From Mike W: 28mm Arthurian Infantry, Greenskins and others Skullz (278 Points)

This week sees me finish my last of my current supply of Arthurians  I'm already planning for a number of new units but I'm unlikely to get hold of these before the close of this year's challenge. 

Temporarily the last batch of Arthurian Infantry

The batch includes 10 close order Medium Infantry  all spear armed and including an officer, mustard standard Bearer with added cloak, these are all Gripping Beast Late Romans, with Victrix head swaps.

10 x Gripping Beast figures (with some head swaps) painted up with tan tunics, green trim and white/red shields. I need to look for some white/green white/blue transfers to get some more variety.

Close-up on the command figures, not very clear in the photo but he standard bearer has had a Victrix cloak added, the musiciuan's horn is, I believe, from the Conquest Figures Norman set.

There are also 5 little guys with chainmail, including a standard Bearer, painted to join an earlier group of similarly painted guys to make up numbers of another unit.

Again these guys are all Gripping Beast with head swaps, I still need to source a suitable transfer for the standard.

Next to the Greenskins, 4 x bases of Snotlings, these are mostly old metal figures, though there is the odd plastic guy mixed in with them.

They were undercoated black  with Goblin Green added as a base coat before being drybrushed with a light tan colour.

Close-up on the left of the unit, I wanted the skin tones to be significantly lighter than the Goblins and Orcs in my army, I'll now have to retro-fit this skin tone tyo my two Snotling Pump Wagon Crews - but that is for another time.....

 

Skin was then given a coat of Army Painter Ghillie Green, leather / cloth with Nazdreg Yellow and wood with Gore Grunta Fur. Metal was done in Leadbeltcher Silver before mouths, teeth and other details added.

I have scored them at 1 point each as they are all about 10mm tall.

I have also painted up  two Bolt Chukkas to give some long range heavy support,  each with a crew of 3 goblins. These were old eBay purchases that have floundered in the loft for many years, finally ready for the tabletop.

To this is added a few Goblin odds and end infantry that I dragged from the bits and spares boxes, to add to the ranks of existing units.

Finally for this week's Greenskins are 10 more Wolf Rider, having enjoyed painting last weeks unit, it was a simple decision to paint up another unit in the same vein.

I tried to give this unit much darker wolves,
this was only partially successful as the drybrushing ended up lightening a number of these beasties.

A great final Friday post, Mike! It's good to see more of your ARthirians, tyhey look as good as the earlier ones. As do the wolf riders, you must have a veritable army of them now! The snotlings look good too, I have never quite grasped the concept but they are quite adorable. A rather respectable 278 points for you!

From TeemuL: Gunslinger and Greenskins [Westerns][Fantasy] (90 points)

"Westerns have much in common to Superheroes, at lesat they used to. Character by John Wayne was the good guy and good guys had a happy end. That Italian genius then ruined the whole industry and now Westerns are a sub-area of comedy... So while we are here, we can think what we can learn from Westerns. Yes, there are good and bad guys (sometimes ugly, too, but they don't sell). Lots of outdoor scenes (unless playing poker) and wide shots. Men are men and women are there to be rescued. All these things are very close to Middle-Earth, not may be exactly (looking at you Galadriel), but very close. So there is lot of plot twists and themes we can use, I guess we only need a script..."

This mini is from YourModelBox, one of the exclusive minis they had. It is plastic and bigger than 28mm, but 40mm either. I painted him mainly in Contrast paints, the belts are old school paints as is the base. He has a scarf of some kind which hides his whole face, and while he is carrying something at the same time as shooting, I guess he is a bad guy. A robber of some sort, I'd say. Quite nice to paint, not too many details and an open pose.

I gave him a desert base, ideal for outdoors. It is one of GW's basing "paints" with a light drybrush and couple of tufts.

I'm rushing here a bit, we now move to the Fantasy Studio. There is a month left in the Challenge and I realized I will be away for almost two weeks, so if I want to handle the Red Chair Challenge by Snowlord, I better get there sooner than later. So yes, walking from Westerns through the already visited Swords & Sandals we get to the Fantasy. I know, some Lotr minis would have been an obvious choice, but instead I have these old Orcs ans Snotlings from Games Workshop.

Here are three bases of Snotlings, each having 5 of these vicious beasts. They are a mix of two plastic designs, randomized on the bases. The bases itself are a mix of two plastic bases and one mdf base, because I didn't have enough similar bases... And the skins have at least three different green shades on them, just under that green Biel-Tann Green wash, of course. Red cloths and clubs are of course mandatory. The eyes and teeth have some colour, too. The bases are covered with PVA glue and sand, then washed and painted green.

Snotlings are not to be trusted to be alone, so here are 3 Orcs to look after them. They are old plastic monopose orcs, but with rather modern shields. These three will boost my second unit of Orcs from 12 to 15, which is just one standard bearer short of 16, which will make a nice square.

And yes, these are an addition to an existing army, so I followed the original colour choices (originally from the box cover) with modern paints. These are not Contrasts however, regular acrylics, but from the 21st century. Bases are covered in same way as those of Snotlings.

And then the scores. 4 minis in 28mm scale for 20 points.

15 minis in 15mm scale for 30 points.

2 studio locations for 40 points.

In total a nice 90 points.

I should be now well over 2/3 of my target, but large amount of my points come from Studio location bonuses and like I said, I'm away for almost two weeks, so it will be a struggle to reach my target. At least I managed to reach The Director's Chair, let's see what he expects from me...

From SanderS: Pass me another Snotling! (210 points)

Today there's another Blood Bowl team: a Snotling Team and it's yet again for another friend of mine (Martijn) I am painting up another big project for him so more on that later this Challenge. 

For now I have painted it up in the colours he asked me to. I specially like the pumpwagons although I do believe Martijn wasn't too happy with how they performed in the first game we played last week.

 First up the linemen, one of them is sporting a cap in the colours of the Labrunners, they probably nicked it from Mark's team:

As is fitting, I also painted up the markers for the team, but haven't come round to painting the balls.

I also finished him a Troll to go along with the team as well as the two gutter runners that were missing from Mark's team last week.

The pumpwagons I will count as a mounted figure each (so 20 points total) and the markers I will take together as 1 figure so 5 points. So that brings it all up to a total of:

- 2 gutterrunners: 10 points

- 1 troll 5 points

- 18 snotlings is 90

- 2 pumpwagons 

- markers 5 points

for a total of: 130 points

That's a very colourful team, Sander! However, I'm still trying to work out how those pumpwagons don't tip over backwards from the weight of those rocks...

As for the scoring, I'm going to count the pumpwagons as vehicles, which they undoubtedly are. They also have crew - it looks to be four figures with each one, making eight more snotlings. And two of the specials are riding squigs, so they're "cavalry". And there seems to be another snotling being thrown by the troll...hang on while I work out the correct points!

I make that:

17 snotlings on foot (including the one being thrown), plus 8 on the pumpwagons, plus 2 gutter-runners...that's 27 x 28mm foot @ 5 = 135 points

2 mounted snotlings = 2 x 28mm mounted @ 10 = 20 points

2 pumpwagons = 2 x 28mm vehicle @ 20 = 40 points

1 troll - I'm told it's 75mm tall, so = 1 x 40mm mounted @ 15 = 15 points

Total = 210 points
