Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... bumming at the beach with Garrett Hedlund.

Good Morning, World

Happy Monday morning from me and Garrett Hedlund and some furry friend of Garrett's (via) -- what would you give up to be there on that boat right now instead of where ever you are? Sitting her at my desk eating my cornflakes I can definitely say without hesitation, "my soul." It helps that I don't believe in a soul so that's an easy giveup, I suppose. But still. You can have it all, Garrett and friend! Just whisk me away on your sexy adventure.

Good Morning, World

Who's up for a little morning sweat with
best bros Garrett Hedlund and Charlie Hunnam?

Good Morning, World

Happy Mon... err, Tuesday, everybody! I hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend if you're an American, and if not -- please invite me to your country to learn your ways. I'm a terrible guest...

...I can't cook anything, and I give off Big Eeyore Energy in person, so really -- a win for one and all. Anyway here's some Garrett Hedlund (via) to help us readjust to desk life. Let's get going...

Who Wore It Best?

Noted besties Charlie Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund are for some reason rocking the exact same rock-star style these days -- shoulder-length hair and beards -- and there's something very "Brad Pitt with a new girlfriend" about it. Like they're morphing into each other. I want to pretend that this is their way of telling us that they're more than "noted besties" but such things I'll leave, ahem, subtly implied. For now let's just make them compete with each other:

Hours and Hours of Gay Entertainment

I don't know about you but today hasn't been nearly gay enough for me. I mean, I have gone into several different spaces and not once -- not a single time! -- has confetti fallen on my head. What is even happening??? So in order to gay up this Wednesday here, over at Mashable I give you my list of the ten best movies on Netflix that were made by LGBTQ+ creators. There's something for everybody but mostly for me, because I made the damn thing. And isn't that what matters the most, in the end? That I am happy, goddamnit?

Good Morning, World

I forgot that Garrett Hedlund fancies himself a musician -- and no I'm not trying to be snide, I know he's got a gorgeous deep resonant voice, it's a big part of his appeal (outside of the obvious). I mean it wasn't enough to get me to watch Country Strong, his country and western musical with Gwyneth Paltrow, but I get it. Anyway I wasn't sure why he was posting on his Instagram all of a sudden so much lately but it looks like he is teasing an album? Lots of guitar strumming, sepia tone, horses and hay. He's really successfully branded himself as a Texas boy because I'm always convinced he's that and then I look at IMDb and I'm like, "Oh, Minnesota? Really?" Anyway whatever Mr. Hedlund wants Mr. Hedlund can have. I will allow it. Hit the jump for a few more good ol' boy snaps...

Shovin' Into Overdrive

I missed a press screening of Top Gun Maverick while I was away so I'm not sure if I'll make it out to see the sequel or not -- I'm still not going to public screenings, especially with COVID numbers on the rise here in NYC (and everywhere else). But at least I can look at these photos of Glen Powell for Men's Health and make some "vroom vroom" noises (in my pants) and pretend.

Vroom vroom, y'all. I mean. They knew what they were doing with that photo. Sheesh. There's also a workout video at the link, and photos of Glen's TGM co-stars Jay Ellis and Danny Ramirez to boot. (See them below, with a poll!) And it sounds like all the critics who did manage to see the movie thought it a fine summer blockbuster, which doesn't really surprise me -- Tom Cruise, as foul a human as he might be, has honed his craft down to a sheen.

In bonus news did y'all catch all this while I was gone?

Can Tom Sturridge Try On the Catsuit At Least?

It took me a little while to totally warm up to the Tom Sturridge thing, but he knew the way to my heart -- make out with both Garrett Hedlund (see here) and Douglas Booth (see here) in movies, check! Grow the world's sleaziest mustache and prance about in a redcoat uniform, check! Oh and then give a tremendously excellent performance on stage in a show that also starred Jake Gyllenhaal, guaranteeing I'll see said show more than once -- check and check. Honestly he was SO GOOD in his half of Sea Wall / A Life on and off Broadway, so deeply moving and emotionally affecting, that I'll now follow him anywhere, even if he doesn't press those gorgeous ruby lips onto any pretty menfolk ever again. (Although what a waste that would be, right?)

Anyway I have warmed to the Tom Sturridge thing and then some now, and so today's news that our boy's joined the cast of Olivier Assayas' new HBO series adaptation of Irma Vep, Assayas' own 1996 film, is a welcome thing to me! Since Assayas himself is making this series I have high hopes for it -- in case you hadn't noticed that man is still churning out excellence. Alicia Vikander in the series' lead role might not be Maggie Cheung, but measuring any human being by Maggie Cheung standards is unfair to literally every person on earth not named Maggie Cheung. There is only one Maggie Cheung, unfortunately!

And after the excellence of The Green Knight (reviewed here) I will admit me and Alicia are on good terms right this minute. On that note did y'all see the rumor going around that her husband, one Michael Fassbender, was spotted HOLDING A BABY on the set of this exact series, which is now being filmed??? Is Fassy a daddy? (I mean besides my daddy, which he, at three months younger than me, has always nevertheless been.) Congrats to them if the rumor is true!

Garrett Hedlund Three Times

(pics via) Happy to hear that Mr. Hedlund will be taking some time off from being a new daddy to make a new movie (and be our daddy again) -- he's going to co-star in a Dracula spin-off film called The Bride opposite Game of Thrones actress Nathalie Emmanuel (she played Missandei, right-hand woman to the Khaleesi herself)... here, presumably, Emmanuel will be playing the titular Bride herself. Does that make Garrett Dracula? They don't say but I don't think exactly, since this is one of those modernizing reimaginings...

"Inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the pic is a contemporary horror thriller that tells the story of a young woman who is courted and swept off her feet, only to realize a gothic conspiracy is afoot."

I do believe I've heard about several Dracula-based movies looming up into our immediate future -- like Karyn Kusama's spin, where ever that stands -- so we'll have to wait and see where this falls on the clever matrix, but I'm always here for Garrett.

I Quit Smoking Thirteen Years Ago Today

Lucky thirteen, y'all! That's how that thing works, right? Well maybe I'm no numerologist but what I do know is I tossed cigarettes in the trash on May 5th 2008 and I ain't never been back, and that's a thing I celebrate here on MNPP every single year every May 5th by posting enormous galleries of extremely attractive actors doing the exact thing that I no longer do. It keeps me honest.

Well if not honest... it keeps me something, anyway. Last year, as with many aspects of last year, we hit a snag though -- because I was quarantined at home over this anniversary I'd been separated from the big folder of photos that I'd keep gathering up to post for 2020. And so last year's post was admittedly a bit slack. Well...

... this year's post makes up for it, and it makes up for it then some. I've got all the photos I'd gathered for 2020 plus all the photos I've gathered in 2021, and it's gonna give y'all a hell of a nicotine buzz. If you don't die of cancer before you're finished with this post then I haven't done my job! I make light (get it) but seriously... don't smoke. You don't look at good as these guys do doing it, I promise you. Well unless you're actually KJ Apa reading this, in which case... call me, KJ Apa. You can blow smoke (or anything) on me any time. And with that, let's hit the jump for dozens more...

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... snuggled up with Trevante Rhodes.

Lee Daniels' new film The United States vs Billie Holiday (about the Fed's endless siege on the famous singer for drugs and for stirring up racial tensions with her song "Strange Fruit") is out on Hulu today -- if you missed the trailer I posted the trailer right here. Andra Day plays Holiday and does so beautifully (what a voice), while you'll spend a whole lot of time yelling at the screen for the two cops in her life, played by Trevante here and Garrett Hedlund in a stylish stache, to make out.

But isn't that how any Lee Daniels film is to be appreciated? You can always find things, even when Daniels is at his sloppiest and ooh baby is this movie sloppy. And somehow boring? That's one complaint I've never had to lodge at a Daniels film before but this one's somehow kind of boring. That ol' Daniels razzmatazz just seems to vanish for long stretches, as if he felt a little intimidated by his own material. But then Trevante saunters in in a fuzzy sweater and you forget about all that...

The United Staches vs Billie Holiday

The first trailer for Lee Daniels' The United States vs. Billie Holiday biopic has arrived this here very Monday, which stars Broadway phenom Andra Day as the legendary singer during the period of her life where the government was harassing her -- the government in the form of "Garrett Hedlund wearing suspenders and having a mustache" because Lee Daniels knows how to treat us right. It's not just Garrett though!

Moonlight's Trevante Rhodes is there too, because Lee Daniels really really knows how to treat us. He plays a Narcotics agent that Holiday has a torrid affair with -- no word on whether he also has an affair with Hedlund's character, but I'm keeping that foundation-less hope alive just because it's 2021 and we're allowed to believe whatever we want to now. I'm using the death of truth for good, y'all!

This movie was of course supposed to get a theatrical release but it's just been acquired by Hulu and it will now be hitting Hulu on February 26th. Don't ask me what that means for awards prospects, as I am not the person who cares. I just wanna see...

... lots of Lee Daniels shooting these gorgeous actors like the most
gorgeous people on Earth, and I'll be satisfied. Here's the trailer:

Like I said, Hulu on February 26th.
Hit the jump for a few more caps...

What Did I Do To Deserve This, Jake?

This news, this darkest timeline news, is at least somewhat offset by me finding the above photo of Jake in a chunky sweater to go along with it (it's from this shoot already posted, but I somehow missed this wonderful one until today) -- but only somewhat! Because this is bad news! Bad news indeed! Jake Gyllenhaal is going to be starring in (oh god I gagged as I went to type it) a Michael Bay movie. (thx Mac) Oh god. OH GOD. Why? Why is this happening? Where did I go wrong? I have tried to be a good person. Decent. I pay my taxes, I wash my dishes, I cross my Ts and say hello to little old ladies if the moment arises and it's not, you know, weird. Should I do it even if it's weird? Will that save me from having to watch a Michael Bay movie? I WILL DO ANYTHING. Goddamit! Should I sweat less? Guldurnit! Is that better? Anyway there aren't many details, just that it's called Ambulance and it's an action movie -- my guess is the movie is about Jake playing an ambulance driver who has to come and pick up a blogger he murdered with his bad choices. Fuck me. Fuck us all!

Joel Kinnaman gets it. Anyway since I don't want to end this post on a gloriously depressing note -- EVEN THOUGH IT DESERVES IT! -- let's take a look at something happier. We also got word today that The Sound of Philadelphia, the movie starring Mr. Kinnaman there and our favorite Belgian Beefcake Matthias Schoenaerts, has been snapped up for release come January. I first told you about the movie in May of 2018 when it was going to star Schoenaerts & Garrett Hedlund; eventually Kinnaman replaced GH and we spied all sorts of photos of the actors together over the intervening months and that was a swell experience, it was. I should add the movie has now been retitled -- it's now called Brothers By Blood, which is... dramatic! To say the least. Here's a new photo of the two:

Pics of the Day

Precious and more importantly The Paperboy director Lee Daniels has a new movie coming out which we told you about last September, called The United States vs. Billie Holiday, which is about the singer having been a target of the Federal Narcotics Goons (that's their official title) -- it stars Andra Day as Holiday alongside, as you see above, Garrett Hedlund playing the mustachioed head of the Goons Squad, and as you see below, Trevante Rhodes playing an undercover agent who had a long affair with Holiday. Per usual, Lee Daniels making his leading men all-time swooners. These images come via Vanity Fair which has a big new feature on the film with several more shots -- the film is set to be released in February. I should add, since it is notable, that this movie also has Natasha fucking Lyonne playing Tallulah fucking Bankhead. MY GOD.

Dominic Cooper Six Times

Just a heads-up that I do believe my brain has hit the wall of "being able to focus on anything for longer than five seconds" for this here Election Day 2020, and you probably shouldn't expect me to write much more in the way of words for today. But wait! That's not a bad thing for you! Because I've decided I'm going to spend a good chunk of the afternoon...

... just tweeting out random photos of dudes on my Twitter account as a happy distraction for us all. I've got folders full of hot stuff just gathering dust and it's just what the doctor ordered, goddamit! These photos here of my boy Dom Cooper (via) which I somehow previously missed, deserved an actual proper post though, and so here we are. Posting them here. Hit the jump for it...

Into the Ring, a New Competitor

Well I guess Miguel Angel Silvestre was jealous of the attention
that Garrett Hedlund got for his sexy mask time yesterday!
Two hot masked men will enter, but only one can leave...

God of the Plague

At some point I suppose I'm going to have to do a "Who wore it best?" poll involving celebrities wearing masks (could anybody beat Colin Farrell in short shorts though?) but for this morning, as I just got off a truly hellish commute and am anticipating another crazy busy day ahead of me, let's just soak in these three photos of pretty pretty Garrett Hedlund walking his dog and looking as sun-kissed California as they come (in the middle of a plague, that is) a couple of days ago (via).

Pic of the Day

.
This picture was actually the first picture I saw of Garrett Hedlund and Kelly Macdonald in Dirt Music, the upcoming romantic-drama -- last year somebody'd caught a snap of it at Cannes, but the copy was off-center and low-quality. But no longer! Now we've got a proper copy, huzzah for us all. I've already posted the trailer for this movie right here -- twice actually! Here's another one! It's hitting VOD on July 17th, and I recommend you scribble that down in your calendars. (click the pic to embiggen)

Which is Hotter?

.
Last night came word that director David Lowery -- who made one of my favorite movies of the decade with A Ghost Story, although his remake of Pete's Dragon (which I still haven't seen) is probably more apt to the conversation at hand -- is going to tackle Disney's live-action Peter Pan movie, following in the footsteps of blah blah all of their other live-action remakes of their animated features which I have totally stopped watching at this point. But I might see this one? David Lowery is very talented, and Peter Pan exists as an idea outside of the Disney movie more than say The Lion King, which i think gives him more room to wiggle. They're also titling it Peter Pan and Wendy so I imagine they'll maybe recognize that Peter Pan is actually a girl's story this time out? Imagine that! Anyway I'll also probably watch it because Jude Law is probably going to play Captain Hook, and as Colin O'Donoghue attests I love me a Hot Hook. On that note I ask y'all...
