No Place to Hide Under the Earth!

Werewolf Wednesday is extra weird this week! And it's so weird in fact, that today's second story in our ongoing Double Feature series this month isn't even about werewolves! And you'll have to dig deeply into it to see just how exactly weird it really is, as Chuck Winter assumes nobody has ever seen a mole before! But worry not, cuz it's still a wild one, via the March 1954 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #25! But first up, Ed Robbins gives his wack-a-doodle wolfman the hideous head of a bat --yep, it's a terror tale that's just as beastly bonkers as it is totally batty! From the October 1954 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #31. And if that isn't hairy-scary enough for ya, be sure to head over to AEET and check-out another weird werewolf mash-up HERE!

The Dead Witch!

I feel like a few of you thought the previous post was our last entry of 2025, --well not bloody likely! And yes, behind that grisly Sol Brodsky graveyard of terror cover, via the April 1952 issue of Suspense #17, there's a few more scary stories we still plan to finish out the year with! For starters, this weird 'n witchy Dick Ayers / Ernie Bache team-up, written by Hank Chapman. And how great is that Mort Gerberg gag? hahaha!

The Girl in the Grave!

Hard to believe we haven't seen a Cal Massey story around here in half a decade, so let's fix that grave error with a grave error terror entry from the December 1952 issue of Uncanny Tales #4! Cough! Cough! Don't open that coffin! (Classic over art by super Sol Brodsky.)

White on Black!

Wait, did you think we were done with Louis Ravielli in our last post? Not bloody likely! Yep, I have one more wonderfully illustrated tale for you, this time from the October 1953 issue of Strange Tales #23 --one that will surely send you all into a negative state of doom development! Okay, this was a hard one to clean up, yellowed pages don't fit well with a story told in this B/W manner, and I tried my hardest to make everything presentable so that the whole point of the story makes sense. (If you're not happy with what I've done here, that's on you. No apologies from me.) But if you're still hanging around afterwards and want another camera themed tale from this exact same issue, no less, then head over to AEET HERE afterwards for a dark room romp, and even a slice or two of cheesecake for dessert! *wink! The Mummy Walks

We haven't had an anti-commie laugh fest in a while around here (or a mummy tale!), so let's kill two bonkers birds with one silly story in this confusingly cornball classic from the May 1954 issue of Crazy #6. Sol Brodsky does his Mad Magazine-esque best with the madcap material, so don't blame me...

The Torture Master!

The November 1953 issue of Men's Adventures #24 contains this grueling Russ Heath illustrated concentration camp terror tale about nazi experiment atrocities and torture, proving once again that historical based facts can most certainly be much more horrific than fiction.

The Empty Coffin / The Madman

My plan is to keep you all spellbound for the month of April here at THOIA, so lets dive into another great issue of terror tales, and this time we'll kick things off with a deadly double feature from the January 1953 issue of Spellbound #11. And wait a sec, didn't we just have a story called "The Madman" last month?! We sure did, but here's another one because as mentioned before, Stan LOVED recycling story titles. Another thing these two tales have in common: unwitting saps who somehow failed to see the much bigger, much more petrifying picture. And don't scream too loudly over that scary Sol Brodsky cover illustration either-- EEEEK!!!
