From QuinnM: 2 weeks worth of models (190points)

 I missed getting my post up last week as things happen. But I did paint a last week. 

So the Models I painted last week are an entire Malifaux crew. They are Nephilim vampires. I am not much of a fan of the models (why is every single one that has a pair of wings different sized) but their rules are really fun. 

and this week I did some more work on finishing up my AOS Sylvaneth Army. We have some Kurnoth hunters with great swords and a bunch of dryads. I did get these guys second hand so a couple of parts are missing. Not that you'll really be able to tell. 

With These guys I did follow up with the cherry blossom theme. I still have not received my Cherry flock to fully complete these guys along with their basing medium. But the stage of painting is done so I'm going to claim points on them now.

So for points.

I found two more dry bottles I painted that I'd left out of the group shot. So instead of setting them all up again you get this. So you can see that all 20 are there

Sylvain: Another great demonstration of your talent for blending colors nicely. The brownish color of the vampire really evoke a sombre ambiance, while the purple on the Sylvaneth makes you travel to a world of fantasy. Bravo!

 

 

From QuinnM: Tree Lord and some Malifaux (35 points)

This week I didn't quite finish as many models as I wanted to, but I was able to get some Malifaux completed. These are some versatile terracotta soldiers for Malifaux. These guys are some quick washes and dry brushes just to have something more than one guy for this week

And then the model that I spent most of the week touching up and refining. We have a tree-lord from Age of Sigmar. I've seen a number of these guys painted up online as cherry blossom trees (Sakura trees) and they all look amazing. And I ultimately decided to do the same for my Army. 

I am still waiting on some pink flock to fully finish him. But ultimately the OSL and nmm are things I don't have a lot of practice with and I'm going to try and do a lot of it across the entire Army. We have a larger batch that's not quite finished for next week.

Sylvain: Quinn, this is a great "fusion" of cultural references, and very colorful too. Because of its hybrid aura, your treeman feels otherworldly. As for your terracotta warriors, they have a great earthy texture. Bravo!

Scoring is not easy, since you obviously spent a gazillion more hours on one figurine than the 3 others. I will score your large figurine as a 28mm vehicle.

From GeoffT: Fraud, The Dreamer (50 points)

Hello Challengers,

For the Fraud theme, I selected ‘The Dreamer’ starter box from Malifaux 1e.  The dreamer is not what he appears, seems like a cute little boy, but can summon hideous monsters from his dreams.  He isn’t really a human boy, he is one of the Neverborn, Malifaux native inhabitants.

The big purple monster is ‘Lord Chompy Bits’, and is really big, so worth 10 points I reckon.

Fraud circle of hell bonus = 20 points

Hello Challengers,

The theme of lust is well represented in fantasy art, with the ubiquitous chain mailed bikini clad barbarian well represented in paintings, illustrations and miniatures.

When Malifaux burst onto the miniature scene in about 2007, they had an amusing new take on a number of tired tropes.  One was the zombie hookers from the resurrectionist faction.

These nurse models are from the same faction, they are not zombified, nevertheless somewhat an amusing bent from the standard tropes.

The whole gang.

These models are a part of a set of five miniatures I painted from the first edition McMourning starter set.  I do very much enjoy these starter sets, they are great fun.  I got this from a bargain bin, the theme of my challenge this year.  These models are highly detailed sculpts, so were pretty hard to paint.  The detail was a bit beyond my aged eyes and old school painting methods, but I tried my best.

Points:

5 x 28mm miniatures = 25 points

Lust theme = 20 points

Squirrel count +1 for Malifaux Ressurectionists.

For 'Lust' I knew we were going to hit the usual suspects and you're first on the board with 'the sexy nurse' - congratulations! :) I have to say that even with your aged eyes and old school skills you did a magnificent job on this team. I quite like the doctor snapping on his gloves like Frank-N-Furter. Great stuff!

From ByronM: Last dash to the end [Lady Sarah's Cart](40 points)

 It has been a super slow challenge for me with a lot going on this year distracting me, so I will be missing my points goal for the first time since being involved with the challenge.  Sigh....  Oh well, life goes on, and I may as well try to get a few last points up today.

First up is a Kingdom Death: Monster figure that I painted up for some bonus points with Sarah's Library Cart, to take a trip, hmm.... anywhere.... I don't plan on getting any other bonus points so it doesn't really matter where I go, I just had this female figure on the painting table to finish at some point.  

She is a survivor done up in leather gear (including the bondage face mask and gear) and has her Dom whip in hand!  Kingdom Death is not for the weak of heart, so she makes sure you can pass the test before letting you out of the settlement!

I was not sure on colours, other than the leather needing to be black or brown.  I went with a very Karen blue hair as I wanted something to contrast against the brown and flesh of the rest of the model, and I think it worked out well.

Next up I have 2 models that have been kicking around on my painting table for at least 2 years and maybe 3 or 4!  They are the last models for the Ten Thunders gang for Malifaux that got tucked behind a bunch of other stuff years ago when I did the other models of the gang and forgotten.  Since we haven't played in years, it hasn't been an issue.  However, we started talking about giving it another go recently so I figured I should get them done.  

The female is a caster of types to help out the rest of the faction, and the guy is a oni spirit that they bring with them to crush their enemies.  Not my best work, but they are done and table worthy.

Overall this should be 40 points.  10 for the 35mm KD figure, 20 for Sara's Library Cart, and then 5 for each of the Malifaux figures.  

I should be back later tonight for one last post, I am just trying to finish up my Turnip28 figures, but we will see how that goes.

Ha, you thought you'd escape me didn't you? No way! I won't miss minioning this absolutely stunning KD figure. The leatherwork is fantastic, you may have had your doubts about the colours but they work very well and the overall effect is fabulous. What a great piece! I think the photos don't do the Malifaux figures enough justice, but they look great too. A great post, Byron! I am not entirely sure about the maths, there is no 35mm category and it is not really possible to judge the size of the KD figure, so I went along with your suggestion and scored it as a 54mm figure. In any case 10 points seems fair. So, 40 in total,let's hope we'll see you back later today!

From StuartL - Way Out West - Fantasy and Sarah's Library Cart (65 Points)

Hello all, I hope that you are enjoying the winter festivities. For me, Christmas is a small, quiet affair. My wife was at work all day, so I could get on with the important business of painting minis, and I have a few to post as a result. 

    Having spent the last challenge travelling in the comfort of Lady Sarah's Limousine, I was a little disappointed to be downgraded to a Library Cart, but as I have no intention of walking, I won't grumble too much. 

    So, to pay for my ride, I present this female knight from Reaper Bones. This is one of their older figures and the face is a little bit lumpy. (Plus I have managed to get flock everywhere despite my efforts to clean it up). To accompany her on her quest and to do any fetching and carrying, I have included two other knights. These are more recent Bones minis and they are a lot crisper in terms of detail. 

   These models are going to be used in a new game. Over the summer I started work on writing my own miniature skirmish game, and so far I have the core rules done. The idea is that it will be very sand-boxy and miniatures agnostic, so that players can build whatever they like in terms of their forces. Having played a few test games, the system plays quite smoothly, though some balance tweaks are necessary. However, my gaming group meets infrequently and are obsessed with some minor (and inferior) game called Warhammer, so getting in enough playtesting has been challenging to say the least. If anybody fancies helping out, let me know and I can send you a copy of the current rules. Any and all feedback will be most welcome.

    So, with Sarah's Library cart trundling along, it is time to visit my second section of the library, the Fantasy Books section.

    Tomorrow I have a friend coming over for a day of gaming and he wants to play Malifaux. For those of you who don't know it, Malifaux is a card driven, Weird Wild West skirmish game set on a world in a magical dimension. Factions run a wide range between steam-punk cowboys, redneck gremlins, killer snowmen and undead ladies of ill repute. For tomorrow's game, I needed some muscle for my crew, so painted up a character known as the Brutal Emissary.

    This chunky fellow is a manifestation of one of the factions in Malifaux, the Guild. The Guild are the rulers of Malifaux's human population and are very draconian in terms of their policies and practices. The Brutal Emissary is no different, either walloping enemies with that massive blade, or locking them in a cage (or that coffin on his hip).

    Despite being an undead monstrosity, this model synergises really well with the Guild's undead hunting crew, the Death Marshals, which I shall be using tomorrow. Hopefully newly-painted-model syndrome will pass me by and the emissary won't be killed turn one by a lucky shot.

    

    And just so you can see how big he truly is, here is a scale shot with the Reaper mini from earlier.

On to the scoring and we have:

3x 28mm minis = 15 points

1x 54mm mini = 10 points

Library Cart = 20 points

Fantasy = 20 points

TOTAL = 65 Points

   The Brutal Emissary also gives me 1 skull for the Skull Duel. Woo.

Great work on these fantasy denizens, Stuart! That Brutal Emissary is a very impressive piece of nastiness. His gibbet 'lantern' must have been quite fiddly to work with - well done! 

As to your rules-in-developmen, I hope our group can take a run at them this new year, and hopefully you'll get some other Challengers interested to serve as playtesters for you. The more the merrier!
