What Kind of Ghoul Am I?

After a few months of grueling horrors (and a grueling holiday yesterday), I thought maybe we'd kick back and dip into some lighter spook-fare before jumping back into the gruesome gruel. So if a ride with a va-va-va-voom girl rock group up to a haunted castle full of m-m-m-monsters sounds like fun to you, then by all means, please jump in the van! If not, just come back in a few days for more of the usual. (As a reminder: This blog is called The Horrors of it ALL, so anything even remotely horror tinged is-- and always will be-- fair game.) Frankendstew

Everyone is going rightfully crazy over the new Afterlife with Archie horror comic book series (issue #2 just came out this week), it's really good, very dark and very gruesome, and definitely NOT for the kiddies, so click HERE for info about if you're not quite hip to it yet-- hey, they're even reprinting stories in the back of it from the short-lived Chilling Adventures in Sorcery series from the 70's (which we featured here at THOIA a few months back, as well as over at my other blog too.) We love the Archies around here as much as we love zombies, vamps, mummies, and saaaay Frankenstein... and with that in mind we thought it would be fun to give you a silly taste of the monstery Frankenstein side of Riverdale life, a wild bit of mad-cap mad science, with a fun male/female role reversal twist-- from the July 1974 issue of Life with Archie #147.

The Boy Who Cried Vampire / Behold the Beast

Concluding our look into the terrific two-issue series of Archies style teenage terrors, from the September 1972 issue of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery as Told By Sabrina #1. DeCarlo and Goldberg seriously had a good thing going here with this expertly illustrated / written series (see our last post as well for issue #2 in its entirety), and it's a shame it ended so soon-- though Sabrina of course continued on well into the 80's with her own fun 'n frisky witch comics! Ultimate Cure / Measure of the Monster

We're still spinnin' out the tales of spooky sorcery at THOIA-- as well as over at my other blog HERE -- so are you too cool to handle the terrors of BOTH issues of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery (as told by Sabrina?!) This was a frighteningly fun but super short lived Archies spin-off series of pre/post code inspired horror tales concerning mad science, monsters, and the supernatural, featuring cool 'n clean, funny illustrations by Dan DeCarlo and Stan Goldberg, plus inks from John D'Agostino and Rudy Lapick... I really wish there were more than 2 issues! And for what essentially seems to be a comic geared towards younger readers, some of these tales have wonderfully grim, downbeat endings.
