The Strange Circus of Dr. Namirha

Here's the last of the bat shit crazy tales from the August 1952 issue of Forbidden Worlds #8 --and yikes, what an issue! Also, check the last 3 story posts, as well as King Ward's awesome "The Eyes of Death" in the 2008 archive too. Okay, so today's carnival of creeps was originally intended for a larger project I'm currently working on (details coming soon), but it didn't quite make the final cut, mostly because of the unfortunately sloppy coloring / print job. Anyway, it's still certainly a fun entry in the circus "freaks" scream of things, though I sure would love to have seen more of the Seal Girl at the bottom of page 2! Roughly squeaking, if you're like me, and a fan of 40's Warner Brothers cartoons, then you might just leave this one with the memorable "You're a gazelle..." line stuck in your horny little head. PLUS! An Oliver Cromwell bonus for you history buffs.

Wings of Horror

It's Bram Stoker's 165th birthday today, and around here that means it's bloodsucker time! Wings of Horror, from the October 1951 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #24, is a simply told Al Camy tale of unleashed vampirism and lurking madness, and includes a rare and very welcome, non kissy closing panel finale that also proves the usual heavy handed ACG word balloons and intrusive narrative are sometimes unnecessary.

Tour of Horror / Rivals unto Death!

TGIF peeps, and what a week! So let's top it all off today with two ACG tales for the price of one. Both of these shock spookers come from the May 1954 issue of Forbidden Worlds #29. Our first atmospheric story, Tour of Horror, is by Al Camy and George Klein, while our shorter, second tale, Rivals unto Death, is a nice bit o' great Bob Forgione filler.

The Graveyard Wanderer

“Stupidest Killers Weekend” Day Two! So you think yesterday’s brainiac was stupid, wait’ll you get a load of the two geniuses in today’s ACG sidesplitter. Practically every page of this story is a scream as our two ridiculous bumblers overdose on the bumbles to the point of extreme hilarity. Even the cops in this one (who prefer to shoot first and ask questions later) are complete and utter imbeciles. I’ve read this story a few times now and continue to wonder if it was actually meant as a comedy, though it’s definitely funnier if it wasn’t.

FYI: I'm going to search the long boxes soon and see if I can claw up some more numbskullery for another, longer version of this theme... too much fun for just a weekend. And if anyone has any suggestions (good, or preferably bad) let me know.
