The She-Beast

We're heading back into the teeming, screaming jungle for another eerie, horror adventure encounter, and this time with the monstrously macabre maiden "REPTA" via the slithery, September 1953 issue of Horrific #7. And of course Marty Elkins art is always a welcome addition to the THOIA Archive, but just to further spice things up around here with something different, Mr. Karswell also welcomes the wild and wonderful work of master illustrator, Ruth Marten --see her incredible Alligator Girl painting at the end of this post! I also highly recommend her superb monograph collection, Ruth Marten: All About Eve, edited by Ina Dinter.

The Cobras

We've been looking at some deadly serious crime horror tales for a few posts now, and it's time for one more! But let's throw a little bit more fun on the fire and make it a Mr. and Mrs. Chase mystery in an old haunted mansion! Adding to the recipe: a gang of Bowery Boy wannabes who call themselves "The Cobras", sprinkled with some eye poppin' leggy / bondage good girl art, plus a few mad cap monsters mixed into the maniacal Lou Morales mayhem, and you have yourself one heckuva crazy wild ride from the Jan. '53 issue of Crime and Justice #11. This should've been turned into an old B-movie!

The Whisper of Egypt

Here's a weird little Egyptian oddity recommended to me by "anonymous", featuring a particularly vicious panel of gory crocodile violence. I'm not sure I would have recognized this as Dick Briefer art, if not for the mysterious, sunken-eyed man who shows up at the bottom of page two (he looks distinctly Briefer-esque and right out of Dick's Frankenstein comic series!) Anyway, it's a fun little filler tale from the August 1952 issue of Airboy #102. Everyone have a nice xmas?

Snatcher

A funny little Charlton creature quickie, from the July 1976 issue of Scary Tales #6-- warning you to keep your greedy little mitts off of other people's property!

Genuine Alligator

If you thought Roger and Karen were a hoot in our last post, wait'll you get a load of Elmer and Bertha in today's story! Another gem from the October '53 issue of Mystery Tales #16, and with art by Myron Fass, this is one 3 page quickie that will surely get your day off with a rousing start *burp!

Bride of the Swamp

Time to head back into the swamp where awaits another sexy blonde with a whole different set of "issues." This one’s for the commenter last month who requested a “reptilian menace, whether mutated monsters or grisly alligator death!” Thanks for being so specific! I think I actually covered all 3 bases with this one too.
