Go watch Andrew Haigh's miniseres North Water with Colin Farrell and Jack right now.) I'm just glad to hear he's gotten to stand out in a box office hit. More Jack please! Speaking of I have some more from this fresh sexy photoshoot for Hero magazine (read the interview here) for us right on after the jump...

Jack O'Connell Is Our Immortal Beloved

I keep waiting for Jack O'Connell to have a big break-out role... and waiting, and waiting. He's always been terrific in anything I've seen him in. He has the bone structure of a god. And he's Irish -- I mean aren't Irishmen supposed the It Fellas of the moment? Even Colin Farrell says so, and he's clearly got no stake in such a staement at all! But seriously Jack is really a genuinely talented actor and he should've had a big definitive role by now. So here's to hoping this next one he's "circling" might be it -- Collider is reporting (thx Mac) that he might play the villain opposite Michael B. Jordan in Ryan "Black Panther" Coogler's next movie. Rumors abound that the movie is about vampires in the Antebellum South, but all we know for certain is it's described as "an event film" and it will be filmed in IMAX and it's already got a release date of March 7th 2025.  Not only does all of that sound extremely cool, but this sure sounds like the kind of project that would get a lot of eyes on Jack, too. Win win!

Pics of the Day

It's been about three weeks since Creed III hit theaters but thankfully we're not done getting to stare at fresh photos of Jonathan Majors and Michael B. Jordan being sexy glistening boxing beasts in it -- the photographer Eli Joshua was kind enough today to share a big batch of set photos he took via his Instagram (thx Mac) and they are everything the last three weeks have been missing. (Jonathan Majors' oiled-up pecs, is what I mean specifically.) Ahhhh I can breathe again. They are all of just Jonathan save the above photo, but that one got top placement for obvious, homoerotic reasons. Hit the jump for the rest...

Pics of the Day

Creed III
is out today and our bud Kyle at The New York Times got to sandwich himself in between Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors -- at least that's how I would have conducted the interview anyway -- to ask them some questions. Check it here. The pictures, which I'm sharing here, are worth looking at! They're worth looking at several times. But the chat is good too -- they really seem to've hit it off, Jordan & Majors, and say they plan on working together again. Said Majors:

"Two alphas? No, bro, we both cannot survive. Somebody’s got to die. That’s the game I thought I was entering into, and he just kept saying, “I got you, bro.” I was like, “Boy, all right.”"

Anyway it doesn't look like I'll be reviewing Creed III so here are some quick thoughts -- it's actually terrific? I infamously couldn't stand the first Creed movie, so much that I never even bothered seeing the second one. But what bothered me so much about the first movie -- all the Daddy Issues nonsense got on my last nerve -- was nowhere to be found here, and I found the relationship that Jordan and Majors craft between two old friends pretty riveting. I cannot say how much of my opinion was formed by how hard I am in the tank for Majors right now -- there answer is hard, real real hard -- but I'm usually bored out of my mind by boxing movies and I was totally into this one from start to end. And that's not to say it's anything we haven't seen before -- it's not exactly rewriting the genre. But it's a solid entry built on real character work. Y'all should go see it. And y'all should hit the jump for more of these hunks...

Good Morning, World

Creed III is out this Friday, so what better time for star and newly minted director Michael B. Jordan to take off all of his clothes and pose in his underwear for us? (That is actually a trick question, because there is no "better time" -- every time is equally good for this to happen.) He's the latest Calvin Klein cover-boy (via) and while I'm sure there are more photos to come I have three more for you right now after the jump and I'll update as needed...

Jonathan Majors Four Times

Yesterday I posted some very fine photos of Jonathan's Creed co-star and director Michael B. Jordan and said that I should try to give Mikey some attention too, since it's technically his movie but all I do is post about Jonathan... well I'm back on my bullshit less than 24 hours later! Oh well! I can't help it that The Cut went and dropped these four fine-ass photos today, alongside an interview where Jonathan says his way of flirting is to text invite someone over and then "only wear sweatpants." HOW DARE HE. PS I saw the new Ant-Man movie last night and, uhhhhh, well maybe I will review it properly in a bit. I can report that Jonathan is good at least. Anyway hit the jump for the photos...

Michael B Jordan Ten Times

My coverage of the third Creed movie has obviously favored Jonathan Majors, since I (like I gather many of you) tend to favor Jonathan Majors. In just about everything. Like I am 100% seeing the Ant-Man sequel tonight because of him. Well and Michelle Pfeiffer. But mostly him. Anyway that doesn't mean we won't give a moment of time to the Creed franchise's leading man Michael B. Jordan, who's showing off his own impeccable pecs in the new issue of Rolling Stone. Just about two weeks and we'll see all of these greased up pecs slamming into each other! Cinema! Hit the jump for the whole shoot (with a few outtakes I dug up too)...

The Glistening

The international poster for the third Creed movie starring Michael B. Jordan again and introducing Jonathan Majors as his opponent (watch the trailer here) is very very sweaty and very very focused on their torsos, and we are very much here for that (click to embiggen). I can't believe I'm posting about a Creed movie -- I did not like the first one and entirely skipped the second one -- but so goes my love for Jonathan Majors. It's unstoppable!

Majors Majors Majors

It feels weird for me to be excited about a Creed movie! I was not a fan of the first film -- so much so that I never even bothered seeing the second one. And yet you add Jonathan Majors to the mix and wham bam thank you Jonathan Majors I'm all over that shit. Or at least...

... I'm all over making gifs out of every single gratuitous shot of Jonathan Majors contained in the first trailer for the movie, which dropped this morning. Much like I did with that truly outrageously thorough Men's Health workout video last week (if you missed that I really recommend clicking the link) and much like I did those photos of Majors working out on the beach when they were shooting this film. I am thorough, in this one respect anyway!

I don't really seem to be alone in this though -- I feel like this trailer is 75% Jonathan Majors? Looks like Michael B. Jordan, directing his first movie here,  has a good eye! If the movie is as focused on his muscles as this trailer is then it's giving me a run for the money. Anyway the film's not out until next March but for now, we got this:

And I made more gifs! Hit the jump for them...

Good Morning, World

The first pair of posters for Creed III arrived this morning (via), each one individually depicting the film's combatants -- above we see our fave Jonathan Majors who plays a character named "Damian Anderson" and down below there's our leading man (and this time director!) Michael B. Jordan as the Creed in question.

I feel as if I should save this question for when the trailer arrives soon (very soon, from what I hear) but who's to say I can't ask this question one dozen times until this movie is out in March...

Good Morning, World

This morning we are wishing the great Jonathan Majors a happy 33 -- that's right it's his Jesus Year, and weirdly all that's making me think os that odd part in his recent NYT profile where he predicted he might die young? And that is not the vibe I want to be going for with this birthday celebration so let's shuffle that thought off to Buffalo (aka where the Sun don't shine). Anyway Devotion, Jonathan's fighter-pilot movie with Glen Powell, is premiering at TIFF any day now and I wish I was up there to see it -- here's the trailer if you missed it -- but the movie opens in theaters in about six weeks so it's not too bad a wait. After that he's got all that MCU stuff as Kang the Conquerer (and in that NYT profile he pretty much admitted he's the big villain for the next big Phase and he's going to be in several movies and get to play a heap of different characters, since Kang is a multiversal villain) and his role as Michael B. Jordan's opponent in Creed III -- mmm remember those photos of him working out on set?

Also just realizing that's lots of villain stuff coming up? I guess he is rather intense, so that plays into it, but I wanna see another sweetheart like Monty in The Last Black Man in San Francisco from him soon. Maybe Devotion? Anyway all that is later -- right now I'm doing something I've meant to do for a few years but kept putting off, which is make gifs of Jonathan's gay sex scene with Charlie Carver in Dustin Lance Black's 2017 gay-rights-movement miniseries When We Rise. And full disclosure: I kept not making these gifs because I still have never seen When We Rise, and I wanted to see When We Rise when I posted these so I could talk about it. I am ashamed I didn't watch this when it aired! And ashamed still to not have seen it. Feel free to tongue-lash me for all of that in the comments, but first let's tongue-lash our computer screens staring at all of these gifs after the jump...
