Another painting challenge complete, a big thank you to Curt and Sarah for hosting a fine event this year, the last rapid fire event felt like a blur, with posts every 15 mins or so on Friday night. A big thanks to the minions, as I was in two time zones several times I missed the cut off by a day either side…..

Bryon Bay bit of the holiday 

I set a very modest goal this year of 600 points as I knew I would be on holidays skipping the European winter. This winter we were Australia for two months laying around a pool relaxing over the challenge. I did not reach my goal for points this year as the holiday homes and hotels had no where really suitable to paint….. well that’s my excuse. On the home front I finally moved into my painting room and I think in six weeks the chateau renovation on the third floor will be finally complete (painting, fabric wall insulation, then decor happening for the coming five weeks) which will mean my library will finally be back in place and my hobbit hole will get a rebuild. 

We are taking bookings for 2026  at Wargames holidays/ L’Hotel de Hercé . We have 21 tours and 60 Battlefeild sites locally from Caesar to ww2. 

On the painting front, my desk looks like a bomb zone when I commenced cleanup yesterday about 4 projects did not make it to the Final Cut, 4 hours packing stuff away into project drawers and I will compete a few pieces this week …. For the 16th challenge really happy with my 20 odd Judge Dredd additions including some early figures from the Citadel 80s collection, LOTR, Napoleonic, ACW and ww2 pieces.

A bit slack over the last week with too much opportunity on the deck and not completing much! 

First up completed some 1/600th renaissance galleys 

Then completed some skirmish figures. First up and old Paranoia Citadel figure from the 80s, “the blue trooper” painted up as as a block riot control for my Judge Dredd collection. 

Finally 3 figures for Tomorrow’s War futuristic skirmish game, two are crusader and the single I think is Infinity?

Five 1/600th galleys @3  = 15 points

Wow, what a blast from the past! We played a lot of Paranoia back in the day and really enjoyed it. Such a fun game and so far removed from anything else we played. I never had any miniatures for it though. Your miniature really suits the Judge Dredd vibe, so much though I do wonder if that was where the inspiration for the sculptor came from.

Your galleys are especially nice, really crisp lines and great colour choices. Will you add sails and if so made from what?

From JohnS - Dwarfy Goodness - 60 Points

I stagger away from Historicals this week, back to fantasy. Dwarfs have been calling my name.

We have another Oathmark game coming up on Sunday so I have been inspired to add a dozen more Dwarfs to my Kingdom.

These four are more of the Kev Adams resin dwarfs I picked up a few years back.

I think they are fantastically characterful sculpts and take me back to the 90s when "Doofs" became my go to army in WHFB.

These four are actual Oathmark miniatures from Northstar Figures. I have the king too but he was painted pre-Challenge so remains temporarily banished!

They are slightly taller and slimmer than The big-headed KA dwarfs but there is room for all the Dwarfy types in my Kingdom.

I have gone with a "Dark Ages" feel with these guys, using some LBMS shield transfers on some figures.

These last four are from my "random dwarf" selection. The bald guy on the left is a Kev Adams I think, the pick wielder is a Citadel mini but I am not sure of the makers of the two right hand figures.

I particularly like the spearshaft as is is wrapped in wire like every good workman's quick repair of a broken tool.

Another fun week of painting, and chatting. Back to historicals next week. Probably.

PS I have started playing around with "flocked" movement trays for Oathmark, this is my first try using a Renedra movement tray.

More swagger than stagger if you ask me. These are jolly good John! I particularly like your choice of shield motifs. The norse theme really suits the character of the miniatures and your painting style.

I have quite a few of the same sculpts in my Oathmark dwarf army and they really are a joy to paint. One of the joys of Oathmark is the ability to mix a range of figures in a unit which you've done superbly.

Great stuff and a well earned 60 gold added to your tally mate.

From JohnB: The Sinews of War Continues! 3No. 1/72 scale CMP trucks (45points)

I have been busy painting during this challenge and while not making models, my weekly offering has been sidetracked because I chose to do this years THREE BONUS THEMES. I have now completed the three bonus themes and posted them. First - Empire - Hungarians 1848 1/72 Hat figures.

Second - Toy Story - Duke of Berwicks Irish Regiment (wild geese) from the back cover of "Charge or how to play wargames" These were Strelets 1/72 Austrians (from War of the Spanish Succession) figures

Third - Rebels - Tumbling Dice 1/72 ECW Scots Covenanters - Colonel de Bois Regiment of Foot

I had not realised that they get corralled away from the weekly posting. Anyway here is my next offering to the Tuesday Terrors which just happens to be more Sinews of War in the shape of another 3 trucks. Somewhere in deepest Fauxterre.......

This time they are 1/72 plastics from the Plastic Soldier Company. The CMP truck was according to the box blurb a chevrolet manufactured mostly in Canada for British Empire forces.

Now which way do we go??

The canvas covers, drivers and wooden bodywork got a sepia wash finish but otherwise the paints were used straight out the pot. Yet on this occasion instead of using my usual Vallejo paint selection out of the blue I dug out some of my old citadel paints - still going strong (these are pre 2012 era). And I do think the Knarloc Green is very suitable for these trucks.

Points wise I think I get 3 vehicles at 15 points each = 45 points in total and like all my submissions so far I think I can claim some squirrels as the earlier trucks were corgi toys models at 1/60 scale?

Well thats it for now - not sure what might appear next!

Sorry about the confusion on the Theme Rounds John, but yes they have their set days, own tab and are officiated by the Snow Lord.  I've left your photos for the next two rounds as teasers, and you are appealing to my old school heart on both counts.

I always like to see transport on table, and that's a great looking trio of soft targets that should be very useful.  I confirm the 45 points, but you'll have to taker the squirrel count up with the Squirrels Finder General.  I've tagged the post so that he can find it more easily.

 

From TeemuL: Terrain Storage pots (10 points)

I knew these looked familiar, but it took a while before I noticed what I was looking at. These plastic pieces were actually miniature versions of authentic Delmonteland storage pots! Thank you flu for clearing my head!

So I glued 10 of these on two MDF bases (pond bases from Warbases) and painted them look like ceramic contructs - it took several layers to achieve the not-painted-look on them. But I think they ended up looking just fine. I added some geometric art on them, paying close attention to designs and colour choices of native Delmonteland people.

These are of course two big to carry around, so they are more like permanent water storages, granaries, containers for blood orange juice and what else. Looking inside makes you feel you don't want even know...

Scoring is simple, Byron will use his magic formula and voila - the points appear! Thank you for your attention on these plastic models by Citadel/Games Workshop.

Hello Teemu,  These are a great little simple repurposed item that will add a lot of character to the table. I like the natural look you got to them, and I am not sure I want to know what they were storing in some of them from the strange colours in there, but it is a very nice touch.

Because they are fairly simple but have some painted patterns on them, I am going to award each of the 2 bases of them as about the time it would take to paint a standard figure, so 5 points per base for a total of 10 points.  Hopefully I am not too far off, and they do look lovely.

From DaveV: Even More Talisman Adventurers (Wrath) (35 Points)

 

Real life has a way of getting in the way of hobby related activities. That being said, my latest post for The Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge XV shows a couple more classic, pewter Talisman figures from Games Workshop/Citadel, released for the board game back in the 1980's.

Long out of production, a friend found this figure for me on eBay, from the U.K. When I got it, it had thick layers of green and yellow paint over unprimed metal. I used paint remover, white spirits, and gun cleaner to get 95% of this gunk off, revealing mould lines and bits of flash. I went at it with a hobby knife and diamond dust files. I dug into my bitz collection and added an old Citadel plastic heater shaped shield, the ones with the hole in the middle. Some gap filling super glue and work with sanding sticks got the figure finally ready for priming. 

As with my previous entries, I used zenithal highlights to base coat the figure. I sketched in the basic colours with acrylics, then added highlights, shadows, and blending with tube oil paints. 

After painting, the shield got some suitable Chaos decals, aided by decal solution and Future Floor Polish. The elongated skull is a Citadel Dark Elf transfer, IIRC; I thought it would complement all the skulls and faces sculpted in the Chaos Warrior's armour. The Chaos script comes from a sheet of Chaos iconography from The Mighty Brush. I then chipped and weathered the shield with oils. 

The “steel” part of the axe/mace thingy I painted in NMM style, attempting to render a patina of age. 

Some chainmail links are missing from the figure's right elbow. Thinking that this had to be intentional on the part of the sculptor, I added some GW Blood from the Blood God over flesh tones, to show a minor wound. 

The figure stands a little taller than the other Talisman figures, creating an imposing impression. Below, the Warrior of Chaos compared to the Knight. 

I based the figure on a hexagon base to also be usable for Steve Jackson Games' classic TTRPG, The Fantasy Trip. This Warrior of Chaos leading the Sorceress, Assassin, and Thief would make an interesting (and evil) TTRPG adventuring party. 

I also managed to finish the Talisman Centaur. It's a neat, single-piece model, painted in similar fashion to my other Talisman figs, with the horsey part basically successive thin glazes of GW washes over the zenithal highlights.  

I think this figure will make a good addition to the party I plan to run through the old TFT programmed adventure, the Treasure of the Silver Dragon. There are a lot of outdoor encounters in that module.  Below, the Elf, Prophetess, Knight, Warrior, and Centaur,

GW seems to have gotten their concept of Chaos from the fantasy works of Michael Moorcock. No matter which deity they worship, Chaos Warriors all seem to be bloody exemplars of Wrath.

Painting Challenge Totals:

(28mm figure + 28mm mounted figure) + Wrath = 15 + 20 = 35 points

What a load of prep work on the Chaos Warrior, but definitely worth the hard work.

My favourite though is the Centaur … the ‘horsey part’ is really well painted and I do enjoy the centaurs Mohawk-like mane
