From DebD: Lorus Hightower (6 pts)

This guy has been sitting on my desk for three weeks now, just waiting to be blogged.

Scale: 28mm
Mfg: Reaper Miniatures
Product: 02771: Lorus Hightower
Material: Metal

I think the dragon head on the staff is a bit weird and thought maybe he should have been wood color, but my imagination got the better of me and he became the color of an icy sea creature.

Since I was in the icy sea creature mood, the base became icy as well.. but the icy blue color looks kind of magical.

His cloak had to have the galaxy pattern on it.

I am not sure what spell he is invoking with his sea creature staff and scroll, but it seems dangerous to be on this side of it...

1 x 28mm = 5 points

Thanks!
Deb

Beautiful work once again Deb.

I really like how his wooden staff transitions to the mythical creature's head - lovely effect that. I also very much admire the starfield on the back of his cloak. With his hirsute face, arcane shopping list and trippy staff, he definitely looks the image of a heavy-hitting magician.

6 points, with a pip added for the great basework. Thanks for sharing Lorus with us Deb!

From DebD: Judgement 52mm (40 points)

Hello!
Judgement is a 54mm kickstarter game out of Australia. This is my first time painting 54mm miniatures.  At this size, it is much easier to add extra detail.
https://judgement.game

Scale: 54mm
Mfg: Gunmeister Games
Material: Resin

Product: Doenrakkar - Minotaur Shaman

This guys sculpt was amazingly detailed. He is mostly skin and to get the blending and highlights smooth, I had to do one muscle at a time, of which he has many. Needless to say, I felt muscle cross-eyed by the time I was done.

His spear stone is supposed to be turquoise stone. It was so fun to paint,  I think I need to find more semi-precious gemstone wielding miniatures...

Artwork for Doenrakkar - Minotaur Shaman. He somehow seems less muscle-ly here...

Product: Thrommel Ironbeard - Dwarf Warrior

Dwarves, war hammers, braided beards... what's not to like with this guy?

Product: Saiyin - Elf Priestess (Soulgazer)

For her eyes, I was trying to paint a purple version of Storm from X-men.

Artwork for Saiyin - Elf Priestess (Soulgazer)

Product: Istariel - Elf Misteress of the Flame

Her colors are so bright, she would have made an excellent anime character. I guess that is fitting for someone wielding flames.

She is wearing many, many tiny chains. They look nice, but are very tedious to paint.
This was also the first time I tried to paint a figure exactly like it's 2d artwork.  At first I wasn't too keen on the idea, but after the miniature was finished, I enjoyed being able to look at both side by side. It was like she had popped out of the painting into real life. fun!

4 x 54mm Judgement figures @ 10 pts each for a total of 40 pts

Thanks!
Deb

Wow, once again absolutely stunning work Deb. Each one of these is superb, the minotaur with his excellent skintone and turquoise stone weapon, the dwarf with his muted armour and gold filigree, the fire effects of the flame priestess... again wow. I must say that my favourite has to be elf priestess with the rising spectre and the energy bloom in her right hand. Absolutely beautiful stuff.

40 very well-earned points. I'll also mark these as contenders for Sarah's Choice. Thanks for sharing your work with us Deb!

From DebD: Reaper: Harsk, Dwarf Ranger (5 Points)

Happy Friday!

Scale: 28mm
Mfg: Reaper Miniatures
Product: 60004: Harsk, Dwarf Ranger
Material: Metal

He has a very intense stare. I think he might be chasing down the elf in the forest (previously painted).. he must not like her ballet like poses ;)

I had so much fun painting all the items he is carrying (especially the teapot).

This is my first time adding the foam moss, but I like how it added some depth to the base.

Thanks!

Haha! Yes, Deb, I contracted this fellow to have a little 'chat' with that poncy 'Elf from the Bolshoi'. :)

Again you impress us with your brushwork for this stolid chap. His teapot and plaid rolled blanket are excellent touches, and I agree, the moss adds a nice bit of vibrancy to the flagstone base. I also like how you've done the blued steel of his rune axe - a nasty bit of ironmongery there.

5 well-earned points for you Deb! Lovely work.

From DebD: Dark Sword: Female Ranger with Bow (10 points)

This week I had a bit of fun with Dark Sword's Female Ranger. I wanted to try to create a forest scene and use bits of nature. I really enjoyed this project. Surprisingly, bark is very fun to work with!

Scale: 28mm
Mfg: Dark Sword Miniatures
Product: Female Ranger with Bow
Material: Metal

The bow was added to the model. It is a metal spear that I clipped and filed down.

The trees are twigs, bark and moss found on a hike and later dried in the oven.  Some people bake cookies, I bake bark lol

The ferns are card stock paper that has been punched out with Green Stuff World's small branch punch.

The leaves in the trees and on the ground are birch seeds that have also been dried out.

One of these weeks, I will have more than one figure to post :)

Thanks!

Wow, what an absolutely stunning vignette Deb.

The figure's ridiculous pose aside (What tortured mind comes up with these incongruous, quasi dance-class animations?), you've done a terrific job on the bow modification and the painting is top shelf, particularly her face.

The forest setting you've created is truly inspired and I really like what you've done with the various mixed media to achieve the overall effect (Note to self: I absolutely NEED that small branch punch thingy).

On top of the standard 5 points for the figure I'm giving you another 5 for the groundwork and bow modifications. Lovely work Deb!

From DebD: Reaper: Jolie, Female Scribe

Hello! This is my first year participating in the painting challenge, although I have watched others participate for years. For my first post, I thought something winter-y would be nice, so I picked Jolie from my Reaper stash. Since it took me 8 days to post, I am realizing that I will have to pick up the pace.

Scale: 28mm

Mfg: Reaper Miniatures

Product: 02835: Jolie, Female Scribe

Material: Metal

Jolie is likely to turn unsuspecting visitors to icicles...

Writing small words on the book was easier than i suspected.

The base was made from Sculpy clay and a Green Stuff World roller. Making bases with these rollers is very fun!

The accessories in the back could have more detail. Something to work on for next time.

First off Deborah, welcome to the Painting Challenge.

This is a superbly painted figure. I really like your choice of colours and your brush control for her facial features is terrific (the eyes are amazing). I also like your bespoke base, especially the ring of frost around Jolie - a very nice effect (I say 'nice' when it is currently -44 C here with the wind chill).

I'm going to mark this one down for 'Sarah's Choice' as I'm sure she'll be very impressed with it.

7 points for your debut on the roster, which includes a few more for your customizations. Lovely work and again, welcome to the Challenge Deborah.
