Bride and Gloom

The final story in the September 1972 issue of Sabrina the Teen-Age Witch #8 looked awfully similar in style to the brand spankin' other new supernatural Archie title on shelves that same month and year-- "Chilling Adventures in Sorcery as Told By Sabrina" (see links below.) And it's no wonder, as this issue used the last 12 pages to introduce readers to a slightly more adult, more terrifying look into the world of Archies Comics, (while also plugging the new series with an ad.) It's great stuff, expertly illustrated and surprisingly grim for the audience it was geared at. Even so, last time I posted stuff like this here, I got a barrage of comments (non published, thank you) from people who assured me that they were much too cool for this sort of thing. Please let me assure you before you bother flapping your heads again, that you are in fact not. And to those of you who understand that this blog is called The Horrors of it ALL, enjoy!

The Boy Who Cried Vampire / Behold the Beast

Concluding our look into the terrific two-issue series of Archies style teenage terrors, from the September 1972 issue of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery as Told By Sabrina #1DeCarlo and Goldberg seriously had a good thing going here with this expertly illustrated / written series (see our last post as well for issue #2 in its entirety), and it's a shame it ended so soon-- though Sabrina of course continued on well into the 80's with her own fun 'n frisky witch comics! And don't forget to check out the other two stories from this issue by clicking HERE after you've read these two-- hope you've enjoyed this look into a somewhat slightly lighter side of The Horrors of it All!

Ultimate Cure / Measure of the Monster

We're still spinnin' out the tales of spooky sorcery at THOIA-- as well as over at my other blog HERE -- so are you too cool to handle the terrors of BOTH issues of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery (as told by Sabrina?!) This was a frighteningly fun but super short lived Archies spin-off series of pre/post code inspired horror tales concerning mad science, monsters, and the supernatural, featuring cool 'n clean, funny illustrations by Dan DeCarlo and Stan Goldberg, plus inks from John D'Agostino and Rudy Lapick... I really wish there were more than 2 issues! And for what essentially seems to be a comic geared towards younger readers, some of these tales have wonderfully grim, downbeat endings. So read on, today we have half of the stories from the October 1972 issue of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery As Told By Sabrina #2, and when you're done here head on over to AEET by clicking HERE for the other half! I'll have issue #1 in our next post!
