House of Blood / Junk Man's Treasure

Thai student "MP" writes in requesting an Eerie Publications remake called House of Blood with art by Ruben Marchionne. Unfortunately, I didn't have it, but a quick screech for help to Mike "Weird World of Eerie Publications" Howlett and suddenly we are in business! Howler's scans come from the January 1972 issue of Horror Tales Vol. 4 #1-- and since the story itself is so short, I thought I'd round it out with an encore presentation of the original precode version (as featured here at THOIA back in 2007) called Junk Man's Treasure, from the August 1954 issue of Out of the Shadows #14.

Zombie Magic! / Thing from the Grave

Despite the oddly cool science fiction cover painting (and not a single story even remotely approaching S/F within the pages inside), the May 1971 issue of Horror Tales Vol. 3 #3 is chock full of gruesome goodies... take for example these two terrifying yarns about the living dead. From the contents page intro: "The stench of the open grave comes to life..."

["Zombie Magic" is a remake of "Corpses On Cue", which was posted to THOIA after this story's posting. Read it here! -- Nequam]

The Monster / Curse of the Vampire

Last month at Mykal's Bloody Pulp, he posted a cool Eerie Publications text story called Xebico that stirred up some "boy's club" comments because of the accompanying illustration that clearly shows a woman's bare breast and areola (click HERE.) One of his commentors asked about the frequency of "exposed female breasts" and it was answered as a possible Eerie Pub "rare sighting." Not to be one who rubs boobies in anyone's face, today we have two Eerie Pub stories also featuring briefly exposed female breasts, first-- "The Monster" is from the July 1974 issue of Tales from the Tomb Vol. 6 #4, (and coincidentally enough also a remake of the pre-code Harvey story I featured in our last post, aka "Transformation!") Our bloody back-up feature "Curse of the Vampire" is from the July 1971 issue of Horror Tales Vol. 3 #4 and also contains some memorable mammaries.

Bird of Prey! >>> Nightmare

"He wanted to make the future secure for his offspring, but his plan turned into a bloody bedlam of shock!" says the contents page for "Nightmare" from the September 1970 issue of Horror Tales Vol. 2 #5. This is yet another 70's remake from Eerie Publications of a Golden Age Harvey pre-code story, and since we haven't done a side-by-side comparison in awhile, let's see the original Abe Simon version first, aka: "Bird of Prey!" from the April 1953 issue of Witches Tales #18... note how both versions deliver on that devastatingly gruesome climax!
