From PaulS: Wars of the Ghosties (110 points)

This week has been limited to finishing off a few bits and pieces for units or kits that were started last year, or earlier in this round.

When I first started the Wars of the Roses/Lion Rampant force last year, I intended to create two small forces. Unfortunately I never got around to creating the other force last year, though I did stick together the plastics. So we now have 12 foot knights for the Earl of Stafford.

There were complaints about too much grass on the ones last time around, so this year they come with some added mud and flowers. I have, however, just noticed that I forgot to edge the bases, so they look a bit scrappy. Dammit.

These four are some initial figures for the other foot units for the Stafford force.

After I posted the cowboy ghosts last month, moaning about how bad they were and I was grateful to have painted them... in typical foot/mouth style I found another 6 in the box with all the game cards. Doh! At least this time I'm done with them... until the missing sprues show up in the KS wave 2 that is :/

That is another 22 28mm figures for the tally. As I went past my original total weeks ago, I need to really up it to 1200 for the new aim. Co-incidentally, this is the 1200th post according to the post tally in the editor, so go team!

I also need to get back to Frostgrave related things as well as sorting out a little surprise.

Very nice work Paul. Isn't it always the way? You think you've finished a project, then a while later you find something you had forgotten to paint. That's 110 points towards your new target. I hate to break it to you, but this will be the 1197th post published, not the 1200th - so close, so close...

From PaulS - 28mm Critter Tuesday (85 points)

This week has mostly been spent painting critters to overwhelm heroic adventurers, whether they are deep in a dungeon, or stalking the ruins of a cold, ruined city.

The 9 rats and 6 bats came from the Dungeon Saga kickstarter and came with a selection of spiders as well, but those are still lurking on the painting table as we're both slightly arachnophobic ;)

The figures are all resin and, surprisingly, really nicely sculpted, with some great dynamic poses. The bats are insanely fragile though as the colonies of bats are only held together by the wings touching each other. I accidentally snapped two of these while painting them, they are that fragile. Thankfully, some superglue came to the rescue. I've added Sven the Viking as a scale point for these critters.

Speaking of scale... at the other end of the spectrum I also finally got round to painting Goliath. This is one of the end bosses from Shadows of Brimstone. Like most of the other monsters from SoB, the detail is soft and it needed a lot of filling and resculpting... but he looks pretty imposing now he's finished. That base he's on? That's 70mm... he's one biiiiig critter. Sven once again provides a scale reference.

So that is 9 rats, 6 bats and one Goliath to add to the totals. Only the giant rats count towards the Frostgrave totals sadly

Lovely work as always Paul. Hmmm, how to score these? Given that I've been scoring halflings as full 28mm foot figures, I think the rats and bats should be as well. As for Goliath, I'm going to score him as a 28mm mounted.

From PaulS - Mixed Bag of Monsters (36 Points)

This entry is a mixed bag of figures as a number of figures are still drying, or need to be repaired after a varnish fail... so not quite what I wanted to have done this week... but it does give Aidan (and anyone else) a chance to catch up on the Dungeon Saga side challenge.

First up we have the banshee from DS, which leaves one of the core set villains left to paint and 6 armoured undead. The banshee is quite a nice sculpt, with the exception of blobby hands and will see a lot of use in various game systems (including Frostgrave).

As a change, I decided to try some of the Dungeon Saga demons. These guys are the same size as the undead trolls and act as their equivalent in the demonic campaign. Again, very nice models to paint, though some of the seams are tricky to clean off as the plastic is slightly bendy. If the Kings of War ones are as nicely sculpted, they should be great models... not that I need any more of them. They will also be nice large size demons for Frostgrave. These guys suffered from a partial varnish fail. You can see the white marbling on the back of the middle demon; though in this case it adds to the texture rather than obscuring detail; so not so much a fail as an unexpected detailing!

Last and definitely least are two of the ghosts from Shadows of Brimstone. These figures are some of the worst I've had the misfortune to work with. The detail is shockingly soft, which makes them ugly lumps... so a quick ghost paintjob was done at the same time as the DS banshee to get them out of the way. There are two more around somewhere that will turn up later when I find them. Scale wise they are only useful in Shadows of Brimstone as they are 1/48 (ish), which makes them really tall when compared to any other Old West figures that I have.

Lovely work Paul! The demons are great but I have to say I really like your undead. I know you've probably mentioned it before but what do you use as your colours for these? They look wonderfully ethereal.
I have a suspicion that those demons are around 40mm so I'll score them as such. 36 points total. Well done!
