The Witch Burning!

Time to get October all lit up with a good 'ol witch burning from the November 1954 issue of Journey into Mystery #19. Ed Winiarski pulls out a couple of obvious Jack Davis facial swipes here and there, but still manages to conjure up a bit of odd originality as well. And like I even need to say it, but stay tombed here and at AEET for lots rots more all month...

Burton's Blood! / Blood Relation

So far this month we've had mummies, werewolves, and weird graveyard ghouls-- so let's keep the monster mash a'bashin' now with a Saturday Afternoon Vampire Double Feature! First up, Stan Lee and Bill Everett team-up for a freaky, fang-filled tale of futuristic fear, from the April 1953 issue of Menace #2 (and check out that Everett cover too!) Followed by an eerie blood suckin' quickie via Ed Winiarski and the January 1954 issue of Menace #9. Hope everyone's enjoying this menacingly macabre Atlas Fest I've apparently started...

I was bettin' you guys 'n gals would all dig more Atlas tales this month, and I was correct! So let's keep it goin' with another gruesome one from the February 1953 issue of Mystery Tales #8 (see the previous two posts as well), highlighted by even more terrifyingly top notch artwork from eerie Ed Winiarski.

It Happened in the Morgue

Time to hop, skip, and do a jittery little jump on down to the marvelous Atlas morgue of precode horror today, with an odd tale of treacherous terror from the May 1954 (final) issue of Adventures into Terror #31.

The Man Without a Body

We're sticking with Atlas for a few more posts, but now diving deep into the April 1954 issue of Marvel Tales #122, with a tale of shabby science colliding with extreme gold digging (a favorite theme among miserable pre code writers and artists apparently!) But hold the phone-- does this one end the way they usually do?

The Graveyard Ghoul! / Up from the Grave!

I think we're gonna stick with the August 1952 issue of Suspense #21 for a little while longer, it seriously contains some real gems, like today's gravely insane double feature of cemetery scares 'n silly / spooky shenanigans!
