From SteveK: Pict Progress (80 points)

 Now then,

The Pict project continues, although I wont get them all done before the challenge ends, ive got a big chunk of them done.

So over the last few weeks ive managed to get 49 painted, plus lots that im rebasing and mixing into the newer painted stuff.

This is where we are. loads to do but ill crack on, I reckon another few weeks and ill  be done.

Total 20 28mm infanty. not based, so 4 points each?

Cheers,

Steve

Any progress is good progress, and it looks like you have the majority of the army done. Great work on these Picts, the finished army should look fantastic.

From Steve K - Pictish Warband Infantry -80 Points

Now then,

another slight deviation from the plan... So I grabbed the new edition of Hail Caesar, a system that I always quite liked, but havent played in ages. The new edition clears things up and is a very pretty book. Anyway, I decided to expand my Picts, which effectively doubles the size of the army.

I grabbed a bunch of Metal Gripping beat Picts as well as a GB plastic box set and set to work. I have to say, the plastics are nice, simple models but I find it a real pain sticking them together, not that they are difficult but because I just prefer metals...

Ive painted up 19 Picts this week (after spending a week losing the will to live sticking my fingers together). A mixture of metal and plastic.

They are not based yet as im going to wait until they are all painted so i can mix them together with the box load of Footsore minis that I have waiting in the queue.

The army so far, as you can see there are lots of empty bases that need filling!

Points

19 x 28mm foot @5pts per model = 95pts.

Have a good week everyone!

Steve

The Picts look superb, you've done an excellent job with the clothing, especially the plaid and striped patterns.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but basing your minis is kind of a requirement of the challenge. I totally understand that you want to do all of the basing in one go, I've been in a similar boat myself.  Having consulted with the other minions, I'm afraid the dark arcana running the spreadsheet of doom mean I can only award you 4 points per model. If you do get these figures based by the end of the challenge, make a note of it in your post and the extra point per mini will be added to your score. To make it up to you, I will throw in a couple of bonus points for the fine brushwork and for persevering with the plastic minis.

From Steve K Saturday, Wolf Riders 165pts .

Now then,

First up this week I have some Oathmark wolf riders, that I'm using as warg riders for my lord of the rings project.

The first 8 are armed with melee weapons, ready to support the foot sloggers.

The next 8 are armed with bows.

I also painted up this Rohan foot character, which I'll add to a unit as a horn blower.

The whole lot together.

16 x 28mm mounted - 120pts

1 x 28mm foot - 5pts

Total 125pts.

Cheers

Steve.

Sorry for being a little late posting these up, I only noticed after my minioning shift had ended.

Great work on these wolf riders, the Oathmark models really fit the LotR aesthetic nicely. I think you have under-scored them though, 28mm cavalry are worth 10 points a piece.

Steve K - Riders of Rohan and some tiny Bavarians 98Pts

 Now then,

This week has all been about the Cavalry, Big and small!

First up we have 8 Riders of Rohan, oldies but goodies, I really dont "need" any more of these, but when has that stopped any of us?

I had to make a few conversions here and there to this batch, as I was dredging the bottom of the box, and many bits were missing so you might see the odd Orc shield and axe here and there!

Next I thought id get some more of the never ending Napoleonics done. This time a base of Bavarian Chevauleger.

As usual, these are 6mm Adler miniatures, and are based up for Blucher.

I havent added flags to these, as I cant work out what they would have carried. It seems that they didnt have flags, or they werent carried on campaign, although the miniatures have a standard bearer, carrying a flag pole. I dont know!.... They can be added later if needs be.

Scores on the doors!

8 x 28mm Mounted = 80pts

18 x 6mm Mounted = 18pts

Total 98pts.

So thats all from me this week. Have a good weekend everyone.

Steve

Great looking batch of horsemen, Steve. The Riders of Rohan look suitably wild compared to the well dressed lines of the Bavarians. I'm impressed by how neat the Napoleonics look, if it hadn't been for the final comparison shot, I wouldn't have believed that they were 6mm. Nice work.

From Steve K - Rohan Infantry 122pts

 Now then,

A bit late submitting my entry today, as I struggled to get them finished off! But never mind, here they are.

So 24 x 28mm Infantry have been this weeks efforts. I paint my Lord of the rings stuff in a slightly different way from my normal method, mainly because my forces are so big. So batch painting is the order of the day, where the mass is more important than the small details.

These all have an oil wash applied, which I have found saves a huge amount of time when getting them cranked out.

I have also painted up and finished the movement trays for the War of the Ring game system, which I prefer, as big armies and big battles is what its all about for me!

These are MDF movement trays from Warbases.

And finally, here are the three companies, 1 of Archers, 2 of Militia.

So, scores on the doors...

24 x 28mm foot @5pts = 120pts
3 x Movement trays.... I don't know....

That's it from me this week!
Steve

Great looking set of figures, Steve. Batch painting may not yield the highest quality minis, but as you say the mass is more important when fielding big forces. These Rohan troops look great all ranked up and ready for combat. I'll throw in an extra couple of points for the movement trays too.

One small point, please add labels to your post as it makes it easier for people to search for it if they want to come back to it, or to browse related posts on the blog.

From Steve K: Savage Orcs and Spider Riders! (40 points)

 Now then,

Painting has slowed down this week due to the inevitable holiday family stuff... But, i have managed to get some Orcs and Gobbos painted up for my SAGA age of magic warband.

First up, the Savage Orc Beserkers! These are all GW miniatures that have been rattling about in a box for a couple of years so its nice to get them done.

I decided to mark out my beserkers with some blue warpaint, It makes them stand out against the chaff Orc Boyz, and was something I wanted to have a go at.

Enjoyable to paint, and a nice break from painting more realistic looking models.

The 2 spider riders are actually characters for my Goblin force, a champion and a Shaman.

Very fiddly models to paint but very cool too. So odd looking but I think they look suitably sinister and evil.

Finally all the bad lads together. A fun couple of evenings painting.

Scores!

4 x 28mm Orcs @5pts = 20pts

2 x 28mm mounted @10pts = 20pts

Total - 40pts

Happy new year everyone!

Steve

Happy new year Stig. lovely job on these. With yours and IanW's orcs you should have enough to fight my lizardmen this year.

From Steve K: 28mm North African Civilians and market stalls (44 pts)

Im back at it, after the eating and drinking frenzy that is Christmas! I dont know about you guys but im glad that is all over and done with for another year....

So today I've finished off some 28mm bits and bobs for an upcoming game, pretty much just table dressing for a game of chain of command set in North Africa in 1941.

first up, Civvies!

6 civilians, these are Perry miniatures from their Crusades range.

And to finish off, a couple of 3D printed Market stalls, complete with boxes of fruit and veg. Fiddly things to put together!

Scores on the doors.

6 x 28mm foot @5 pts each = 30pts
2 x Market stalls - i am at the mercy of the minions, I've no idea how to point these so will have to see what the powers that be say.

Thats it for today, cheers lads and lasses,
Steve.

Very nice work Steve. I really like seeing civilian figures/accoutrements on a tabletop, it really helps to set the tone and period for the game. While the market stalls and associated bits may have been fiddly to get finished, they certainly have paid off in their overall effect. With this in mind, I'm going to give you 7 points for each stall.

Ace work Steve!

From SteveK: 6mm French Infantry - Blucher (144 points)

 Hi all,

A bit of a diversion... (already)...

I thought id kick off the challenge by knocking out a few brigades of French troops for my never ending Blucher project. Ive been chipping away at this project (one way or another) for about 12 years, and despite being able to paint them quickly, I just as quickly get fed up of them!

Anyway, here they are.

A total of 12 battalions worth of Adler 6mm Napoleonics.

Scores on the doors!

273 Infantry @ 0.5 points each = 136.5

1 mounted @ 1 point = 1

Total = 137.5 points

Cheers and merry Christmas!

Brilliant work Steve! I have a soft spot for Adler Napoleonics as I had a large collection in the past, all based for 'Grand Armee'. Great little models. I really like how orderly and neat your bases are, with their serried ranks of beautifully painted miniatures, waving brave banners, and all augmented with clearly designed labels. A nice and strong division of French grognards, ready to put the enemies of the Emperor to flight. Well done!

I've added a few extra points for the flags as I know how challenging they can be at this scale.

Steve K - AHPC XIII, my first go at the challenge!

With 5 days to go until I embark upon my first Analogue Hobby painting challenge I thought id introduce myself, Im steve (or Stig) and I run the little legions hobby blog and youtube channel.

I thought id jump in this year, as a few members of my club regularly take part and seem to get a load of stuff done every year. So thanks to Dave Docherty, Martin Cooke and James Macmillan.

I have a ton of stuff that needs painting, a lead and plastic mountain that just seems to grow bigger every year, despite my best efforts to keep it under control!

So the plan.. in no particular order....

15mm WW2, halftracks and crews from Forged in battle. Also there are a couple of late war MG42 teams.

Just sat behind them are 3 Shermans from Plastic soldier company that still need priming.
Next I have some 3d printed market stalls that I picked up at the excellent battleground show last month, to go with them are 6 perry miniatures arab civilians.

4 games workshop savage Orcs and a couple of goblin spider riders, to be added to my SAGA age of magic Warband.

24 GW rohan warriors and a 3d printed character from medbury miniatures.

7 Riders of Rohan from GW.

A great big Balrog, ive had this one for quite a while, should be a real challenge to paint up!

16 wolf riders from Oathmark, I use these as Warg riders in my LOTR games.

A bunch of Primaris Marines, ive had these for a couple of years now, very expensive miniatures... about time I actually painted them methinks.

Finally, I plan to use the challenge to kick start my new project, The 100 years War in 28mm. These are all Perry miniatures and are a mix of plastic and metal models.

The whole lot. That should keep me pretty busy over the next few months, although im sure more will be added !!

Thanks for having me along this year!
Steve.
