From Chris H - Final Points Rush (280 points)

What with my son's 18th Birthday on Saturday I really did not think I would get time to finish off the bases of the minis I had completed this week. Yet insomnia can be a real friend at times. Thanks Curt for extending the deadline by a day as it did help.

More importantly thanks again to Curt of being mad enough to run this one more time. I feel that having the minions did alleviate the enormity of the task but it still must have been a big ask to all, to both overview and comment on all of the painted minis. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and wish all that take part a happy year ahead painting more and hopefully gaming with your new toys.

I don't have time to gather all my challenge entries into one shot but who knows maybe on my club's blog as a way to get the rest of the club motivated. Plus I sold a couple of bits and bobs so they will miss out in the group photo shoot.

Well enough waffling and on with the image dump.

back
Well all up that's 33 X 28mm at 5 points and 23 X 15mm cav at 4 points I think thats 280 points, pushing me 100+ points over the 900 point total I wanted to achieve. Sadly Phillip, Alex's Dad is not quite complete but by the end of next week I hope to have it bagged up and on the way to Canada. Hmm, I always thought Alex conquered the known world, now it looks like Phillip starts in the UK goes to Australia and then winds up in Canada......................

Once more thanks for the motivation to shrink the lead and platic pile further.

Oh and to any rivet counters out there I do know a bunch of the Brits are actually WWI minis but I always loved the excentricity displayed in a "A Bridge to Far" with the unbrella wielding lieutentant, thus in keeping with this I thought why not add some WWI officers and such to the Brits, after all I'm keeping these.

From Minion Tamsin
What a superb mixed bag for your final entry. Lovely paintwork.
I'm scoring the Vickers and the mortar as foot figures so that will be 267 points but I'm adding some points for the hand-painted shields to take you up to 280.
It's been good having you along for the ride :)

From ChrisH - A few more Naps (326 Points)

Well as CanCon nears for us in the Antipodes my speed painting is getting into gear so that I can sell the odd mini and well buy more of course. As my preferred miniatures are historical I wanted to do a few more Napoleonics to rush through a few more points. Work is about to recommence and thus I will run out of time to do too many more. So first up another unit of Austrians and a nice little gun to go with them and some single based British from the Peninsular period. Finally another Zombie hunter just for fun and well I had some extra grey paint to use up and not waste.

Campaign style Austrians 2nd battalion for this challenge

Victirx rather than Perry's this time

I used a matt varnish with a dot of black to give them that gritty look

Love the gun the crew were not quite Victirx or Perry

Victrix Brits

Maybe for Sharpes Practice 2nd edition????

zombie Hunter 3

Overhanging grass could do with a mow

So Points wise 36 + 5 + 21 +1 all times by 5 and 10 for the gun should be about 325 I think. Still having fun so thanks for looking.

Okaaay, the Saturday bombing run continues...
Fantastic work Chris. Your Austrian infantry continues to wow and that artillery piece looks the business. I always have a hard time getting enthused about painting artillery so I'm always impressed when I see others do a good job on them. Those British look very smart as well and I agree that they will be great for Sharpe Practice. (2nd Edition? When is this happening?)
Your 'Austrian Zombie Hunter' is excellent (a great use of 'spare paint'), though she somehow seems far too dynamic to be from that race - maybe a huge bicorne, baggage train and a chestful of medals will slow her down. ;P
These 325 points vaults you forward to smash through your initial 500 point target (what were you thinking when you set that target?!). Congratulations Chris! Well done! Now I need you to set a revised goal to keep you dashing to the finish line.

From ChrisH - 28mm Napoleonic Austrian Infantry (181 Points)

As promised in my last post I needed to do some historical miniatures for a) sanity sake and b) with an eye to sell them some where down the track. I prefer ancient and medieval figures but have not got around to preping much up of late so Naps it is. Oh by the way Tamsin there will not be a great flurry of unit after unit of white clad minis coming from me unlike another year and another entrant.

I prefer the dirty campaign look rather than pristine as I always feel that 3 days marching up a road in a white uniform would leave it somewhat well.............less white.

I tried a new technique (Gloss varnish then white spirit or shellite in Australia with black and brown oil paint, then removed with a cotton wool bud) with this lot but found the varnish I used was too sticky and it took the fluff from my cotton wool buds. Thus an extra two hours of fluff removal has me fondly desiring to return to an old and trusted technique. Matt varnish with a drop of black or brown as a "Super Wash".

36 minis at 5 points should net me 180 points.
Yawn... Stretch... Sorry folks. I was up waaay too late and slept in. The trouble of a middle aged man who still enjoys keeping teenage hours.
OKAY! Espresso in hand, glasses on face - let's get to it.
Whoa. Beautiful work Chris. This is a nice beefy unit, which I guess it should be if it's Austrian. I imagine it tromping out of some depot in Austria with the men thinking that it will be THIS TIME, this time for sure that they will send that little Corsican packing. I really like the campaign look you've gone with and your groundwork is great. I dunno, That finishing technique you describe with the cotton wool sounds kinda fussy. Anything where you have to brush on and wipe off makes me cringe, as I know I would probably completely botch it up.
Are these Perry plastics? The models themselves look very nice.
180 points, but I'm going to pop in another for the flag.  Well done Chris!
