Deathmask for the Living

We're less than a week away from the big day, and if you haven't popped on over to your local Halloween vendor yet, then you still have a little time to get yourself that perfect mask and costume! Perfect that is, unless you go here... from the May - June 1977 issue of The Unexpected #179.

Mangled in Madness

Springtime of course means spider-time in my neck of the woods, so let's weave up a creepy crawly, Silver Age classic from the Sept-October 1978 issue of The Unexpected #187. Be sure to slip into something a little more comfortable first though-- todays tale is a real drainer!

Phantom of the Disco

THINGS THAT GO AND DO THE BUMP IN THE NIGHT DEPT: Yes, it's Saturday, and if tonight you find that you have the fever for the flavor of something frightening, --then you've hustled on over to the right place! Okay, maybe this post isn't that frightening, but this fun 'n funky attempt by DC at cashing in on a particularly popular, nightclub cultural movement of the time, and in an eerie sort of three-page quickie (aka the July 1980 issue of Ghosts #90), really doesn't seem completely lost, or at all out of place for this comic book / music lover, --and I always appreciate a good polyester pair-up, haha. So come on everybody, --get down tonight!

Bride of Satan

Flash Forward to the satanic 70's, and here's an evil classic conjured up by George Kashdan and Vicente Alcazar for the December 1974 issue of Witching Hour #49. Also, for anyone looking for HAUNTED HORROR #6 this week (as incorrectly reported), it'll actually be in stores next week on Sept 4th!

Village of the Vile

The June 1974 issue of The Witching Hour #43 clearly states on the cover "Village of Evil", but instead inside the lead-off story is "Village of the Vile", one of the many cool horror tales written by George Kashdan for DC Comics (and to make things even more memorable the art is provided by the great Alfred P. Alcala!) We're winding down Devilcember, and this is it for our "Flash Forward" detour into the Satanic Silver Age, as well as our shiver inducing glimpse into The Witching Hour series, hope everyone enjoyed it!

Eegads--- more cat cruelty?!! Maybe it really is time to end this Witching Hour fest! It is interesting though to note how popular Satanism was in mainstream comics during this era. Hell, even Superman and Lois Lane turned up the heat in a few issues!

When Satan Comes A-Creeping!

If you were uncomfortable with the brutal amount of violence towards cats in our last post, you may want to altogether skip today's tale from the Dec '71 /Jan '72 issue of The Witching Hour #18. And in case you missed the news, (along with the continuation of our Hail Satan Month) all this week THOIA is also "Flash Forwarding" into the horrific Silver Age with tales from DC's excellent Witching Hour series. There's lots more on the way too, plus a few other surprises!
