Cinderella

Time for one of the most gruesome fairy tale freak-outs ever produced during the precode 50's, via the February 1954 issue of The Thing #12. And this one comes from dependable 'ol Steve Ditko, no less, demonstrating, as usual, his dynamically deadly, dense sense of panel packin' punch. I mean it when I say that every single page here is seriously overflowing with a fangtastic amount of ferociousness and fear. And you leg lovers look-out, because this one also has one of the most luridly loose-limbed shock endings in all of Charlton comic's history. Classic cover art by good 'ol Steve, as well!

Curse of Karnak

Wow, it's already Mummy Monday again, --time to open up another time-rotted tomb of ancient horrors! And this one is absolutely loaded with eerie Egyptian god freaks, as well as various bad decisions on the parts of our heroes. But it's a fast paced, fun yarn none the less, plus Bob Forgione (again already, too!) adds a healthy dose of cleavage to the chase so that kooky Mr. Karswak doesn't have to! On top of all that, dig the ghastly cover decap design, and rather lovely B/W table of contents page, both courtesy of Lou Morales. From the October - November 1952 issue of The Thing #5.

Hellfire of Doom

Time to wrap up Fearsome February with a devilishly hot tale, direct from the burning gates of The Thing #1 (see our previous post as Hell, errr, --as well, too!) It's another smokin' pairing of Forgione / Tyler, teaming up and screaming up our final post of the month! And along with this macabre mystery lies yet another-- a wild picture to share (courtesy of the cool ass Carny Feet facebook group), featuring the Devil's Cave, a 1960's spook house or carnival dark ride from Ohio. And good 'ol Mr. Karswell himself figured out that some of the artwork on that fabulous attraction facade appears to be lifted from a couple of precode comic book covers, no less! Take a look at the end of this post, and if you recognize that hooded / bearded gentleman also painted on there (on the left), let us know where it comes from! Nightmare

If our previous post didn't make you lose your horrible lil haunted heads, --then today's nightmarish classic absolutely cannot fail! And it's another one by Bob Forgione as well, from the February 1952 debut issue of of The Thing #1. Special note: Bob and Albert Tyler (on pencils) actually created every single piece of art in this entire, stunning issue, Yep, every story, and even that super spooky cover! What a great way to kick off a legendary Golden Age horror series!

Jibaro Madness

Jungle Jitters time again, and this creepy crawlin' Bob Forgione entry from the January 1953 issue of The Thing #6 is so unexpectedly bonkers, it might even make a few of you lose your heads! And then this happens! And then this happens! And then this happens! Ah, Charlton comics, always a'callin' my shrunken, black, short attention span heart!

Inheritance! Greed...

Everyone enjoyed the dynamically deadly Ditko story in our previous post, so how about another? Also from the June 1954 issue of The Thing #14, it's a batty tale of archeological ancient curses and double-crossin' switcheroonies! Ditko is also responsible for the amazing cover! Annnnd to top it all off, there's an extra little Tony Tallarico quickie from the February 1954 issue of The Thing #12, --containing an equal amount of ancient, ancestral atrociousness! You have most definitely been warned for like centuries now...
