Instead of constantly refreshing my social media accounts to take in the horror that is the Los Angeles fire right now -- and here is a good rundown of places too donate to if you're doing the same and feeling helpless; I also recommend buying one of these Parks & Rec themed charity posters from Bottleneck Gallery, with the 100% of the proceeds going to the LAFD -- here are a few photos of actor Callum Turner modeling for Louis Vuitton because he's always a good distraction. Not that this matters in the scope of what's happening out there but my trip to L.A. for the Critics Choice Awards this weekend has now been officially canceled so I kinda need some Pretty Man distraction myself. The show's been rescheduled for January 26th but that's right in the middle of Sundance so it looks like I'll be missing my first ever awards show, siiigh. But like I said -- that's extremely small potatoes compared to the devastation. And if there are any L.A. readers here in the house please please please stay safe! So yes let's all hit the jump and dip our anxieties into some sweet Callum for a moment...

Good Morning, World
Andrew Garfield's photos for W Magazine's annual "Performances of the Year" issue dropped on Saturday morning right after I posted 1) his other photoshoot for GQ and 2) several of the other actors in W Magazine, so bad timing (i.e. me never posting on weekends) leads to me sharing these photos now. Weirdly W dropped all of the hottest photos on Saturday...
Oh okay they just saved all the slutty men photos for today! #blessings

... which is an odd time for photoshoots to drop? I'm really hoping more photos from that Josh O'Connor spread (emphasis on spread) pop up because good goddamn that's a sexy photo. Anyway hello, happy Monday. I've got a few big things going on this week (prepping for Sundance and I am flying to L.A. this upcoming weekend to attend the Critics Choice Awards in person, holy shit!) but I'll be here, posting per usual, too. So grab onto Andy's big beefy biceps and let's get moving...

The Critics, We Choiced
This marks my second year voting as a member of the Critics Choice Association and I long ago made peace -- well before I even became a member -- with the fact that my weird personal picks would end up falling through the cracks of a general consensus and not get much representation in the final tallies. It's just par for the course with this type of thing. That's what I have my personal awards for, and uhhh hopefully some time I'll get to those. But today what I have to share with you are the Critics Choice nominations! And there are a few things I voted for up in here -- you can be sure that any nominations for Hard Truths, Nosferatu, The Substance, the two Guadagninos were among my votes -- and that makes me happy. I will glom my hopes onto them. Oh and as a sidenote -- I am planning on going to Los Angeles for the ceremony this year! So stay tuned for coverage from that! Exciting star-fuckery ahead! Okay now let's hit the jump and see the entire list of nominations...

Whom Did the Critics Choose
This was my first year as a member of the Critics Choice Association but I didn't end up going to the ceremony yesterday -- I'm going to Sundance in four days and I can only take off so much time from my day job unfortunately. Pretty sure I'll do the opposite next year, especially since the second I saw Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer standing together on the red carpet looking like that I regretted every choice I'd made in my life. Oh well - I am sure there will be hot guys there next year for me to drool upon in person. Just you wait, hot guys! Anyway for now I just think I will hold onto my drool for later and share our winners with you after the jump...

Today's Fanboy Delusion
Today I'd rather be...
... Harrison Ford's whipping boy.
Coincidentally just after I posted this it was announced that Harrison is receiving the Career Achievement Award at this weekend's Critics Choice Awards -- I'm now a voting member of the CCA so I must announce such things! Obviously the man has earned all the honors, and not just for how he commands that whip -- I'm even sadder I won't be there at the awards this weekend now! But as I stated previously I had to choose between that and Sundance and this year it was Sundance. (Speaking of I suppose this is a good changce for me to point out I'll be in Utah starting a week from Thursday so you should expect it to be quiet in here for about a week or so then.) Anyway hit the jump for the CCA press release on Mr. Ford...

All of Us Critics Choice Nominations
It's my first year as a member of the Critics Choice Association (y'all know how I feel about awards for art!) and so it's my duty to report on the nominations for the movies of the year 2023, which were just announced this morning. As happens every time I've voted in a large organization all of my weird votes were sucked into a black hole and the list of nominations looks like everybody else's lists of nominations, sigh. (How All of Us Strangers only got one nomination, for Screenplay, I will never comprehend.)
There are a few highlights though that I can glom onto. All of the Poor Things love, and Saltburn got a few. I love May December and Killers of the Flower Moon and Past Lives and Anatomy of a Fall so no complaints on those. Bottoms for Best Comedy! And I didn't even vote for it in this category but I love that Godzilla Minus One made it into Best Foreign Language Film (I did vote for its Visual Effects, where it did not get in). That said the movies I did not like -- Maestro and The Holdovers specifically -- and the movies I think are just okay -- Oppenheimer and Barbie and American Fiction -- are way overrepresented.
Anyway all of this is typical -- Awards Season always evens out to groupthink and the year's oddities must subsist on the love of the human oddities who keep loving them, so we'll keep doing that together. And eventually once I feel like I've seen enough of the year's movies I'll dole out my own faves. But for now know the Critics Choice Awards will air at 7pm EST on The CW on January 14th, hosted by Chelsea Handler -- I'm not going in person this year because I'm going to Sundance the following week instead and one has to make choices and that's was mine for 2024! Now hit the jump to see the full slate of Critics Choice noms...
