Come Share My Coffin Tomb!

Our month of dueling Two-For-One Fear Features continues with a petrifyin' pair of terror tales that are really asking a lot from you, dear readers! Yes, come along with us now as we attempt to make some rotten room for a couple of certifiably creepy, cramped companion classics! And Pete Tumlinson kicks it off with an ever familiar, eerie escape trick that is most certainly doomed to backfire every time, guaranteed! From the May 1954 issue of Strange Tales #28, plus a special paralyzin' applause for that superbly scary cover design by Harry Anderson! Then it's Mort Meskin's turn to amp up the mausoleum madness with an apparently "true" crime case from the September - October 1951 issue of Headline Comics #49, via Prize Comics. Yep, THOIA is unloading a hot, double dose of COME atcha this time around-- better bring some Kleenex! Wait, what? They're both tear-jerkers, I meant...

I Was Trapped in Horror House!

Again with a first person titled post-code freak-out tale this week, --because it's all about YOU, dear doomed reader, muhhh-hahah, --featuring awesome art by yet another pre-code horror legend, and this time it's petrifyin' Paul Reinman leading the journey into jolting terror! We'll definitely be visiting a few more haunted houses before the month is out, so get ready for some serious spook overload! From the July 1960 issue of Journey into Mystery #59.

R.I.P. Bob Fujitani (1921 - 2020)

The comic world loses yet another artist legend, Bob Fujitani passed away earlier this week, and today we honor his wonderful work with an encore presentation of two Atlas horror classics already found in the THOIA Archive. Our first selection is from the Spring 1952 issue of Suspense #16, and the second originally featured in the September 1952 issue of Mystic #12. Dugan and the Dummy / If I Breathe... I Die!

We're picking up where we left off last month with two more tales from the May 1953 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #18. And since it's that giving time of the year, I thought I'd do something around here that I haven't done in a long long time and deliver a Double Header December! Yep, two stories every time I post this month-- that's an early xmas present to everyone who continues coming back, commenting, and basically just contributing to this blog in a civil, useful, positive manner. And first up, a super slick Larry Woromay / Matt Fox team-up of terror, followed by a jittery jailbird jolter with awesome art courtesy of our good pal, Hy Fleischman, who coincidentally enough, just turned 90 years young last month-- HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HY!!

Lots more on the way-- stay tombed!

Escape to Death!

A sneak escape from jail, via hiding in a coffin, is an oft-told theme in horror comics with an oft-familiar conclusion. We've seen it happen oft-times here at THOIA over the years, and this time it's from the Oct '53 issue of Dark Mysteries #14, art by Jon D'Agostino.
