The Bloodless Killer

We ended March with some macabre madness from the May 1953 issue of Fight Against Crime #13, so let's kick off the new month with another story from the same old rotten rag! And like the other tale, this one also includes an "axe-citing" climax of creeptacular choppery! Some fun art by A.C. Hollingsworth too, he's usually real hit / miss with me, but he honestly delivers some pretty good visuals this time around, even if most of them feel like swipes from other comics.

Two Heads Are Better Than One

Many people have referred to the horror comics of the 50's as "disposal entertainment", and maybe that's true, but occasionally precode comics also offered invaluable information over the years as well-- like in this story from the May 1953 issue of Fight Against Crime #13. Did you know that the apparent old Chinese custom of burying fish heads in your garden helps to create wonderful fertilizer? Now you do. And if you've also read the title of todays post, then you probably already know exactly where this smarty written, predictably awesome crime creeper is (be)headed!

Two-of-a-Kind! / Double Trouble

As we've seen over the years around here, sometimes the crime comics can actually out horror even the most horrific horror comics, and today's deadly double beheader from the July 1954 issue of Fight Against Crime #20 is no exception! A real two-of-a-kind with some serious double trouble, not to mention the SOTI worthy cover art (!!!) is just the icing on the severed head cake! GCD has no artist information on either story or the cover, unfortunately... anybody know anything?

Shadows of Death

As promised, here's another fright-filled fight against creepy, reekin' crime-- from the March 1954 issue of Fight Against Crime #18. The Poe-esque story concept and freaky deeky art by Jon D'Agostino is made only more bizarre by the occasional off-register coloring here which seems to somehow add to the spooky shenanigans! Maybe put on a pair of 3D glasses and see if anything extra eerie happens...

Dead Fish!

As we saw in our last post, the ladies have seriously had it with the men! I can't say I blame them-- we're all idiots!-- and todays post from the November 1953 issue of Fight Against Crime #16 is further validation of this fact. Superb art by Doug Wildey gives this story some extra added bite too, hee hee!

MORE CRIME HORROR ON THE WAY...

Trapped!

Somewhere in the THOIA Archives is another pre-code publisher rip-off of EC's Shock Suspenstories #9 classic "Carrion Death!" but I'll be damned if I can find it or remember what it's called (with well over 1300 untagged posts now, it's hard to keep up with stuff like this!) Anyway, I'm pretty sure it was good, but possibly not as great or as relentlessly grueling as this version from Fight Against Crime #17 (1954) which features endless cruelty, child murder, a word balloon without words (?!) and vultures cannibalizing the living and the dead in gorious four-color detail. Thanks again to Brian Hirsch for this one, as well as our previous heartless post too!

Heartless!

Post-holiday posts usually feature some of THOIA's most anticipated stories, especially so to our more "deadicated" readers who (as usual) recently had your own hearts ripped out by loved ones that didn't deliver on the xmas goodies you had hoped for this year! Yep, that's why we're here to deliver-- plus! with a little help from my buddy Brian Hirsch you know you're in for something that'll leave you clutching your chest in terror! Take for example this pulse-pounding yarn from Fight Against Crime #17 (1954.)
