From DavidB: House Kurita (300 points)

So now we are in the waning days of the Challenge. I was lucky enough to get a couple more days at the brushes and am back at home for the next couple of days attempting to clear my desk of everything begun this challenge. Thank you all for the well wishes and although my step dad lived out in the styx, It has been a lot of wonderful eye candy this season, and also Thank You for the well wishes. I deal best with adversity by keeping busy and this bunch of goodies kept me busy today.

Up first are a couple of cars that are 3D printed. I used two different color shift metallics to paint the sedans one a green to red and the other a green to gold.....they both look the same-ish metallic green in photos, but they do look fantastic and sparkly in person. They are destined to be used as table dressing in cyberpunk, 5150, stargrave, and any other future not quite grim dark. There will be more sedans and trucks to try out more turbodork paints.

The pimped up plum and a cool metallic deep blue for the trucks, trim was done in fantatic paint metallics.

I used contrast paints for the glass and smoothed out the hues and added visual pop with lighter hue fanatic paints.

The original files are 6mm, but on a whim I scaled them up to 28mm size and can say the detail is absolutely incredible.

This is one of the first 28mm trucks I printed up and it was a learning curve in figuring out the kits and parts needed. I will blame exuberance in the haphazard files. I spent most of November printing scores of trucks and seemed to have to add additional parts to other truck models just to get all the wheels and other bits needed...and figuring out supports and organizing the build plate.

The barrels are 3D prints too

I found this and thought to use it as a GSC truck, but it was very small as even a goblin would have a hard time fitting into the door. I scaled up the model and when made larger it has provided a good AC for my genestealer cults force....after I get a gun for it.

It is still a nice design and looks appropriate for recon duties

from the scifi truck kit I bought, I had files for trailers and made this radar/command trailer for my battletech infantry games as a good terrain and objective piece.

a nice yellow flashing strobe light to warm the radar is in use and handy screens for intel accesible without entering the trailer.

the trailer has a potent air filtration and AC to keep all those keyboard warriors and computers inside functioning.

I did House Steiner earlier and now I have a platoon of Kurita troops to fight them.

I also have some structures to add later to the vicks which will be used as stage dressing for now.

I even finished up a trailer for the grey trucks painted earlier.

I used the fanatic desaturated greens for the fatigues and warm browns for the body armor on these troops.

The rankers are all in the same pose, but I think I might be able to find some more Ral Partha battletech minis to add to the ones I have painted now.

Two opposing platoons are fine for some quick skirmish games in 5150.

The kurita platoon leader  has a platoon sgt, two machine gun teams and his driver/aide/coffee bearer/grenadier.

It is wonderful to have them all painted now and I am glad I had them for the providence of how well the match the trucks which gives them purpose for upcoming games

Up first is a portion of the starter box set. A lance of medium and heavies with a madcat providing fire support and a light mech for recon.

I painted them in the bright red of Kurita Sword of light. They will be elite pilots as only good troops can succeed in mechs painted in "look at me" colors....like a huge robot on a battlefield is hard to notice!

and finally we have a command lance for which may become part of my first "army"
I based them on the merc company "filthy lucre" and like the dusty look with kurita red spot color.

an archer missile boat backs up the formidable marauder with a couple of recon light mechs.
I like the campaign rules more than the one off battles as a Marauder or Atlas would be a considerable drain on resources and difficult to repair or replace whereas the lowly Commando or urbanmech can be easier to field and replace. For all their faults, at least Catalyst games made a decent game and also easier to gather some decent mechs for battle, the classic metal models are quite difficult to source for cheap.

well that is it for this bunch, and a few more miniatures from the pile to paint.
so six 28mm vicks and a radar/HQ trailer for 140 points
24 28mm infantry for 120 points
2 heavy machine gun teams for 20 points
and 8 mechs for 16 points
296 points
also since I only got 16 stompy robots.....I will have to wait for a new season and cleanup of the bots that are still printing even now! good job Sander in a marvelous horde of mechs!

TeemuL: That is a huge amount of painted minis, David! The cars look great, I'd like to see them live and see the color shifts, but the regularly painted cars anyway excellent. I like your military vehicles, too. The Kurita troops are a bit monotonous, but you can't help it. And finally the mechs nicely round up your entry, filling your round table quite well. I'll round up your points to 300, the mechs are worth more points in my opinion.

Greed- DavidB( 245 points)

So Greed is often associated with wealth, but also can be for power. Probably my favorite book I have read ( without pictures) is the History of Florence by Nicco Machiavelli. He with his unique insight and wit identified the new wealth( business owners) the nobles, and the papal forces of the Vatican as the the main three forces causes strife in the known world and Italy. Machiavelli also wrote in that tome "there is always two parties. The party who has the power and the party that desires the power, neither is working for the good of the state." That is certainly a bit of greed on those parties and those same ones still pull the strings ,although fear of Bourbon kings has receded,  the push and pull of power remains.
In the Battletech lore, House Steiner is an Inner Sphere power. They are the remnants of European power and nobility with many of House Steiner tracing their ancestral lines to Knightly lords and Napoleonic generals. They have kept power and in books by Michael Stackpole and others that I read in the 80's and 90's, they can be altruistic heroes or power brokers and power junkies. All forces in Battletech can be similar in their greed for power and it is quite easy to find a plot devise to make an entertaining wargame,
My greed is a touch different. I am a wargaming packrat. Up first are these wonderful trucks that I ordered from the Wargamers Vault. I found some very inexpensive files of 28mm scifi trucks and since the were modular and interchangeable, I paid less for those files than a space marine tank kit. These trucks were the first files run through my 3D printer in October. They are brilliant, really nice kits easy to put together.....and look entirely too small for Necromundia and other games workshop games.

Still, I love these trucks in their detail and simpilcity, and being perfectly fine trucks there was never a doubt of making more...but larger.

I painted them for two reasons... I do hate painting vicks. I would much rather paint a bunch of infantry as that is a noticeable squad, regiment, or army with noticeable progress.a truck or two is just a truck or two. Vicks are a part of wargaming especially in the genres I like most.
I paired these trucks with a House Steiner platoon that has been laying around for a very long time.

A platoon commander with his platoon sgt, aid(driver, scribe, runner) and two heavy laser teams

These are old Ral Partha sculpts and are more 25mm than 28mm, but look fine with the trucks.

The platoon has three squads of troops with smaller "man portable" heavy lasers and the rest with laser rifles and carbines. With eight man squads, perhaps the heavy laser is kinda portable....from experience I can honestly remind you that man-portable is not synonymous with easy or fun. At least this platoon has access to two trucks from which the troops can place the man-portable weapons in.

They are very fine sculpts and had very little flash and cleanup needed. Poses are often repeated and the weapon crew guns made me glue my fingers together many times

The platoon Sgt has a pack on his back which could be a radio for the commander or his bag of useful items to disperse to the squads.

And finally, the whole platoon together. I have a few more trucks and Kurita troops to paint, but now I can use 5150 Star Army or any other rule set for platoon vs platoon skirmish and they wont look like lilliputians. I even have a few pieces of terrain that match them, so the battles will look proper and be more immersive. Perhaps a 25mm mech or two in a future game...

I bought these after I first left active duty in the late 80's and when some college friends wanted to play Battletech when Rogue Trader and warhammer 40k were still new. My mistake was I liked soldiers and painting them even then and my friend who was supposed to help me find some stuff for our games thought they soldiers were cool and did not show me the mechs or even a lance worth of recommended battle mechs to use in the game...and it was RPG and not a wargame, so miniatures were not needed.
From 1989 they have been unpainted and now they are ready for the table, after Kurita is completed. So 40 years later they have a use besides collecting dust! I should have purged them from the collection of the mountain of neglect years ago.

two 28 mm trucks at 20 points each  for 40points
27 troops at 5 points each...135points
5 big guns at 10 points...50 points
225 points plus 20 for the greed of a gaming hoarder

Great to see these classic BT Battletroops get some love Dave!
Your project is really coming together well

From SteveA: KoW 10mm Heavy Calvary, Wizard's Tower on a Hill, Old Ral Partha & GW Minis, FrostGrave (150 points)

Hello again Analog Painters!  I have been painting since first day of challenge, but this here is my first post.  I am keen to visit upon many of this year's Themes as I endeavor to paint up forces of  playable armies/gangs/regiments or whatever name may be applied to a group of miniatures depending on the table top rule uses,  cults/troops/pods/flocks/herds/gaggles etc...

LIMBO:  This year's first theme is cause for some joy as I have many partly painted minis for which in years past I have had inspiration only to start and now for small few some of those neglected mini-souls, this challenge has given me an inspiration to complete!

These models for my 10mm Kings Of War table have ignominiously drifted in partly painted Limbo since last year's AHPC.  When playing Kings of War with ByronM we used 10mm models on the same regiment base sizes as for the 28mm KOW game, with the intent of having more minis displayed on each base to make the battle field appear more well attended with larger forces.  By using 10mm in place of 28mm we forward the rule of cool without negatively impacting the rules of the game.

The Heavy Cavalry are 3d prints available from Forest Dragon (https://forestdragon.gumroad.com/)

The Wizards Tower atop the outcropping is 3d resin print, not sure from where the print file was from.  To the recollection of my Limbo fogged mind, a couple years back I saw ByronM had printed one of these Towers for himself, I thought it was cool and he was good enough to print another for me for a modest reallocation of coins from my pockets to his.

The hill beneath the tower I built from 2 layers of 3' foam scrap I found in the back of my Dad's garage, which I sculpted (hacked up?) with a foam cutter, and thereupon glued a variety of small stones and sand acquired from my backyard in preparation for painting.

Also emerging from the misty haze of Limbo is another hangover from my last year AHPC  incompletes,  a couple of Games Workshop Ghouls hailing from the 1990s.  These 2 minis are among a couple dozen or so old GW minis that I have stripped and repainted, only to re-strip and re-paint again so often, that now I had to either paint them with their final layer of paint or stuff a dollar bill in their waist band if I wanted to have them stripped again.

So I decided they could now best find a path to a final lasting paint job by joining my growing menagerie of  baddies that could potentially wander upon a FrostGrave game table.
Since I have yet to build up a sufficient mass of wintery ruins and environs to host a properly appointed FrostGrave game, I also painted up a couple of my first proof of concept winter scatter terrain pieces that had also suffered some incomplete experimental pigmentation last year.

Departing Limbo.... and hailing to Sarah The Succubus  to bus me past the Theme for NSFW minis and deliver me unto the Theme of Gluttony, with a 'bus ticket I purchased by this Cultist Executioner Lady.

Both she and her fellow cultist executioner recently escaped Limbo via the winding paths around the Wizard's Tower, to return to their service under their Gluttonous and Demonic master.

GLUTTONY: The chubby (and toothy) Daemon, Cultists and scatter terrain have languished in my pile of shame for about 30 years, used in many a Role Playing game with but a base coat of black but never until now painted to proxy and participate in a miniature table top battle. Thusly assembled for this challenge, I think these minis and terrain bits represent barrels of food being cracked open by cultists hoping to gain favor from a Gluttonous Deamon to whom they seek to provide a feast.

The barrels are wood cut items I unexpectedly found in a hardware store back in the 90s. While poking around the store isle for replacement door hinges and drawer handles, I unexpectedly stumbled upon an assortment of plain wooden Christmas village craft bits, the barrels seemed RPG mini compatible so I bought 10,  never found them again, wish I had picked up more.   The tables minis are from some interior RPG mini terrain blister pack I also picked-up in the 90s as an impulse buy from a local hobby shop that ceased to exist many years back.

Daemon Ral Partha 1983,  Executioners Ral Partha 1994.

The Dwarf is a GW  mini from the 90's that was part of an WFB cannon crew, which recall was given to me in the late 90s as within a box of mixed of unwanted miscellaneous minis from a friend who was moving in with a lady and had need to downsize his pile of shame.
