From SanderS: Bring on the big gun! (30 points)

 Hoi,

Time and inspiration are seriously lacking this Challenge for me, but yet I managed to finish two little pieces to keep going. First up is an Empire Hellblaster volleygun for The Old World.

This is a great model and I had so much fun painting it for my Middenheim army, with the blue carriage and all the accessoires on the base.

Last is an unitfiller for my Bretonnian army, I think it's a resin 3d print from Highland miniatures. I have desert-themed it for the Araby Crusade part of my force.

I have no idea how to classify the unit filler so am not counting it for points so just the crewed weapon for me today.

Cheers Sander

Sander, I'm loving the throwbacks to Warhammer Fantasy Battle here! I have some triggering memories of playing against GregB's Empire army and its Helblaster (eek), man that thing was a deadly piece of ordnance. Yours looks fantastic in Middenheim colours, I pity the enemy who faces that thing. As far as the Bretonnian unit filler... it looks to me like about as much work as an infantry model, so I'm awarding five points.

That's 10 for the Helblaster, five each for the crew and five for the filler base, total 30 points.

From SanderS: Tyranids, hordes of them... (100points)

Hoi,

It surely has taken me some time to get some more miniatures painted. My personal circumstances do not permit me to paint as much as I want to but these last few days I have been able to get these gaunts painted.

Yes there's a nasty and big Carnifex in the pictures as well, but it was painted before the Challenge apart from the base which I did up together with the other bases.

These Tyranids from Games Workshop are part of a large 40K army I am painting up to be used as a demo army at the club. I have already painted some of the other Tyranid beasties during last Challenge and I still need 3 more big ones to do.

Points is easy for these: 20 x 5 points is 100.

Cheers and till next time! Sander

Very very cool Tyranids Sander! The colours are great and I really like the gore on the Carnifex. I'm sure the lads at the club will be happy to take command!

An even hundred points for you.

From SanderS: Little Red Riding Hood (10 points)

Hoi,

My first post for the Challenge this year is a small one. Two very nice figures made for the Belgian Mordheim enthusiasts "Owlhammer" they have ordered some very cool and characterful miniatures in a Old World Gothic Mordheim style of which the fist I have painted is this unlikely duo: Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf.

After some consideration I decided to indeed give the girl a red cloak and hood because it just seemed fitting. The Wolf, in the lore the group has devised, is a defected Knight if the White Wolf, (templar of Ulric) who has attached himself to the girl to keep her from harm. I intend to use him as a champion in my Middenheim Old World army as well as in Mordheim.

Points are easy on these as two 28mm figures net me 10 points.

Hope you like these as much as I do.

Cheers Sander

Sander, I just love these models and your paintjobs! They are so characterful and "of the period" (that is, the 1990s and the fantastic output from the GW Studio). You had a great idea to paint this model as Little Red Riding Hood, it's just so fitting. And I also love the lore behind your Knight of the White Wolf too. Ten points to open your account!

So what exactly has been scheduled at the moment?

As we are talking about an Epic start to the weekend, yesterday evening I had the incredible luck to be able to attend a concert from the truly amazing Dutch metal formation Epica in Köln. I couldn't wish for a better start so I thought I'd share some of that with you guys.

From the Saturday Minion: The first Transport is away!

 Hoi there dear Challengers,

Now some say being a Minion in the AHPC is some sort of extreme punishment, made up by that omnipresent and omnipotent Evil Dorklord his Coolness the Snowlord himself, but to be fair I volunteered so none of the above is true in my case. That said I am much honoured to be allowed to help put up the excellent posts of the Saturday Scoundrels  this Challenge and a lot there is to look forward to indeed.

So without further ado we will commence this Saturday's posts in a good hour or so with some awesomeness planned already: The First Transport is away!

Have a great Challenge everyone and enjoy!

Cheers Sander

From SanderS: The Challenge is Dead, Long Live The Challenge! (Many points!)

 Hoi there,

Sorry guys for being so late with this post but things happened after the Challenge ended. To me this was a very pleasant Challenge that I enjoyed more than the last two. The passing of my dad two years ago and all the work issues last year made me miss my target, not fully participate in the side duels or bonus rounds and all this I was able to enjoy this year in the full.  It was so energising to see all the stuff you people made and the feedback always is very encouraging and keeps me painting.

As to what I finished this Challenge, that was way more than I anticipated at the beginning. And of course I forgot to include a lot of it in the picture above: the 1:72 Napoleonic Saxons and Titus and the Nids were sadly left out of the picture, so I include them below

A HUGE thank you is of course due to the Snowlord and -Lady! They have done it yet again and I for one am gratefull to have been part of this kick-ass community! The minions deserve bucketloads of praise as well, as I know from experience it's a dastardly task indeed.

Personally I would like to specifically thank Gregarius for keeping me on my toes and inspiring me to get some more Dogs of War painted in the end.

So there you have it, another Challenge finished see you guys next year!

From Sander: The Last post? (45 points)

 Hoi,

This might well be my last official entry  for this year's Challenge, I am trying to get one more in, but it will be tricky.

Anyway I have two different subjects for you today. First up are 5 more Stompy Robots or Battlemechs. I have painted these in the colours of the Northwind Hussars who are part of the Northwind Highlanders Mercenary Regiment.

On the left lower leg I tried to depict the unit's Tartan

While on the right leg I painted the personal Tartan of the pilots.

The second subject is my proxy for the Warhammer Empire Steamtank; I do not own an official model (yet) but this resin print is a very nice proxy I think. The looks of a wooden landship fits in nicely with the Lustria theme I envisage for my Dogs of War army and hence I have painted it in their reds and yellows.

My favourite feature is the crew member dangling from the ladder trying to shoot a would-be assailant. I bought this as a secondhand rescue project and it turned out amazing in my opinion. Apart from providing some heavy support I intend to use it as a mobile trophy rack, when gaming. I will try to embellish the tank with shields, banners and heads from spare parts from the enemies it fights and defeats. These will be glued to it's sides after the battles.

A quick count of points says 5 x 28mm is 25 + 1 vehicle in 28mm is another 20 points for a total of 45 points.

I will see you all in the "end-of- Challenge" posts for sure soon!

Cheers Sander

Wow, wonderful work Sander! While the mechs are all very cool in their armoured glory and highland regalia, I have to say that your steamtank takes the ribbon here. Lovely brushwork on the hull and its various fittings (the smokestack finial-thingy is awesome). I agree with you that the chef's kiss of the model is the crewman optimistically hanging from the side (great work on his puff and slash uniform). A great basis for your future 'trophy rack'!

Finally, thank you for showing us your hard work over the course of the Challenge. I very much look forward to you and Arthur's round up photos!

From SanderS: "I am Gregarius IV!" (50 points)

 Hoi,

One last Gregarius post as Greg has mightily inspired me to paint up one of my two units of Braganza's Besiegers for my Dogs of War Army. You can gaze at the magnificence of Greg's figures HERE

If you hadn't noticed by now I am a major Old World fan, have been since starting out in the hobby and soooo glad the Old World is back. As said elsewhere I have 3 factions I am building armies for (Dwarfs, Bretonnia and the Empire) but I have divided my Empire army in two separate projects: my Middenheim army (which is the vanilla army) and my Lustria themed Dogs of War, mostly featuring Conquistadore/ Italian Renaissance like figures. This unit belongs to the latter army.

While Greg chose to go with the Old Skool "official" GW colourscheme; he nailed the armour way better than the 'Eavy Metal team did back then. Now I want my force, at the least the guys wearing heavy armour, to have dark metal armour which I think is more brooding.

I also knew I didn't want to depict Braganza's Besiegers themselves and thus had to deviate from the "canon" shield designs, a short Pinterest search came up with these awesome designs which I mostly painted on by hand, there are indeed some decals on there (mostly the animals) and these are from GW and a Roman Republican transfer sheet I had kicking around for my 1:72 troops. They work really well to get in that Italian Renaissance look I find.

The banners are still in the mail on their way over here, but I will make sure to post them here when they arrive and are fitted to the figures!

Points wise 10 figures in 28mm are good for another 50 points and I might yet have one more entry left to post later on...

----------

Wonderful to see another Regiment of Renown get some love during the challenge Sander! You've done a great job with them and your diverse pavisse designs really make then pop - great stuff!
