Just a small post this week using up some Legio Heroica 15mm Muslims. I have a Muslim Crusader period army so these were left over from that. 

I am hoping to use the Muslim Crusader Army as the Muslim armies in Spain as they are fairly generic. However, apart from the Mamelukes, I have painted the outstanding figures as Muslims more specific to Spain. 

There are six cavalry units, each of 9 mounted figures and one unit of infantry, 16 figures.

I am about a third of the way through another army, but I'm not sure I'll get it finished before the end of the challenge, as I am away most of next week, but I will try and post what is done before I go.

TeemuL: How many armies have you painted during this challenge, Grahame? This is a pretty one, once again. The strong blues especially contrasts nicely on the arid bases, which look very real to me by the way. Looking forward the next week what you have managed to finish!

From GrahameH: Spanish Reconquista 15mm Legio Heroica and Modern French Foreign Legion (666 points)

As mentioned in my last posted I had decided to start an Impetus army after listening to the brilliant interview of of Lorenzo Sartori on the Yarkshire Gamers Podcast (a second plug for you Ken, not that you probably need it). 

Sartori is the Italian author of the Impetus rule set, and as I was struggling to decide what to paint next, listening to the interview was rather fortuitous. Hence a Impetus army made by an Italian figure manufacturer. 

The army however, is Spanish so the theme seemed to die off a bit here. All the figures are 15mm Legio Heroica, sadly it would seem no longer in production after the passing of the owner. The mounted units are made up of 9 mounted figures and the infantry 16. 

The Spanish Reconquista Army 

Its a smallish army consisting of 10 mounted units and 6 infantry. 

The Generals 

One C-in-C and two sub generals (28pts)

Two Hildalgos Units (Basically mounted Knights) (72pts) 

Two more Hildalgos Units (72pts)

I have added Spanish shields to these as they figures are from the Crusade Range and they came with kite and round shields.

French Foreign Legion (FFL).

Yet again, Peter Pig tempted me with a discount voucher just before the challenge. Having no will power whatsoever I purchased some Modern French Foreign Legion figures. Then realised I would need some transport for them. So, while the Reconquistas bases were drying I painted the vehicles below.

And one AMX 10 (8pts)

TeemuL: It is a wonder! Me, Grahame and Spreadsheet all agree on the total points of this entry, woohoo! And what else can we expect from Grahame, than army and more in one post. :) Great brushwork once again and lots of details on shields and banners (be they freehand, sculpted and/or transfers) which will grant you some bonus points. Very nice and colourful units in your Spanish army and your modern vehicles look spot on, too. I believe you are struggling to figure out what to (buy and) paint for the last two weeks of the Challenge? Any good discounts in sight?

From AlexK: Climbing the summit of Snowlord's peak (78 points)

Just in the nick of time and with the smell of fresh paint still lingering in the air I present my final post of the challenge. The Snowlord challenged me to paint another unit for my ancient Arab army to finish off the challenge island and so with a quick look through the box of lead I found some 15mm Legio Heroica spear men. 

As usual they are really nice, characterful figures and they painted up nice and quickly. I think they should have shields, but they seem to have disappeared into another box of bits so will be added when they decide to reappear. I'll be using them as Spear Inferior in DBMM so the lack of shield shouldn't look out of place to start with.

So hopefully this fulfils my challenge criteria and I think it should gain me 78 points, 48 for the 24 15mm spear men and 30 points for the location.

Great work Alex! These are so nice that at first I thought they were 28s. Lovely, crisp brushwork here with a nice variation in colours and poses to keep the eye entertained.

Too bad about the walkabout shields. I can only imagine the shame of being classified as 'shield inferior'. 'I swear I saw it by the tent when I went to bed.' How will they ever live it down? Unfortunately, probably with a nasty arrow where their shield should be...

Hi all,

This week I give you one of those posts that should be titled "when did I buy these!?" posts. I'm sure we've all been in the position of uncovering boxes that have long been forgotten about and that contain unidentified packets of figures. This is how I came to paint this week's subject matter of some 15mm Essex camelry and a Legio Heroica mounted commander.

The figures are lovely to paint, the Essex camels almost paint themselves and the Legio figures are full of character. The banner is homemade using tomato puree tube foil (lots of tomato based dinners have also be consumed over the last week).

Very nice Alex, Dave D should be watching out for you, you'll be overtaking him as CamelCing in no time. I really like the natural and subdued colours you use and these fit together well. The command base ties in well but is, at the same time, clearly recognisable; all in all a great job. As per Minions discretion I will award you 2 more points for the home-made banner and thus you will be gaining 50 points tonight.

Hi all,

Another week, another post. The challenge is working out perfectly, my painting production has increased dramatically. It turns out I quite like a deadline and no one is more surprised than I.

So to this week's offering. I have for you a selection of 32 x 15mm Sudanese archers from Legio Heroica which have been sat on the painting pile way too long. I'm assuming my lack of commitment will be rewarded with awful die rolls when they see battle for the first time.

As always the Legio sculpts were nice and full of character. They mix very well with my Essex figures.

These are some awesome archers Alex. I love the way in which you have painted each one of them an individualized paintjob yet have maintained an uniform look for the unit as a whole. One can imagine wave upon wave of arrows flying from them into the enemy ranks. Well done!

I thought I had finished my armies for the Crusades apart from a set of club men I found last week. However, having gone through my lead pile I found a load more of figures I couldn't remember buying !!!

Oh well they all needed painting if I was to finish my Crusade armies. So having done so hopefully I have at last finished it (although you can never be certain).

Wow, what a treat Grahame! Your Muslims and Armenians for the Crusades look great,very colourful without being garish. The pilgrims look suitably dour in comparison. And even more Cold War Russians sneaking in at the end.  

93 infantry by my count, and 18 cavalry, plus six flags. A respectable 264 points for you this week!
