Kronos--Zagros--Eborak!

Some of you may have pondered: "When did Mr. Karswell first get hooked on Satan?" And the answer comes via the very first time I read a DC horror comic yarn illustrated by the ever fearsome, Frank Thorne! More precisely, the August 1976 issue of House of Mystery #244. This wildly wicked story is overloaded with great Kashdan moments: a sinister brainwashing ceremony, half-nude cult cuties, a kick ass kung-fu fight in a steam bath, and a final page with more clever twists than a pentagram shaped pretzel! If you've never read this one, you're in for a treat. And a very special "Kronos--Zagros--Eborak" to those of you lovin' that diabolically demonic Luiz Dominguez cover below, too!

THOIA'S 2025 Holiday Horror Special

If you enjoyed our horrible holiday double feature over at AEET HERE yesterday, it's now time for another right here at THOIA! And this year we're looking at the age old Ghost Stories for Christmas, and with nobody telling a spookier tale than Charles Dickens himself! Well actually, let's have golden age fan favorite, Lee Elias tell it-- the way it could've happened, or did it?! --via the March / April 1976 issue of Ghosts #46. But first up, it's another doomed-out variation on the Dicken's lit classic drama-rama, from the March 1953 issue of Marvel Tales #112, and highlighted by some spectacularly illustrated Larry Woromay specters! I guess you can't really celebrate anything anymore either unless we get a nice Bill Everett cover as well! Yes, this post has everything-- including a well wish for everyone to have a wonderful, happy holiday!

Mangled in Madness

Springtime of course means spider-time in my neck of the woods, so let's weave up a creepy crawly, Silver Age classic from the Sept-October 1978 issue of The Unexpected #187. Be sure to slip into something a little more comfortable first though-- todays tale is a real drainer!

Fire Dance

An apology awaits as I know it's been awhile since our last post, but sinister scanner issues (as well as my teenage son who's now on summer vacation and creating his own video game) have allowed me very little time on my own damn computer! But now, finally, we'll leap forward a bit into the silver age of horror comics for another weirdly mysterious tale, this time about the mother of all moths, from the June 1975 issue of Weird Mystery Tales #19, highlighted by a spooky Luiz Dominguez cover, and eerie interior art by Abe Ocampo. Today's special post is also dedicated to another ravishingly lovely moth I know ;) enjoy-- lots more on the way this summer, I promise!
