From KyleC - Bloodbound Skullcrushers (60 points)

So was a busy work week, so didn't get a chance to post up anything recently. And these 3 monster riders were quite a challenge to paint up (and seems also to photograph properly!!!).

The final unit from the Bloodbound Starter box set. Lots of blue and brass here... and lots of blending that might be able to see still?

I did do a small switch-a-rooney here with the spears, and gave them all bloodletter swords for them. Make them unique ( and I will do this for all the riders, 10+ in all, for the army I plan to play ) and stand out. Though painting up the swords then I had to make them more interesting. Thankfully I had some Tamiya Clear Blue on hand, and some darker blue ink. Gives it a semi ice feel to it.

I still need to put snow to the bases of the whole army, but want to get a few more trials out of the way on methods before I commit them to the whole force.

Also I am still experimenting on the skulls. On the shield you see one style, on the base another, and on the helm some pure black ones. Need to find the appropriate color scheme for them.. but am leaning more towards the one on the shield atm.. and yes with the OSL Orange eyes on them.

So yeah.. three 28mm Monster mounted riders for my army. No idea about points for them but will leave that to good old Sidney here :D But am just happy to have the starter box finished, and a good core group for the army now. But will switch gears to something else in the meantime to give myself a rest from the blues!

Oh and a quick group shot of them all together!

------------------------------------------------------

Ooooooo, Kyle, these are magnificent.  They compliment your other Bloodbounds and fit perfectly with the theme, colour and style.  The colour is wonderfully dramatic, and that is just going to POP like crazy on any table top - especially an ice-bound, frost-crackled steppe or snow-desert.  Really super work on the inking, and the metallics, and they really knit and draw the force together.

And they really do look the part, slavering and growling their way across the path of devastation to their quarry.  Ugh.....wonderfully unpleasant troops!

But what is not unpleasant is that I think you've more than earned the right to treat these guys as 54mm figures.  Treating each as a cavalry figure, that would get you 60 points in total - which I think is along the line of the Bloodhounds.  Awesome work, Sir!

From NickJ: Blood Reavers (100 Points)

Once Upon a Time Travel...

Well that flipping deadline and countdown clock on the front page has been doing nothing for my nerves this weekend! And everytime I refresh the Analogue page there's a new awesome post so I get distracted from the task at hand...

It's tough I tell you. Tough.

Anyway what's with the time travel? Well for me it's Monday morning and as a Mondayiner I feel obliged, nay safe, to be posting on a Monday. Of course the Analogue is still on Sunday so I get to post backwards in time... that's how time zones work right?

For the next few seconds/minutes you will hopefully be reviewing pictures of a 20 man strong squad of Khorne Bloodblound - The Blood Reavers. Yes I know. GW once again have named a unit from the Bloodbound Faction with the prefix of Blood. They probably carry Blood Axes. And Blood helmets. And most likely Blood Packed Lunch boxes for when they get peckish.

Lunch Box? Aw crap. Can we go back as I left mine in the fridge?
These boys are the human cultists who form the backbone of the cannon fodder units within the Chaos Pentagram. Sorry did I say cannon fodder? Of course what I meant was these are the brave souls on the cusp of daemonhood as they present skulls for the Skull God!

Usually their own skull mind but let's quickly step beyond that slight inconvenience...

I opted for a warm colour scheme so everything is from the red/brown/yellow end of the spectrum. Sepia shade for the skin and yellow shade over most of the rest of the model.

I found these heads lying around. Anyone missing a head?
I decided to steer clear of highlighting and went for a table top finish using lots of shades and a little dry brushing. I suspect it would add a week if I went for the highlighting!

Meet the command group and yes that banner is hand-painted. OK well it;s molded by GW first and then I played around with the paints!

This squad of 20 is from the Age of Sigmar starter set. Very good quality for starter minis and you get 10 different poses which are presented below for your delight.

Eric?! Will you sort your pose out there's a good chap! Smile everyone!
 Even the fur is yellow...

Weapons use the same technique of yellow shades as the previous Bloodbound unit. And the helmets/metal trim work is a lead colour metallic paint washed with the yellow shade to give a faux gold appearance.

That's 20 x 28mm figures which should work out to a nice round 100 points.

Sadly I've fallen short of my target but given I missed a quarter of the Analogue time due to unscheduled work travel I'm more than happy with my contribution.

I also completed 2 side quests:
Completing 1 unit from each of the 5 factions ahead of our Nottingham Trip
Painting over 100 models - I completed 105 with this unit added in.
Considering I hadn't painted anything for 2 years prior to the Challenge starting I'm chuffed.

Thanks to everyone for making my first time here a delight. Special Thanks to Curt and his Minions for running this madness and for Miles for being my Monday Minion.

See you next year if all goes to plan.

Mondayiners Unite!

These guys are grimly wonderful. I really like all the warm tones you've used for them - it definitely gives them an infernal countenance and the black ash bases make them 'pop' even more. Excellent work.

Well Nick, I'm delighted you had a great Challenge and I'm especially pleased knowing that you had a 2-year drought previous to the event. That's what the Challenge is all about - motivation and camaraderie. I hope to see you next time we roll out.

From NickJ - Bloodbound & Tzeentch

Once Upon a GW Weekend...

It all got a bit Inception like as I set myself a challenge within The Challenge (capital letters for the Analogue!). Last weekend a group of us went North to Lenton: home of Games Workshop. The weekend involved alcohol. I'm pretty sure it involved gaming and many, many laughs but mostly I remember the alcohol...

Anyway, I set myself a challenge to ensure I had painted 1 unit from each of my Pentagram Factions prior to the trip. All well and good except for the minor issue that I lost 10 painting days thanks to work sending me to the U.S.

So did I finish them all in time? You've already seen the first 3 factions - Skaven, Daemons and Beastmen so now let me introduce you to the 4th Faction: Khorne Bloodbound.

This is a unit of Blood Warriors (I make no comment on the fact the Bloodbound unit includes the word Blood in their title)

I ended up having to speed paint these. On the Monday before the trip North they had no paint on them save the undercoat. They were done bar the basing in time for the trip! The basing was completed after arriving back home.

I'm pretty pleased with them given the fact I hate speed painting and am incredibly OCD about details.
Bloodbound are normally depicted in Red & Brass/Gold. I opted to dry brush Red and then the armour trim is actually a Lead colour metallic paint washed with Yellow shade.
The weapons are painted in a similar style to the flame swords my Daemons were sporting but this time purely to give a contrast rather than as an actual flame based weapon.
Now I can hear you asking about the 5th faction. Did I achieve my goal?

Well let me show you:
This is a Magister. He represents the final faction of the Pentagram - The Disciples of Tzeentch (the first T is silent. Ish)
Now this chap had absolutely no paint save the undercoat on the Thursday morning. Yes 24 hours before the trip North he was somewhat Paint Deficient.
Also I lacked blue paints. So yes I had to go out and buy paints in order to get him completed in time for the weekend! This chap is a Sorceror (as most of the followers of Tzeentch are) and again considering he was speed painted across a single day including shopping trip and finishing at 10pm I'm very happy with the results.

So there we are. Mini-Challenge complete. Another 6 28mm figures completed for the army bringing the total to 46 and adding 30 points to my Challenge total. Still a long way to go mind and now work have decided I need to be in the U.S. again for 2 weeks. It's going to be a real challenge to hit my 500 point target but I'll keep plugging away and who knows I might hit that target in time for next year's challenge!!

MilesR - Ha you go to the states and I go to the UK on business.  If only British Airways would let us paint on the flights...  Anyway, these are superb figures - your use of orange hues is really very impressive
