From ClintB: The Royal Navy Landing Party (28mm) (30 Points)

Faltering but continuing. Just Front and back pics of the Ironclad miniatures Royal Navy Victorian Science Fiction Landing party.

Not sure If they will be used for In her Majesties Name or Rogue stars (but in a VSF setting)

6 figures in all. All armed with pistols and except one all armed with cutlass (or Boarding knives) As mentioned all by Ironclad Miniatures and all in Tropical uniform and wearing boarding armour. (They are SCI FI models after all).

All the Best Clint

MilesR: 2 entries from Clint - we are lucky toady - very whimsical to say the least, but in a proper sort of British way, of course.

From ClintB: 15mm Russian Civil War Cavalry (80 Points)

Just finishing off! I have mostly stopped, or will stop when they pry the paintbrush from my cold dead hand.

But until they do!

Here are some 15mm Peter Pig Russian Civil War (White Russian) Cavalry. 20 in all, based for "Square Bashing"  (the WW1 rules by Peter Pig!. )

Snowy and Two Step (10pts)

As life has gotten VETY busy at present I have all but withdrawn from the challenge. But I do tend to each year do a "Micky Taking post" It was going to be of between 9-15 blogers and I have asked their permissions (mostly) but time overtook me. So maybe next year as the figures are all purchased and even primed. But this year it will not be the bloggers as "Nuns" or "Saloon girls!". Sorry Dave Doc you will have to wear the coral coloured dress with Millsy in your own time!

So instead I present Snowy and Two step, who should be known to you all.

Snowy comes from the north I did hear Chi town mentioned but I think it is north of there maybe he's a cannuk? He's polite enough! Anyway among the 5 families he is known as "Snowy".  That is not the name on his jacket thou' or what polite folk call him. Then it's "yes sir Mr Campbell! or "No sir Mr Campbell." It is after all best to be polite to Snowy. After all he is a polite gent to you. and will always treat you with respect. Snowy was called the "Smiling Assassin"  at one time due to his warm and engaging personality. I an not saying those days have passed, No Ma'am Mrs Two step I am not saying that at all. Beg your pardon Mr's Two Step I am not saying that at all.
Snowy is called Snowy because of the frozen North and NOTHING at all to do with anything you might want to snort. In fact do not even talk about sniffing anything when in his presence not if you enjoy breathing in and breathing out. That has a habbit of stopping if he don't like you, or so I am told. I am not saying they die or anything but they do leave town never to be seen again.

As for Two Step yes she is married to Snowy, or is that Snowy is married to her. Anyway I am sure you are thinking 2 step is a dance. And right enough it is. But  that is not why she's called Two step. That name comes from the number of steps you take after you Meet her in a business way. You may think North Korea had a good poison after all that one took only 30 minutes before fatality. All I am willing to say is that "Two Steps" has better, both quicker and cleaner!

Now in real life they don't look like this. If you knew what assassins looked like they would not be very effective for Phuksake! So no thing said here is in anyway ...... what's that noise?  I... don't.... feel......

The figures are Foundry street Violence 28mm. Just in case anyone wants to replicate thes two VERY FICTIONAL characters But remember they don't look like this in real life! I have labelled this as Sarahs choice please feel free to take that labe out if it suits you (Sarah/Curt/Miles) best! I am not messin with Two step!

MilesR:  Very nicely done!  Perhaps next year we'll see the challengers in miniature.  I'm not sure where your would have sourced a George Clooney miniature to represent me,,,

North West frontier. (Clint B) (100 pts.)

Well in a moment of madness (or sanity if you just happen to be a wargamer) I have managed to complete another 20 figures. All 28mm and a variety of makes, Copplestone, foundry, Empress being the main ones though.

I wanted a very rag tag look to them so no two are dressed the same or in the same colours, yes a green turban might on one figure be the same shade of green as another's tunic, but you get the idea.  Mostly I have attempted to have a subtle colour variation. They do after all want to look individual and not that they went shopping all on the same day at the same store.

While they are not for the Film bonus round (That is a group project) they could LIKE so many wargames figures be IF I so chose!

All the best Clint

MilesR:Great looking figures to accompany a classic film!  Bravo Clint!

His Royal Highness Prince Ukoomba (Clint B) (12 Points)

As an AK 47 player (Peter pig rules) one of the things I needed to do to change from AK47 to "AK47 Reloaded" the updated rules Was to have a leader and entourage on the table. As my AK force is centred around a "Dictatorship" with |Royal pretentions I needed a suitable pompous figure and a single stand of body guards. At the recent show (Cavalier) I was able to pick up the required figures.

A total of 6 figures INCLUDING the dead general. Dictators do not last very long! All 15mm size painted and based to go with my whole AK47 force. The figures are by Peter Pig and are based for the game, on 30mmx30mm for the dead figure and 30x40mm for the other two stands which also needed a lable.

A small addition which should (I hope) finish the army of at least until I decide I want some cavalry....

All the best Clint

MilesR: A great way to start off Monday!

Variety Bagbag 2.(Clint B) 6th Fede (150 points)

As you May be aware Not all posts were published last Monday. So instead of editing last weeks post in the hope it will be published here is a second post of things painted this week and due to go on Monday. (Fingers Crossed)

Rogue Stars Cultists.

Firstly here are 6 "Cultists" for the Sci Fi Game " Rogue stars".  They are all 28mm EMP Games. Link ) "Battle Brothers" Originally designed to be Sci Fi Monks a quick colour change and they become "Rogue Stars" Cultists. And 6 should be more than enough to  act as a crew. The one in all Purple is a cult leader, but only a minor leader at this stage and the one in the cream robes is to be a novice. New to the order and yet to prove tem selves. A Veteran in rogue Stars and a Green in that order. I will detail them further on my blog and maybe have the Sisterhood with them.

. I did start them all in red but as they did look like Santa I had to swap to Purple! As to preferred Psionic abilities at present I am not sure, "Mind Control" does sound like the obvious one but given how hard it is to action a number of easier ones might be preferable at the start. Although I do know some players would try for the harder ones to action first and hope to luck. But for me I think some like "Push" might be better as it can move an enemy (or one assumes even a friend) possibly out of the line of fire or into the line of fire. So may be very useful for retrieving wounded and unconscious allies....

WW1 British Cavalry.

Next up are 12 28mm Great war Miniatures British Cavalry.

My Grandfather joined the army at the age of 14 (when the war broke out) and served in the great war (Not as a front line troop you needed to be 17 years and older to fight in the trenches! Instead his job was to take mules of supplies up to the trenches. Therefore he was under artillery fire much of the night as a trench without supplies does not function for long! And supplies were carried to the trenches under cover of darkness.). In 1919 one month after being demobbed he joined the 4th Hussars a cavalry unit based in Palestine. There he learnt to read and write and to properly ride horses. He won a few trophies for horse jumping. How many and of what calibre I do not know. This love of horses has continued in our family and last weekend (30th January) my sister qualified for Hickstead this year.

Back to the figures I have painted these for Matt and to be honest they were a right pain! But seeing them finished I am quite pleased with them. If nothing else they have been a pleasant break from 10mm Zulus (yes still finishing some off). Among the 12 troopers are a Musician Carrying 2 types of bugle) and an officer armed with a pistol and not a lance! They are both in the front rank but there is no need to look for  them. Trust me they are there!

Colour wise I have had to match another painter so they did take me slightly longer than planned as I needed to get the correct Vallejo paint to match. But all in all they are finished to my satisfaction and with luck I will not need to do any more for a while.

Which makes me wonder what will I be painting next!! Actually I do already know a very few more Zulus and the Terrain bonus round.

So until next week take care, have fun and paint like crazy!

Thank you Miles. But your comment and your scheduling make these two posts to  appear to be the same week. Kindly acknowledge they were sent on different weeks and that your busy work trip delayed YOU in submitting them.  The dates were clearly in the titles which you have since deleted. You as a minion are within your right to change things and I am equally within my rights to point this action out to You Curt and the other AHPC readers.
Wishing you Well Clint.

MilesR: Another great submission form Clint - I really like the Great War Car - very evocative!

A variety bag (ClintB) From 30th Jan.

Well it is a mixed bag today due to Miles work commitments. So starting small here are:

6mm Sci Fi Light "Trucks"

A total of 7 light trucks. Last time I showed any 6mm sci fi I concentrated on heavy trucks. Not everything needs to go on large heavy trucks though. (Although I do know some people who disagree and always think the bigger the better!) So there are 3 closed body light hover trucks. As with most of this project I am staying with Brigade models and these count as German hover trucks (as  do all the rest today). As I will not be using Germans for either force they do make very suitable light trucks.

Then 3 Light "Pick-up" trucks. Most notable for the open backs which could carry many things and as long as it is not perishable or vulnerable to the hostile climate it really could be anything.

The final truck is an anti aircraft (space craft) truck. There were 14 trucks in the pack so one AA vehicle for each force seems appropriate. I dare say many players will choose to fire it as direct fire against ground targets as well.

As with all this Chinese Democratic Socialist Union force I have painted in a block camouflage pattern and placed them on "Snow" bases to best suit my frozen planet.

15mm WW2 Horch 1A light Truck!

Just a simple 15mm Battlefront German WW2 troop/crew carrier. The driver (I apologise for the poor picture quality) is dressed in late war Oak leaf spring camouflage. While the vehicle would have been painted by the crew to fit local conditions.
This vehicle will be used for PBI the Peter Pig game and came in a little mixed bag from eBay. I was only after the 2 Pak 40's and crew and this was included. The Anti tank guns will probably be done next week or the week after. So in effect this vehicle was free. Not wishing to look a gift horse in the mouth I undercoated it and painted it as quickly as possible. It will fit in with the rest of the force no problem but will seldom make the tabletop as in PBI once set up Guns hardly ever need transport. Still it is nice to have.

25mm Sci Fi

Finally I have also painted 2 Kra Vak by GZG. They have been sitting in the lead pile a few years and one day I just felt like it so I started painting them.  Being GZG they are 25mm and not 28mm. They are also quite cheap if you need any aliens at £1.50 each. I did start painting these after seeing a vid on U Tube about Rouge Stars. And yes I even sent for the rules and they are due tomorrow. But I am currently thinking of a different force which if we are all lucky will be started BEFORE the painting challenge ends.

Anyway I settled on Green (camouflaged) clothing with pouches in a lighter green and black weapons and hair. Being Aliens I could have gone for anything and still felt I ha chosen the correct colours. However the green and the black did go (in my opinion) with the purple skin tone. Mostly when I see these figures painted by others I see either green or Tan leather skin perhaps because their hair is similar to that in the film Predator. But I went Purple as I thought it looked right on the figure but being aliens any colour you choose has to be the correct colour (and /or Pattern).

Well that is my meagre offerings for this week. With luck some WW1 Cavalry next week. All the best Clint

Dear Miles Please Include the date in the title as leaving it out when it was sent in time makes me look bad and I have not complained at all but by doing so you have left me with  nothing to put on my blog. If you choose to change the title kindly let me know perhaps with an explanation of the reason. . I realise that last week you were busy with work and do not in any way blame you for leaving my post out and not sending me a private email to inform me of this action of yours when you returned from the business trip . I have carried out your wish to group all submissions for the week to make. I am not asking for an apology I know and understand you were busy. But I feel it needs to be acknowledged that this submission was sent and received (Along with a couple of others) in time for you to post but that real life may have gotten in the way.Kind Regards Clint

MilesR: Nice little submission - it will net you a tidy 32 points:

14 for the 7, 6mm vehicles
8 for the Torch and Driver
10 fro the 2 28mm vehicles

My apologies for missing you last week but I was in a location that had very poor internet and couldn't edit the blog.

Logistics on a Cold Planet (ClintB) (23 points)

Well as many of you will recall I am working on a frozen planet for some 6mm (1/300thscale) Sci Fi fun. Some people will have seen this and switched off and I do not blame them sci fi is not for everyone. For those of you still here I will continue.

For todays outing I have 4 armoured cars. Two of these will be "SCOUT" transport. (you can see the two scout stands in the last picture but close up they were not in focus. The other two will be dedicated support for my AA trucks! (Not shown today) and Convoy protection. These 4 are GZG figures I picked up some years ago and I may even have the turrets on back to front as I cannot remember what they are supposed to be!

In my last SCW game I was short of trucks. so determined to learn by my mistakes here are 4 flatbed trucks. These are all the figures below are brigade models there are an equal number still to paint but as yet I have not determined my opposing force or what the camo will be like. Anyway these are South African "Hippo" Flat beds and are simple 2 piece castings.

Yep 2 more. One with a tanker body and one with a passenger or office body. I got them all in a pack so 1/2 for each side I guess. But I did enjoy the Tanker body so I may get a couple more just for the fun of painting!

And lastly we have the logistics force together along with the 2 scout stands on the right. I will admit I am enjoying this project so I can admit there will be some more along shortly.

A total of 10 6mm vehicles and 4 infantry this time out. And if anyone knows what my opposing force should be feel free to comment. With the first force being CDSU (Chinese Democratic Socialist Union). All the best Clint

MilesR: Yet more for Clint today in the form of additional near future Chinese support units.

Zulus (Again) ClintB (82 points)

Yes I know more Zulus. This time no not hundreds, only 82. This is I hope enough to play the game I have planned (along with the ones painted previously in the challenge AND the ones done BEFORE the challenge even started.

Anyway they are a mix of New Line Designs and Pendraken miniatures, but mostly New Line Designs. They are all 10mm or 1/200th scale and should bring the force up to critical mass sufficient to play a game or two. Well that is the plan.

I have kept with my convention of mostly brown and white shields as they did make up the bulk of the tribe that did attack Rorkes Drift Station. But there are 5 small stands with all brown shields to represent the rifle armed Zulus,  1 stand (6 figures of white shield Zulus to finish of the unit shown earlier in the challenge and one small stand of Black shield and headdress Zulus to finish of that unit as well.

Yes Before anyone asks I do have more to paint, but I think not for a while as other projects are getting neglected. So my remaining Zulus will be left for now and I will get on with some more interesting projects. I am not saying I will not come back to these but rather that for now I have finished.

82 in all. at 10mm should be an additional 82 points. Nothing fancy just nearly 3 packs of Zulus finished based and ready to be put away.

MilesR: One of 2 posts from Clint today - another giant passel of Zulu's - really nicely done

chasseurs à pied (ww1 28MM ) ClintB

chasseurs à pied

When my mate Matt asked me to paint them I had no idea what they were. To be totally honest I still don't. I an told they are WW1 French (I knew that) Light Cavalry that rode to battles on bicycles! Some clever clogs will no doubt take great pleasure in informing me. Feel Free.

Anyway here are a mixture of 24 Renegade and Scarab miniatures. First shown in big clumps so you can see them all together, then in small clumps. The conditions are not good today so forgive the pics. the short days and rain all day have not been ideal, but they are finished and they are now on the challenge blog.

You never know there may be extra points for the pigeon and the cat. Lets be honest the cat just wants the pigeon for a snack! It is a single piece casting so I would not give me extra points!

The Two figures on the right are Scarab all the others are renegade Miniatures.

I have also included a pic of what they are supposed to look like. (at the bottom.) so that is where all te colours have come from rather than paintings or black and white photos.

All I will say about the painting is that highlighting dark blue and shading dark blue is fine in the summer but of little joy in the winter But they were done for a mate and I did owe him a favour so all's well that ends well.

Her are the WW1 Re-enactors where I selected all the colours from. So If I am wrong then so are they! (only the ones with push bikes! Not the Rouge Pantaloons in the back ground!)

Now I can go back to painting Zulus!!! Painting Dark blue in the dark when Ill is not recommended! ( Maybe I am the only one who thought it was. Now just checking the hairs on the palms of my hand!!!! They are all there!)Muhahahahaha!

MilesR: These 24 very smartly done figures will net you a well earned 120 points - made even a little better since they're painted up for a friend

6mm Sci Fi Infantry Company ClintB (35 points)

Today some 1/300th scale (aka 6mm) Brigade Models LINK Science Fiction Chinese troops. Theoretically this is an infantry company but as I only have 4 figures to a base to me it feels more like a platoon.

Total of 9 vehicles and 34 infantry (command stand just has 2 infantry figures. Shown bottom right in first pic))

The Force is the CDSU (Chinese democratic Socialist Union) and as I will be using the Future War Commander rules they have a "Rigid" tactical Doctrine. (Which will make them a little restricting to play I hope).

The vehicles are all "Xie Fang" MICVs one is a specialist command vehicles the other 8 are more hover (craft) battle taxis.

Needles to say the world they will be fighting on will not be blessed with tropical or moderate conditions. I hope the force looks suitable for cold weather as that is my intention. Mostly I went for a frozen setting so I would not need to make any trees and veg when I make the terrain.

A very simple force easy to transport and store and I hope to fit this force and another (yet to be determined) in a single box file along with all the terrain. Just for Pick up and play at the club.

They will also be my first ever army in sci fi 1/300th scale, BUT not my only 1/300th scale army. They were part of my Crimbo Pressie from my sister on the big day and while I did ask for 6mm sci fi I had no idea what I would get if indeed anything so I am delighted to have gotten them finished so fast!

MilesR: Great looking future army there - nice cammo on the MICV's.  The fact that you got these mini's as a present makes them even better. I never get mini's as gifts so color me jealous

These little force will net you 35 points/

Sheep! (Clint B) 28mm Livestock MONDAY

A small flock of sheep. 2 Adults and 4 lambs. The breed is "Mouflon" and I will be using them as objectives in some border reivers games. yes there will be other live stock my troops are not all sheep bothereers! The figures are made by Warbases Link and have many uses including scene dressing. I will be painting some more in the challenge as well. It is just that these are finished today and today is my posting day. And to be brutally honest they were a nice distraction from painting little Zulus!

I probably could have taken a better picture but they kept wandering off!

This is a real one
MilesR: Clint these are some mighty fine sheep and probably about as far away from Zulus as you can get.  The Warbases website lists them as 28mm so why don't we go with that.  This small but attractive flock will net you a tidy 30 points - well done!

MONDAY - A Zulu Painters work is never done! (Clint B) FOR MONDAYS MINION ( 223 10mm figures)

Well I have had to show these today as I have simply run out of room on my painting table! Yeah I know that sounds like a boast. I was going to show the whole horde in one Paint Bomb, but I just ran out of space (and enthusiasm). The Enthusiasm is returning again though

Just for the record I have about 200 more still to paint! So you will be seeing these again! Well different ones, but the same sculpts and again painted by me. Before anyone gets carried away the unit on the left has been on the AHPC before and is just to show the HORDE as it is today. I do of course refer you to Here and Here which only show the Guys on the FAR left. (Brown and white shields).

The White shields will be unmarried and un-blooded and there are Currently 66 of those.  I need ! more base of 6 to complete the unit!

The Married (White headdress) with Black and white shields Number 72. And Are a complete unit! (Yippee!)

This unit  (black shield) is currently 3 figures (a single base) short. And weighs in at 63 Figures. (a few bases only have 5 figures on them when they should have 6, but sometimes You fail to notice the 3 lighter bases in figure counts). But I have run out of figure in headdress for now so this unit may have to wait until the next show I can get to!

The last unit (for today) are rifle armed skirmishers. A total of 22 figures with 2 figures to a base for 1 base short of finishing! I am sure I have at least 1 more rifle armed Zulu so they will get finished soon.

A few gratuitous shots at the end, which do little to show how they are painted or the detail involved. Trust me on 10mm Zulus there is only so much Detail to paint. A lot of it is either skin or white feathers and Bases. Needless to say for now I am sick of painting Zulus so I will have a small break and paint larger scales for a while.

So the running total is (feel free to count them in the pictures). 223 Zulus painted since the start of the challenge.

The miniatures are mostly Newline Design and a sprinkling of Pendraken Miniatures. Both makes are 10mm tall (1/200th scale). I find the Pendraken to be better (and more expensive) and with a winder range of poses. If I was doing this project again I would stick to Pendraken.

  • Black shield and Headdress= 63
  • Solid Brown shields with rifles = 22
  • Black and White shields and Headdress =72
  • White shields Unmarried/un-blooded = 66

For a total of 223 Zulus painted and based and ready for war. (Gaming). If my Minion wants to check my Maths (that would be advised)make it either more or less that is OK with me I am just glad to be half way there for a planned game. Like I SAID DO NOT count the guys with white and Brown shields they are seen 2 years ago in the challenge! They are only shown because I know at least 1 Blogger who like to see the horde as complete as it is at any one moment in time! I will be starting the next part of the horde in a day or two!

So as I look at this I am now OVER half way (for now) So just because I can. The final Battle from the Film. Still a great film and thank goodness Hollywood have not tried to re make it!

MilesR: 223 Zulus!!!! That's more than they had in the film as extras.  Lets see 223 10mm infantry figures will net you a tidy 223 points (at one point per figure)
