From SteveG: The finale of ancients (220 points)

Final week.  Been a lot of fun, if a bit exhausting. I'm looking forward to a slower pace of  min painting from now on. :)   Thanks to Millsy and all organizers.

Here's my last lot.

Firstly  a mixed bag of Illyrian Skirmishers.  Aventine and Victrix kitbashed.  8 guys.

Then some nudist Greek Amazon Hoplites from Brother Vinni in Slovakia.

A few Victrix  slingers and Aventine Hellenisitc commander

Fittingly,  my final offerings are from the Canadian company, Relic Miniaturtes, that make some beautiful Punic war and Successor era metal 28mm mins.
Cheers all.

Hannibal on Surus in the Etruscan swaps.

Relic Velites.

Relic Hastati

and Maharabal   Carthaginian Cavalry commander in 2nd Punic war.
I love both the standing figure and mounted versions.

even his horse looks proud!

more of my minis and review are available @

Points 34 x 5  foot  = 170
elephant w  rider = 25  +  15 for the base
horse w  rider - 10

so 205  +  whatever Etruscan swamp base of elephant is worth

From Millsy:

What a cracking way to finish your Challenge mate! A final flourish of your beautifully painted ancients and capped off with a stonking diorama for your elephant. That would have to be my favourite piece from all the work you have submitted and there's some pretty stiff competition.

Well done Steve, 215 more points to close things out. It's been great fun looking after you.

Cheers,
Millsy

From SteveG: Ancients on the final turn (210 points)

Coming into final bend of a long race. Just enough energy to keep up the pace. Hopefully can come home with some good entries.

Here's a mix of stuff all completed this week.

Ist up some famous ancient commanders

Sitalces of Thrace

mostly an Aventine figure w a new head ( 2 actually)

Ptolemy ( Aventine )

Cassander ( Gripping Beast)

Lysimachus of Thrace (Aventine)

Seleucus ( Aventine)

Phillip II of  Macedon ( Aventine - kitbashed)

Resin Warfare Itallic Horse

various dudes

phalangites by WiP and Victrix

Illyrians - various

Carthaginian Citizen Militia  - various

and to finish off the 2nd of the recently released Battlecat Carthaginian elephants but done as Ptolemaic.

So looks like
infantry 5 points x  36  = 180
cavalry 10 points x 1 = 10
elephant 20 points x 1 = 20  so 210 points .

From Millsy:

If you feel like you are fatigued Steve it's is definitely not reflected in either the quantity or quality of your output! Having been largely focused on one subject myself I do understand how it feels though.

Another superb batch of Ancients mate, especially the second nellie which is just beautiful. Well done once again. This lot takes you past triple your original target. Cracking effort.

Cheers,
Millsy

From SteveG: Carthage and The naughty Gallic boy (145 points)

1st up are some very nice "Punic Citizens Cavalry"    3D prints by Resin Warfare. 28mm

Then comes the tale of a naughty Gallic boy. One night he crept into the local Roman Camp and painted some shields with white paint.  Discovered at the end of his escapade  he flees for his life past unimpressed women folk and farmers. His brother looks on hoping he wont be blamed.  The town dogs show varying levels of interest. The irate Romans approach the town chief whilst some  Gallic warrior, alarmed at all the commotion, prepare for the worst.

where is that little swine ?

Wotgivesarix hopes to placate the Romans with roast pork and mead. It's always worked before!

otherwise his stunted bodyguard may be needed.

so points  ....
4 x cav = 40
16x humans and dogs = 80
oxen and cart w rooster  = 15 points

so  150 I guess ? [145 after I adjusted the cart score - Millsy]

From Millsy:

Another jam packed submission of ancient goodness mate!

The cart in particular (scored as a vehicle - 10 points) is really flavourful and the timber effect is spot on. I also noted what looks like one of those new fangled patterned cloaks made from real fabric on the driver. Is that right?

145 more points is a great haul for this late on when the enthusiasm is starting to ebb. Nice work.

Cheers,
Millsy
