From PaulSS - Barons' War foot soldiers and townsfolk and stuff! - 120pts

A mixed bag of Medieval goodies for you this week.

Firstly, the last of the Wargames Atlantic figures I have painted, only 11 remained and have made their way to the end of the production line this week.

Firstly a couple of missile-armed peasants, one with sling and one with bow. I'm quite surprised the arrow survived this far, this one has usually broken off by this stage!

Next up the last Knight and a pair of Serjeants.

A trio of peasants with pointy sticks for the militia and levies.

Finally the last three crossbowmen.

It's the last of the Wargames Atlantic for now and I don't see me buying any more until the new sets come out, then I'll be picking up again. But it's not the end of the Medievals, only yesterday postie bought some Medbury Miniatures 3D prints for me.

Adding to the Medieval scene is this market stall. The stall itself is from Victrix, as are many of the accessories, although the crates on the right and the bucket are from Bad Squiddo, while the wattle fence is Renedra.

Points wise, I think that the complexity would rate it as the equivalent of a vehicle.

I got down low and shone in a light for this warts and all view of some of the detail!

Victoria picked up for me some of the Medieval Vignettes from Athena Miniatures while we were at Fiasco a few months ago, they are nice enough subjects, but some of the figures are a bit rudimentary.

The first is a set of stocks with an unfortunate being pelted with rancid cabbages.

The barrel of cabbages is from TT Combat.

Thinking about this, I've not participated at all in the Skull Challenge this year, but I do already have 17 cabbages for the Cabbage Challenge this year!

Next is a baker from the artisan set, also comes with a rather nice oven.

The sacks and basket are from the Victrix set, while the bucket is a Bad Squiddo.

The next pair are a black smith and a cooper, the blacksmith is probably the weakest figure painted so far.

He could really use a forge!

Finally four other figures from the vignettes, a lady with a broom, a cobbler - will see use in a future Battle of Northampton game - a laughing merchant and a chap with his child on his shoulders.

Twenty 28mm figures, plus a "vehicle" will add another 120pts to the total.

From DaveD. Nice to see it are not fed up with earth hues so far . Yes I am surprised that arrow has survived. Good to hear you have some more planned too - the collection will be epic by the end . Brilliant vignette pieces being created too even if some the bits leave a bit to be desired as you say . The baker and oven set is wonderful .  I agree on the values , so 120 it is .

From PaulSS: Sir Henry de Hastings - 70pts

The yuk thug
This week I've not been so productive as we have been re-modelling the hobby room, but I have managed to scrape enough together for a post.

First up, Sir Henry de Hastings supporter of Simon de Montfort in the Second Barons' War. Sir Henry commanded the Londoners at The Battle of Lewes, so I have depicted him on foot with a bannerman.

The figures are from the Wargames Atlantic Foot Knights set, while the standard is from Footsore.

While I was splashing on the yellow and red, I added a few more Serjeants to the collection, again all from the Wargames Atlantic range.

This little vignette is of a Medieval equivalent of a food truck, the cook is a 3D print from Reconquer Designs, while the oven, cooking fire, stool and sack are from the Victrix Market set.

The cobblestones are from Wills Scenics and the base is a vehicle base from Warbases.

More 3D printing with a couple of boats from TCWminiatures3D.

A recent refight of the Battle of Rochester highlighted that we cannot have enough boats, so I added these to a recent order to check them out. Great pieces for the price!

The sacks are from the Victrix Market set while the chest is from TT Combat.

The last few pieces are "shot" markets for our Midgard games, the Wargames Atlantic Peasant Levy frame contains these arrows that are useful for making the markers.

Six 28mm figures and a couple of 28mm vehicles will add 70pts to the total this week.

From DaveD .Paul , I do like the red/yellow colour combo - it works well .The vignette pieces add some real character and those boats do indeed look the business .70 pts it is .

From JohnS - Dwarfy Goodness - 60 Points

I stagger away from Historicals this week, back to fantasy. Dwarfs have been calling my name.

We have another Oathmark game coming up on Sunday so I have been inspired to add a dozen more Dwarfs to my Kingdom.

These four are more of the Kev Adams resin dwarfs I picked up a few years back.

I think they are fantastically characterful sculpts and take me back to the 90s when "Doofs" became my go to army in WHFB.

These four are actual Oathmark miniatures from Northstar Figures. I have the king too but he was painted pre-Challenge so remains temporarily banished!

They are slightly taller and slimmer than The big-headed KA dwarfs but there is room for all the Dwarfy types in my Kingdom.

I have gone with a "Dark Ages" feel with these guys, using some LBMS shield transfers on some figures.

These last four are from my "random dwarf" selection. The bald guy on the left is a Kev Adams I think, the pick wielder is a Citadel mini but I am not sure of the makers of the two right hand figures.

I particularly like the spearshaft as is is wrapped in wire like every good workman's quick repair of a broken tool.

Another fun week of painting, and chatting. Back to historicals next week. Probably.

PS I have started playing around with "flocked" movement trays for Oathmark, this is my first try using a Renedra movement tray.

12 x 25/28mm foot @ 5 ea = 60 points

From Millsy:

More swagger than stagger if you ask me. These are jolly good John! I particularly like your choice of shield motifs. The norse theme really suits the character of the miniatures and your painting style.

I have quite a few of the same sculpts in my Oathmark dwarf army and they really are a joy to paint. One of the joys of Oathmark is the ability to mix a range of figures in a unit which you've done superbly.

Great stuff and a well earned 60 gold added to your tally mate.

Cheers,
Millsy

From PaulSS: Medieval buildings and miscellany - 60pts

I've been progressing well with the Barons' War project and wanted to add to the terrain collection, here a few pieces painted for the Challenge XVI.

The first piece is a 3D printed house ordered from the seller TCWminiatures3D on Etsy.

It's a lovely piece with bags of detail.

The interior is nicely detailed too.

The piece is mounted on a 150mm x 150mm terrain base from Warbases. It's 100mm high.

The next piece is a market stall, also from TCWminiatures3D

I'd rate this one as "fair" it's massively over sized, that mug on the bar is about the size of a space marines torso!

Again, some nice, if large, interior detail.

This one is on a Warbases 150mm x 100mm terrain base. It's 100mm high

Last up from TCWminiatures3D this week, I tagged a few accessories onto my order.

A rather nice fountain, I added some water effects.

I'm sure that the stair case will come in handy somewhere. The barrels were picked up at the FIASCO show last year, not sure of the trader.

I've already got quite a few Renedra pieces in the collection, but they do come out nicely, so I added some more.

This is a wattle and daub outbuilding with wattle fences, the fence posts are made from satay skewers.

I do like to add vegetable patches to these builds, it makes them more lived in.

The piece is mounted on a 150mm x 150mm terrain base from Warbases. It's 60mm high

The last piece in this entry is a vegetable patch using more Renedra wattle fencing. The gate is built from coffee stirrers.

Victoria stepped up to the mark when I said I'd like some model cabbages!

This one is on a Warbases 120mm x 60mm vehicle base. It's 30mm high.

Dear Lord Byron, this is my first Terrain entry of this Challenge, please be merciful :D

Hello Paul, what a great entry or terrain you have for us today.  Some great buildings here with a load of details both inside and out. I am always torn on building interiors as they look great but so often we just ignore them so we don't lose track of where all the figures all!  Maybe just my old man filled gaming group?  Regardless, they add a lot to these buildings and you have done a lovely job on them.

Very nice job on breaking up the very basic palette of colours here with subtle shade differences, it looks very natural and the groundwork on the bases is excellent as well.

The two larger buildings I am going with 15 points each, then another 10 for the outbuilding, 10 for the accessories, and 5 for the veggie patch.  But then I am going to add an extra 5 for some of the great little details, bases, and groundwork for a total of 60 points.  Great work, and I think you should get a lot of use out of these buildings in various different game systems!
