Possessed

Very appreciative to the commenter from earlier this week who supplied an answer regarding another possible Ouija board themed comic story. And like our previous post, this one is also from the same weird Western series, the October 1963 issue of Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery #5 to be exact. It's an eerie Peppe / Toth team-up with very nice art, though with a title like "Possessed" it's kind of a shame it's not just a wee bit more scary. Still, it's a fun look at adult party games gone wrong, or is it really a blistering expose about sexual 60's pent-up housewife frustrations? Hmmm...

The Twisted Hands

We're heading back out to sea (temporarily), and our captain today is the late great, Alex Toth, steering us headlong into a bloody tale of titanic treachery and inescapable doom. The fact that this story starts out in the middle of the ocean, yet ends in the middle of the Arizona desert makes it all the more frighteningly fantastic. From the February 1953 issue of Adventures into Darkness #8.

An attractively eerie Atlas pair-up of Mike Sekowsky and most likely Mike Peppe, from the July 1952 issue of Spellbound #5. Things might remain a bit spellbinding for the next few posts, stay tombed...

The Unbeliever / Let's Go Mad

Finishing up our full-issue examination of Adventures into Darkness #13 from March 1954... and we come full circle too with another moody, Tothy tale from Sekowsky and Peppe, --man, I love the silhouette work on this one! Hope everyone enjoyed this week of scans, check the last handful of posts for the rest of the issue (which included all of the fun bonus filler pages and even the text story.)

Feast of the Ghouls / The Haunted Hotel

Not to be confused with A.C. Hollingsworth's Ghouls Feast at Midnight (click HERE for a second helping if you're still starving later), todays morbid mouthful from Sekowsky / Peppe first appeared in the March 1954 issue of Adventures into Darkness #13. Surprisingly, I haven't posted much from this issue here over the years, even though it's one of the oldest rags in my collection, so don't be surprised if we see a few more from it over the next few posts. Sound good? Yes, yes, you can stop smacking your lips now-- ugh! Included side order: an Ambrose Bierce, one-page quickie illustrated by Gene Fawcett... Standard was always good for interesting comic book filler such as this.
