From DavidB: Taking a walk...(148 points)

Finally all is almost done...except here I am still typing...apologies to Curt or the Minion still editing!

Up first is a MULE truck from Mantic Games. It is supposed to be used by the corporate marines, but this one is going to 5150 New Hope City or any other Scifi skirmish game as a new civilian whip or bad guy technical. This was airbrushed with a metallic blue and will first be used by my new Goliath gang at Adepticon for racing in the desert...The Blue Bloods stole it from the Up-Hivers.

all wheel drive with armored cabin with sporty orange stripes.

tailgate with stairs and extra seating with aircooled seats

A lone Cadian 7th Cav bannerman for scale.

He was a test figure to see how fast I could paint a 7th cav with speed paints and other new techniques. It turns out very fast as in less than an hour including acrylic highlights and detail.

These three were found in the leadpile and are now ready to wreck havoc with an Inquisitor.

They took full advantage of all the red and black paint left over during color changes.

A couple of Rogue Physkers for old Necromundia now to be used in almost any game and campaign.

Also a wiz kids steel golem dog with an added admech back pack. A 40k Cadian novel had a commander with a robotic K-9 given to him from a techpriest. He will be a good boy to have with my Cadians or a close combat servitor for an Inquisitor.

A Cyberpunk gang from Monster Fight Club that is based on likeness from the Project Red Team.

The bases are heavily weathered and like the rest of my adhoc groups, the waited to get colors from wet pallet color changes.
And this guy....Two weeks and the last two and half days.

This is how he looked this morning. The armored skeleton is vallejo color shift metal paint and goes from a navy blue to purple as the light shifts around him. The red panels where airbrushed from purple to orange. and the white panels were brought up from a mid grey. The grey body went from a dark grey to light then the speed paint grey from army painter was used as a wash....This was completed Sat morning then he was based after this photo.
While the base dried on the Knight... a quick gaslands rat-rod

Vallejo olive green paints a triad for air then detail was picked out

I used the "dry" GW dawnstone for a drybrush of dust on the bottom for weathering.

Speaking of weathering.....

about 3.5 feet of barricades from GW resin.

brown, green and grey airbrush work as a test for airbrushing terrain. They got detailed and weathered as I waited for bits to dry on the titan including the gluing as it was all sub-assemblies.

Also completed today was this M577 for the coldwar duel. This is a solid chunk of resin airbrushed in the traitor planetary defense force camouflage of my traitor guard force.

" a nod to Greg"

Its original purpose was target identification model for military forward observers, field artillery, scouts, etc...

The M577 was intended as a command post vick. It did not last long as it is a pain to work in and set up and there is not enough room for everyone needed. Most commanders just used AFV or military trucks or even tanks(rank has privileges) As most commanders use a radio and like to see what their company/ regiment/battalion is doing the big all info TOCS are not on the front line and radio and movement is all the capable commanders need. American forces still have a few, but they are maintenance vehicles that are found in tanker and artillery units and still rare. NATO and some other countries still have them in service and some even use them as command vehicles although most NATO countries use them as the Americans do as a mobile garage repair.

Finally done as of 2100 Sunday night.

I will glue the hatch on as it will be forever lost if not placed. I could have built it open, but we all know the hatch would break off in the first battle. but the cockpit is entirely painted because I'm a masochist.

I will glue in the crusader helm, but I really dig the optics on the knight. If I get another kit, it will have a damaged helmet exposing the optics.

Sir Hekhtur of the Canis Rex. I'm pretty sure he is lugging an Imperium Approved boom-box for blasting songs like Golden Earring's "Radar Love" as he stomps around the battlefield.

He is all complete now except for decals which I am going to dread...I will watch some videos and get some cheat chemicals before I attempt to finish that part up!

The end of the effort from the challenge and the last 2.5 days. The titan, the tank, the car, and the barricades are all 50-75% airbrushed so I now have 2 points in my duel which is several to short to catch Lee and Curt! but thanks for spuring me on to use the tools. I have to get some killteam terrain done soon before Razor gets back from deployment. I learned a lot of airbrush tips like consistency and spray bottle airbrush cleaner between color changes and always mix small portions of paint in the cup. I also found out to keep your airbrush wet in a sonic cleaner( don't have one yet) or a tupperware container with distilled water mixed with 1/4 of airbrush cleaner... Of the tupperware, ask permission from the wife first before you abscond with a container....just a FYI!

And this is how I fuel myself for painting....music and coffee.

Mule truck- 20 points
40k troops- 7 for 35 and 23 skulls
cyberpunk project red- 5 for 25 points
gaslands car- 8 points
M577- 20 points and  4 skulls
barricades for 10 points (1/2 cube) and 18 skulls
and one knight titan for 20 points plus 10 for the pilots and 2 skulls

148 points and 47 skulls. sideduels skull duel is 697 skulls, 2 points for the airbrush, and the coldwar duel...Dave won, but my M577 is pretty cool!

It was a lot of fun this time. Big thank you to Curt and Lady Sarah for the opportunity to play and the minions (Including Tamsin and Miles) for the extra work. There was a lot of sweet miniature eye-candy this year. Hopefully I won't be too distracted at Adepticon and will keep to planned purchases! I don't think there will be any Turnips though as my wife is already irritated at the purloined tupperware. I have to replace those containers first!

Dave, your last-minute industry is truly amazing, my friend. There is so much to admire here, from the MULE truck to the stonking Knight, but I think I have to say that my favourites are the Cyberpunk crew and the planetary defence M577, with the 'Horus Lives' tag. Genius. Greg would love that. :)

It's always great to have you with us David. Personally, I'm very happy that you're on 'civvy street', keeping out of trouble, painting toys for you and your kids. 'This is the way.' :)

From DaveD - Bootleggers Barn (44 points)

A little extra left field entry this week. Myself , MartinC and JamesM will be at the Hammerhead show this coming weekend. As all the games are participation we wanted something nice and quick to run , so we decided on a little bootleggers scenario.

The gang has a hidden still and storage place in the back woods - the G men will raid it . It will be quick and brutal I am sure . Martin recently completed a still for this . So I have built the barn this week from balsa, coffee stirrers and cardboard it’s on a 2mm MDF a4 base board .

Damn that’s the infamous Ray “the Badger” in his trademark yellow run away trousers - he must be out of Sing Sing - it’s so long since this  collection had some love .

The still will be installed by Martin into the barn .

I used the airbrush to paint and weather up the wood - followed by a bit of dry brushing .

Size wise it’s 12x8x5 so equals 2.22 cubes . = 44 points .

The other building was built back in 2014 as part of the challenge then . So the gangsters will need their eyes sharp - wakey wakey Ray . The G men are ready to pounce.

I hear that fink Ray wears those yellow pants 'cos he sang like a canary when he was in Sing Sing. Sold out the whole budgie smuggling ring.

That's a great looking barn, Dave!

From DaveD - the BUFF and the chickens (207 points)

Keeping Tuesday Turnip Free! I have enlisted the help of General Cheeseburger .

And what better to make roast vegetables than one of these bad boys - a B52 or a Big Ugly Fat F****r Carrying 30 tons of destruction. Oh this is a big boy.

So big I had take it outside to get proper pictures !

Biggest decals I’ve ever worked on - at least they were decent quality . Nice big 2nd Airforce markings on the tail

It’s painted up in South East Asia camo . With a black underside and tail .

Yes this is true madness - a B52 in 1/72nd - I had to compromise from 1/48th  in the end .I picked up the kit on  eBay with some bits missing hence it was cheaper than normal . I had to make the transparency for the cockpit from bits of yoghurt pot etc . Its a 32 inch wingspan , 28 inches long and 6 inches high . About the size of 12 normal 1/72nd fighter kits . Or if we apply the rule of Ken and multiply lots who knows how many points this is  ! So I will leave that with Tamsin to work out points .I certainly used a lot of paint through the airbrush !

Cue Major Kong - is that a major root vegetable site down there?

I might just have to throw it off the shed roof to “to destroy” it .

Now what’s it for I hear you say . Well it’s for Nam , but not obviously as flying playing model - the flight stand would be worth all the challenge points in the world on its own . Well I have two options at the moment . Having dug around there is scenario fodder in that while these were based in Thailand the VC did do some commando raids , destroying some other aircraft on the ground  . That will all look cool, so  I have the wheels kept separate to use for that if need be . The other option which I had originally intended is to wreck it up into multiple parts to make table dressing and for scenario fodder for special ops etc . This is the most likely next step , but for now it’s left complete as can be .Time to raise the communist airforce - or a least a SAM2 battery or 7  .

Just to prove what a bonkers week it has been at the paint table - here is the opposition air force .

Now we go from the ridiculous to the other end of the scale - here we have 40 x 28mm chickens . Pendraken has a great range of animals (Link) in a range of scales and these are just the thing to have running around the villages . Now I’m not sure there is category they fit in at 28mm - as 200 points at 5 per chicken is a great bonus! So again I will leave these to Tamsin . I won’t count the chickens to Never Ending Cold War .

That is a totally bonkers model, Dave! I think you need to get yourself a second one though to do as wreckage - that way you can still do both scenarios you mentioned.

Now for the scoring. There is a precedent for 28mm chickens - set by me, I think...ahh, yes, here's the post linky-link. They got scored as 2 points for a base of three chooks plus one chick so let's say 27 points for your 40 chickens (13x3x2 = 26, plus one for the 40th bird).

As for the B52, I'm not sure I should really be the minion setting precedent for scoring huge models, given that I'm working on a huge 28mm spaceship. Nevertheless, I'm happy to go with it being the equivalent of twelve 20mm vehicles as you suggest.

From DavidB: Under Construction part-2 (120 points)

Like all sequels, this is a continuation of last week as I wrangled with the airbrush and fought for room on my hobby desk as my squirrel brain just gets distracted too often from minis at hand to minis in boxes.
Last year I was knee deep in white scars and iron snakes so this epic is a bit more than a trilogy. I had a few white scars left over as I only had them mostly base coated after the last AHPC ended. Since they were only nine, I will only count every third of the following.

The White Scars now have a Capt, another Lt, Blade Guard, outriders, and a company ancient with banner.

I used a very watered down pale blue to set the wings on the relic banner from the white scar armor as he really looked very white after I cleaned up his armor with some corax white and P3 white.

I also went darker khaki on the purity seals and went up to a parchment color to keep the seals from being too close in hue to armor.

Soooo many skulls on these guys. I seen some 30k elite terminators for the white scars that used black on their armor and so all the robes were painted black in reference. This was P3 coal black with a highlight of P3 denim then glazed with Black templar contrast paint. The red leather was flesh tearer contrast paint glazed over a mid brown highlighted with tan previously.

The bases are just asphalt craft paint and astrogranite texture paint weathered with rust and grime then a few clumps of valhalan blizzard scattered to look like melting snow.

The outriders had the valhalan blizzard delicately forcibly rubbed in the tire treads
The shoulder and bike white scar icons are from Pop goes the monkey and installed after the challenge began.
while base coating them last year, I played a little with markings for some reason, I kept them, but may re-coat them white later as I'm not convinced the markings are needed.
This trio was a Christmas gift from my daughter last year, built, customized and now freshly painted...very fresh She is still distressed that I already have an outrider squad as she wanted them to be something I didn't have. I will say these are from the first wave of individual boxed outriders separate from the game. They are the same mono pose kit though. To make them stand out I bought a white scar upgrade sprue and delicately  brutally hacked away their sculpted shoulder pads to fit the white scar ones.

I also used all three white scar heads, but all of them have helmets nearby.

I used a spare sgt helmet for this outrider who has it mag-locked to his bike.

I added some knives also as you can never have enough blades.

They also have snow impacted into the treads and wedged where the tires may through the slush on the bike. I did not spend much time on the bases as I really can't see any of these bikes sitting still( at least until Razor starts smashing them)

The White Scars also got a Gladius tank tooled up to wreak dreadnauts and other armored vehicles.

Over a black primer is six shades of grey and white shot through the airbrush. Unfortunately the camera hides the nice fade on the panels. I did shoot contrast white on the sides and shadow areas which adds to the pure white of the top surfaces.

All red lights were highlighted to yellow to separate them from the red trim.

The icons are also from Pop goes the Monkey.
The White Scars still have a few units left, I hope to get started on them soon, but there are a lot of further units needed so you may be seeing more this year or next.

A stormtalon gunship to counter Razor's storm ravens and their airdrops of terminators and dreadnaughts. I may get another two or three of them.
From a black undercoat I went up to a pale blue focusing the color changes with the airbrush on the upper parts of the model.I did not keep track of the colors used, so that will be fun to figure out on other flyers.

The airbrush did get the NMM effect I wanted for the Iron Snakes, I should've treated all of the Iron Snake models in this fashion, but they were a painting experiment and I like the cold raw brown armor of the infantry models. Although the blue metal is the look I wanted for them, I will only treat the vehicles to this hue.

I free-handed the number and icon last night and really should have used a pencil first as the wing icon is not centered, but I will let it stand for now.

The I really like the look of this craft especially the all business face of the model, very very A-10ish air-support(CAS)!

The pilot and cockpit were fully painted, you can see the more brown armor on the pilot.

I always intended on using green on the glass as it replicates the green used on the Iron Snakes helmet lenses. The canopy is now glued in place, so these photos are the only evidence of the completed interior.

The Terminus Ultra is a Land Raider devised by the Ultramarines when repelling a tyranid invasion of Ultramar. Transport capacity is sacrificed for the batteries required to power eight lascannons. The termius ultra is only available "now" to ultra marines and is only found in the Lords of War detachment as a chapter artifact. Iron Snakes being an Ultra Marine successor should have one, and since mine are all primaris marines which cannot use a land raider for transport, They should have plenty of batteries laying around.

This was painted in tandem with the storm talon and the Icon is also pop goes the monkey but in the form of Iron Snakes storm shields.

One lone tail light, In addition to the other small details, I picked out every light and small detail with brush as this is a chapter artifact an worthy of the additional detail.

This has fought a few times and Razor does not like it to exist too long in the game as it kills stuff dead. I indicated the Iron Snakes lineage with the banner, but it will be updated with kills from Razor's Blood Angel army. (so far 5 baal predators, 26 terminators, and 7 dreadnaughts)

Crotalinae is the Latin name for the pit-viper family of snakes.

soooo many lights.

Iron Snakes are completed( no more in the house)White Scars still have a few to go. I did finally get a score on the airbrush side duel better than 0 but am still behind. I haven't finished the necromunda part of the post, but that may happen later or in another post. for Now I am going to ponder a ride in Lady Sarah's acid green limo into the next zone and maybe see if I can pound out a few more studio films.

Outrider squad 1- 3 marines and 7 skulls for 10 points
Blade guard- 3 marines with 34 skulls for 5 points
Captain- 1 marine with 13 skulls
lieutenant- 1 marine with 12 skulls
company ancient- 1 marine with 12 skulls
Outrider squad 2- 3 marines with 11 skulls for 30 points
Gladius- 7 skulls for 20 points
Storm Talon- 5 skulls for 20 points
Terminus Ultra- 14 skulls for 20 points
Only counting every third model in the the older white scars gives a total of 110 points for the studio with studio points being claimed last week. 115 skulls for this week bring the skull pile to 374 skulls.

Friday Minion: Gosh David, you're back AGAIN? Isn't it about time you took a week off or something?

Nah just kidding, I'm super glad you're here to pad the stats of the Friday crew, and save me from being embarrassed on their behalf.

Thanks for the points tally, I'm going to add an extra 5 for the pilot and cockpit in the stormtalon, and another 5 for the conversion work to make the outriders your daughter got you special.

I was always fond of the White Scars, definitely one of the cooler chapters, my brother made some way back when. They're way superior than Dork Angels Ravenwing, who take themselves way too seriously (note to the 40K lore nerds here: my lore knowledge is probably two decades out of date).

That Terminus Ultra though, now that's evidence of GW totally jumping the shark. I love me a lascannon as much as the next person, but really?! THAT many?! I'd hate to see their electricy bill after charging those up.
