From BrianC: A couple of dogs, Romans, I-Kore Minis(VOID), a HUGE Rumbleslam mini and a druid (160pts)

Hello! I was able to turn in one more entry before the deadline! WooHoo! Okay, I'll be quick!

Here are some Warlord Games Imperial Romans(20) 

Here are some really old minis from I-Kore (VOID). I was trying to go for a Cyberpunk agent/police look. Oh well, either way, they will be used for some kind of Sci-Fi miniature game. Ha!

I finished the last member of the Rumbleslam Human wrestling team! This dude is a 54mm miniature!

This challenge motivated me to finish this team:

Okay, next is a couple of Bolton's dogs from Game of Thrones.

Lastly, a Warlord Games Celtic Druid. I would like to enter this mini in Dante's Paradise Fourth Sphere: The Wise. They were looked upon as a wise man or sage in their tribe. They toss the bones and look to the stars and teach lessons from experience.

Maybe under the wire, but still excellent work Brian. That's a terrific unit of Early Imperial Romans (like stormtroopers and Napoleonic French, you can never have too many). Those VOID figures take me waaay back so it's great to see them getting some due attention. Can't go wrong with some doggos. But my favourite has to be the Celtic Druid figure. I really like his beard and staff (great groundwork too).

From MikeF - Shiver, Splicer, Cyborg Exo-Suit - 20 Points

 I completed three more models for exploit zero. These include a psychic character called a ‘shiver’, a hacker character called a ‘splicer’, and a character in a cyborg war suit. The shiver is from Northstar Military Figures Stargrave range. The splicer is a 3-D print and is wearing a special bodysuit covered in wires, allowing him to hack into computer systems and control a variety of drones. The cyborg exo-suit doesn’t contain much biological material anymore, other than the head, and everything else has been replaced with a heavy war suit armed with a large machine gun and a power saw. It seems odd that the figures head is sticking out from the torso without a helmet, but I’m fairly certain the brain is nowhere inside that skull and is merely there to allow for a more “human” interface. The brain is likely contained in the armoured cylinder on the back of the model. This figure is from Seb games in their Void line of miniatures.

Great additions! But I wonder if Shiver is really doing a psyker thing, or just trying to remember where he left his car keys (that pose looks rather familiar to me...)

I've counted the chunky Exo-Suit as Cavalry for 10 points, the others are 5pts each for a 28mm fig

From StuartL - Dashing Through Section 3 - Gift Shop, Art, Nature and Library Cart - 175 Points

Hello all,

    Work has really been hitting me hard this week (and will for the next few weeks at least), so I haven't been able to get an awful lot of painting done. I was able to knock out a few entries for the Challenge Library though, so I'm mainly relying on bonus points to do most of the heavy lifting this week.

    To begin with, I have an entry for the Gift Shop. In early February last year, my wife found some hedgehog shaped garden ornaments that she wanted me to paint up for her, which I did in my entry for the Gift Shop last year, here. Since then, she has been back to the same store repeatedly to see if they had anymore of the same ornaments. The shop had other pieces in the same style, but not hedgehogs (which she adores). After 10 months of fruitless searching, the store finally restocked one of the two ornaments, so my wife immediately bought it and gave it to me along with detailed instructions for the colour scheme. 

Tyrant's Legion troops stand valiantly against the rampaging xenos beast.

    I painted this in the same style as last year, mainly applying a wash over the top and then wiping over the top with a piece of paper to pick up the majority of the wash. The eyes, nose, ears and feet were all painted in normally.

        With the quick stop to the gift shop out of the way, I need to move over to the Art section, so here is a mini from the old, old, old game Void to pay for my trip on Sarah's Library Cart.

    For the Art section, I decided to go for some Street Art. As I am in the process of trying to build up a collection of scatter terrain for all of the games/genres I play, I have been asking a friend of mine to print some odds and ends on his 3d printer. I don't know where he got this file from to be honest, but it came out looking great. 

    As I want to use this in cyberpunk themed games, I went for bright vivid colours, using a garish blue alongside a bright pink.

    And here is a shot with last week's Blade Runner for scale.

    Moving swiftly along, it's time for a trip over to Nature and therefore a mini is required for the cart once more.

    A second Void mini pays handily for my trip. The Void range is quite simple, which makes them quick to paint up. There are loads of female sculpts in the range which is ideal when you are scrambling for as many bonus points as possible. 

    Over in the Nature section of the library, it is time for more scatter terrain, in this case quite a large terrain item from Reaper.

    This tree and the attached prisoner are from one of Reaper's many Bones Kickstarters that I backed. The tree is a lovely piece of kit and is very detailed. The tree is attached to a CD for the base to give it some sturdiness on the table.

    If you look closely at the foot of the tree you will notice some skulls hidden there.

    Finally, I need to jump across the library to the Literature section, ready for next week's entry (I hope). So one final trip on Sarah's Library Cart and one final Void mini.

    And just so that I'm not accused of blatantly abusing the bonus points system, I have painted one other model this week. 

    This centaur is another Reaper Bones mini. I hope to put it on the table this weekend. This Sunday is my gaming group's monthly gaming day, and I am planning to run some more playtest games for the skirmish system I am working on. This fiery haired fellow is going to be a commander for one of the forces I'm taking along.

And on to the scores.

From Millsy: The world needs more hedgehogs! Pam Ayres was a big fan and that's always a good endorsement. Lovely to see you looking after your significant other Stuart. The VOID minis are really well done and will be great for any number of sci-fi games. I have a few and always wanted more but they were not easy to get down under. The pick of bunch for me is the centaur who looks wonderful with his ginger hair and Norse vibe, I hope he wasn't too much trouble to paint with the Bones plastic. 175 more Challenge shekels for you matey!

From StuartL - Into the Void Once More - Lady Sarah's Limousine - 75 Points

Hello again,

To continue my exploration of the AHPC Challenge Studios, GmbH., it is time for another trip in Lady Sarah's Limousine. Once again, I will be offering a miniature from the Void range as payment, and this time heading to the Historical Drama area.

This is another marine from the VASA faction of the game. Void was ahead of its time in offering mixed units of men and women, but still a bit behind the times in terms of design. The men are generally in shooting or action poses, but the women are in more of a 'posing' pose.

As I used the same design of figure for my last trip, I thought I should show you both side by side to prove that I didn't just repaint the skin and call it a day. This brings me to the last of my painted Void figures, so I am going to have to start looking around for more female minis if I hope to continue enjoying the luxury of the limo service.

And to help fill up this post, I also painted up a bunch of Arabian troops for Saga.

These ten figures are a mix of Gripping Beast plastic and Black Tree Designs metal minis. The two ranges scale pretty well together and the BTD figures will help break up the monotony of the 5 poses in the GB figures in my force. 

For historical figures like this, I tend to go for three colours for a force and repeat them for the main items of clothing, in this case their robes and their turbans. This helps to give a slightly uniform look to the force on the table, while still making them look like a bunch of individuals. I haven't done much with the shields, so I may revisit them when I have had time to look up some suitable designs.

So for scoring:

11x 28mm infantry = 55 Points

Lady Sarah's Limousine = 20 Points

Total = 75 Points.

From StuartL - A Smattering of Side Duels - Lady Sarah's Limousine - 182 Points

It seems that I have some catching up to do in my various side duels, so hopefully this post will help me catch up after taking an involuntary week off.

First of all, I have some additions for the Turnip28 side duel.

These two models are 'Toadies', the somewhat talentless junior officers in my growing Turnip28 army.  To signify their lofty rank, the duo are sporting the largest headgear they could find. There will be no mistaking them for the rank and file. The two figures are converted from Perrys WotR minis with a few extra growths added. The toady in red has a head from a British Napoleonic Hussar and arms from some Victrix British Infantry. The other model is all from the Perrys WotR kit. To make the growths, I driller a couple of holes in his back and inserted two short bits of wire. I then covered the wire with Vallejo Plastic Putty, adding a small amount to the shoulder of the other toady too.

Every good commander knows that artillery is the king of the battlefield and that is true in Turnip28 too. (I guess). So, I converted what is known as a Stump Gun.

The gun and most of it's carriage comes from a ship's cannon by Firelock games. The wheels and the ammo box were some spares I had in my bits box from some previous project or other. Finally, the crewman is more Victrix parts with some wire and putty growths on his back.

For scoring for the Turnip Side Duel, I have 25 Turnip Points. 

I have previously scored a Squirrel point for Turnip28, so these models don't add anything to that duel.

I am also entered into the Skullz Duel, so time to add some noggins to my tally. 

These terrain pieces are all from Reaper's Bones line. The two columns above stand about 7cm tall and feature small panels at the base packed with skulls and then a ring of skulls up near the top.

There are about 19 skulls on average in each of the inset panels. All of the terrain pieces here were painted in black and then given lighter and lighter drybrushes of grey. I added some brown wash to add some variety. In the case of one of the pillars below, I added some rose bushes to brighten it up a bit.

Of these pieces, the small, square piece in the centre has a skull on each of its 4 sides, while the central pillar has 2 skulls on each of its 3 sides.

So, in total this should add 178 skullz to my tally. Not bad for a days work. Points wise, these are nowhere near being even a small percentage of a challenge terrain cube, so I leave it up to my minion to score them. For scale purposes, the statue holding the shield is the same size as a 28mm figure, plus the plinth.

And that should bring me on to the Squirrel Duel. 

First, a squad of 5 WW2 Japanese infantry from Warlord Games. These will be added to my Bolt Action army for the battles of Imphal and Kohima.

Next we have a brood of 5 Genestealers for Warhammer 40,000. There are rumours that Tyranids will be getting new models in the starter box of the next edition of 40K, so I wanted to get some of my older Nid models done.

Some battle-worn Tau, also for Warhammer 40,000. I quite like the Tau minis, but find their usual bright colours to not really fit the grimdark aesthetic very well. So, I have opted for simple colours and lots of weathering on the armour.

And finally 5 Teutonic crossbowmen for Saga. These models are all from Fireforge Games. They are quite simple figures to build and paint. I still have loads more to do before I have enough for a game though.

So there we have 4 more Squirrels for my scoresheet.

And finally, I need to pay up for another trip in Lady Sarah's Limousine. I intend to head over to the Casting Couch for next week's entry, so I have another model from VOID, this time one of the lovely ladies from the VASA range.

Just noticed that line of paint on her shoulder. I'll have to paint over that.

And that brings me to the end of the post, so it is time to tally up the scores.
