From DaveD - Sudan , Kordofani and commanders - 400 pts

One of the supposed projects for this challenge was the Sudan Nile tribes for a commission job , these have been a bit of a background project . I have completed the guns for this lot earlier in the challenge . This lot makes up a lot of the command and skirmishers . 

They are based as open loose skirmishers with captured rifles and then as a closer mob style but various size of bases - the bigger the base more men obviously . Plus 3 mounted emirs . 

These are all Perry stuff a mix of plastics and metals , the flags from The Armchair General 

I had wanted to get the other half  done shown below  - but I guess that’s next weeks job ! Bolsheviks kind of got in the way 😁

I’m not finished yet posts on the production line.

Those Dervish hordes look like they mean business Dave, great work here.  The mass of foot is effective, I like the variable base sizes.  I can't get a close look at most, but that command stand is mighty fine indeed.  I'll look forward to Bolshie hordes to follow.

From Ians, 10mm Mahdist, 355points

Hi All last scheduled post of the challenge and something slightly different. I plan well ahead for each challenge and have been collecting and printing figures all year. In July the family went on holiday to visit Hadrians wall and while there i was working on what figures i would need for Haradarim army in 10mm. I decided to get a couple of packs or Madhist from Pendraken and only when my son joined us from Middlesbourgh did i realise that was where they were based. So we decided to pop in to their shop to pick up the figures. The figures were just what i wanted so i asked for loads more packets, the answer was we have no more in stock, followed by if you can wait for 15 minutes we can cast them for you. Now that is customer service. Unfortunately i did not check figure sizes with the ones i was printing and as the Hadarhim army was the last i planned to do for the challenge i was stuck. So i have always fancied armies for the Sudan so i have used the figures for what they were orginal designed for. First up are 8 bases of 5 cavalry figures all pemdraken figures

Next the Ansar foot, they are a mixture of Pendraken and some printed figures from the Henry Tudor Sudan range. 13 bases of melee troops each of 10 figures

Now my favourite units the Beja or if you are a Dads Army fan the often mentioned by corpral Jones as the Fuzzy Wuzzies. 7 Bases of melee troops each 10 figures

So total points for Madhist 235 x 10mm infantry at 1pt each = 235pts 40 x 10mm cavalry at 3pts each = 120pts Total 355pts

From DaveD . Mahdists - an excellent choice sir . Great to hear of your positive experience at Pendraken . I think I might have made those for you . Lovely work on this lot . You have had a great challenge and all that planning has certainly paid off.

From DaveD - Guns for the Khalifa (113 points)

Here we have an artillery park for the Khalifa . This is part of an ongoing commission for Sudan figures - I may have painted a few in my time 😆. These will be used in an upcoming Kreigspielers campaign this summer and it’s made up of collection of random old guns and the Perry captured Egyptian gunners .

Two casualty figure bases with two figures on , and a “marksman” for the prone ones 

There is an enormous bombard which is 3d printed. I have made a pile off ammunition for it using 10mm ball bearings . The others are older muzzle loaders from the Pendraken 28mm ranges . 

There are also some single command figures and some markers

Have you painted any figures for the Sudan previously? I just can't recall...

Lovely stuff Dave - I particularly enjoy the bombard. It looks suitably impressive, loud and unsafe for its crew. 

Points wise, I have a slight adjustment, as the spreadsheet tells me this Khalifa Kannonade should work out to 113 points. And I lose all of the arguments with the spreadsheet. So that's 113 points for you!

From RichardM - The Sudan and a few others from AHPC XV

As I have said previously, a huge thank you to Curt and Sarah for the Challenge, our small group who meet for a paint and chat on Tuesdays, Millsy as our minion and chat organiser and all of you who commented on my posts and gave me so much encouragement.  Also to the others participating, whose posts served as constant inspiration.  

I have managed to get all of the Sudan forces done during the Challenge onto the table - but unfortunately there is not sufficient room to lay them out ‘in action’. 

To cover that, I have put a few photos further down showing a set of action shots taken around the mid-point of the Challenge.  

There are also two photos of the Sassanid Persian units done at the beginning of the Challenge.  

And if you’re not bored / asleep by the time you reach them, I have also dropped some photos of my favourite units painted for the Sudan during the Challenge.

So firstly, this is all of the Sudan painted in the Challenge on the table.

From RichardM - One last trip around the Mahdists with the big man himself (146 points)

Early this week when I saw how close I was to 3,000 points I delved back into the box and pulled out a number of other figures to get me over the magic number.  Nothing in the number other than it is a number and a quiet challenge I had set myself once I passed my 'official' target.

At the same time I thought I would take the opportunity to do a base for the big man himself - so here is my interpretation of the Mahdi.

While still 10mm Pendraken figures, this time the three mounted figures are from their Ottoman range.  The Mahdi and the camel kettle drummer (I have no idea if they used kettle drums :) ) looked fine straight from the bag.  But if you look close enough you may notice the Mahdi's personal flag holder has an Ottoman Bork on his head.  The two foot figures are from the Sudan range and have appeared in many of my Mahdist foot units.  

For the flags, I have tried to do an interpretation (because of size) of images in an article in The Mahdist Wars Source Book by The Virtual Armchair General.  The green flag on the mounted figure is described as the Mahdi's personal flag which was captured in 1899 at Um Diwaykarat where the Khalifa was killed.  The flag being held by the foot figure is based on one that is on display at the Khalifa's house in Omdurman and was captured in the Battle of Omdurman (again from the Source book).

Then the bulk of the points that will get me over 3,000 come from these two mounted units.  Both are further bases for unit types already seen in the challenge. 

I have finished off the Mahdist light cavalry with these 20 figures spread over four bases.

Then I have more Mahdist camels with five bases of 25 figures.  Previous camels were done in the white jibbah with their coloured patches and this time I used more earthy tones similar to those I used on the Hadendowah and Nile River Arabs.

The points work out at:

Mahdi command stand - 3 * 10mm mounted and 2 * foot  = 11 points

Light Cavalry - 20 * 10mm mounted = 60 points

Camels - 25 * 10mm mounted = 75 points

Total = 146 points

Wow, fabulous work Richard. You've had a terrific Challenge.  I have to say that whenever I've looked at these figures of yours I'm often tricked into thinking that they are a larger scale. The Mahdi looks suitably imposing and the two units of cavalry are very impressive (especially the camels). Magnificent brushwork sir. I look forward to your Challenge wrap-up to see all the work you've done.
