Good Morning, World

.
A happy 41 to the Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason today -- he's one of those actors that we've posted about a ton without ever really familiarizing ourselves with his work too much; we've only seen him in the most recent Lisbeth Salander movie The Girl in the Spider's Web and he didn't leave much of an impression there (nothing about that movie really did, although I do recall thinking it better than its reputation which is basement level). We we introduced to Sverrir when he played tennis god Bjorn Borg but we've still not managed to see that movie, somehow. The above gif is from the 2016 film A Serious Game, which is an adaptation a book by Hjalmar Söderberg that's been called "The Great Swedish Love Story," of which I am wholly unfamiliar. Any Swedes about to educate me?

Do Dump or Marry: The Bad Beaus of Lisbeth

.
Fede Alvarez (director of the great genre flick Don't Breathe as well as the better than it had any right being remake of Evil Dead) managed to gather together a stunning up-and-comer cast for today's big The Girl in the Spider's Web movie (even if we're all a little clueless as to why the original team got dumped) -- Claire Foy, Sylvia Hoeks, Vicky Krieps, and them's just the ladies; on the all-important dude side there's The Square star Claes Bang (seen above, but there's lots more here)...

... and there's Sverrir Gunadson (with more of him here) and there's Lakeith Stanfield (see plenty more here), oh and then there's the German actor Volker Bruch (you'll be able to see a lot of him below), who will be familiar to anybody who watches Tom Tykwer's series Babylon Berlin. (We are definitely a fan.)

Anyway I know that's four dudes but I leave the decision-making up to you now, feel free to double-up wherever you wish -- out of these four (meaning Sverrir & Lakeith & Volker & Claes, oh my) Which'd you Do, which'd you, Dump, and which'd you Marry? Answer that in the comments! And hit the jump for some more of Volker Bruch to maybe help you decide...

Sverrir Gudnason Thirteen Times

.
The Ezra Miller story in the new issue of GQ is getting all today's attention, supposedly it's... colorful? I haven't had time to read it yet though, I'm saving it for when I eat lunch in a bit, so until we can comment thereupon we'll instead direct you to the issue's photo-shoot of Swede up-n-comer Sverrir Gudnason, who's playing the Daniel Craig role in the new Lisbeth Salander movie The Girl in the Spider's Web, which is out this weekend.

(thx Mac) We've been staring at Sverrir a lot over the past year plus, click through our archive for the actor, but for those keeping track no, we still haven't actually seen any of his movies. That'll change this weekend though, as I am weirdly looking forward to TGITSW even though I'm a huge fan of the Fincher-Mara movie. It's got such a good cast! Anyway hit the jump for the rest of this shoot...

How Swede It Is

.
I think it's official - Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason is the actor that I have posted the most about without ever having seen him act in a single damn thing. I was going to see the Borg McEnroe movie (in which he played the first half of that title) for you know, reasons but that movie came and left without much of any release and I still haven't gotten around to it. But all that is about to change...
.

.
... now that he's the co-star in the new Lisbeth Salander movie, The Girl in the Spider's Web. (That there above is the brand new second trailer; see the first trailer here.) He is playing the Daniel Craig role, insert something something about Daniel Craig's little black underwear right here.

Sverrir isn't the only hot piece stuck in this Spider's Web either - the film also co-stars Claes Bang and Lakeith Stanfield and new obsession of mine Volker Bruch, who's the lead on Tom Tykwer's Netflix show Babylon Berlin, which I recently burned through...
.
.
Have any of you watched Babylon Berlin? I quite liked it and am dying for more, but I haven't heard many people talk about it. Maybe it's just that I'm late to the party -- I think it dropped on Netflix ages ago. Anyway to bring us back to the start I've got more of Mr. Gudnason (via, thx Mac) for us, hit the jump and there they'll be...

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Martin Vanger: Let me ask you something? Why don't people trust their instincts? They sense something is wrong, someone is walking too close behind them... You knew something was wrong but you came back into the house. Did I force you, did I drag you in? No. All I had to do was offer you a drink. It's hard to believe that the fear of offending can be stronger than the fear of pain. But you know what? It is. And they always come willingly. And then they sit there. They know it's all over just like you do but somehow they still think they have a chance. Maybe if I say the right thing? Maybe if I'm polite. If I cry, if i beg. And when I see the hope draining from their face like it is from yours right now. I can feel myself getting hard. You know, We're not that different, you and I. We both have urges, satisfying mine requires more towels.

A happy 67 to the great Stellan Skarsgård, an actor we take terribly for granted, and not just because from his loins sprang forth the finest generation of Swedish meatballs the world has ever seen...

Have I ever made us "Do Dump or Marry" his sons
Gustaf, Bill and Alex? Well if I did it wasn't lately
so let's do that in the comments!
.
.
In related news there's the trailer for the latest Lisbeth Salander movie, this time around starring Claire Foy as the titular "Girl" and from director Fede Alvarez, who gave us the better than it shoulda been Evil Dead reboot as well as the super fun thriller Don't Breathe. He's what's got me excited about this, although Claire Foy is proving a winner too. The whole cast is killer, with Blade Runner stand-out Sylvia Hoeks, LaKeith Stanfield, Claes Bang, and sexy Swede Sverrir Gudnason stepping in for Daniel Craig...

I really loved the David Fincher movie
but I'm trying to keep an open mind.
The shelves are helping!

Sverrir Gudnason Ten Times

.
It's been an awfully long drawn out release for the Borg vs McEnroe movie that's got our boy Sverrir here facing down Shia LaBeouf in tennis whites - just call it Battle of the Sexies! (Oh god never call it that, you'll be slapped immediately, and deservedly, if you call it that.) But it's finally out this weekend, and given the options - what, are you gonna spend money on Rampage? - you could do worse.

We've posted some shots from the film and its trailer previously that make the movie's case. (And some shots of Sverrir himself that further the case along.) Anyway even without this Sverrir has got the Claire Foy led Girl in the Spider's Web coming out soon enough, so he's gonna be okay. You can read an interview with him here, and then you can hit the jump for the rest of this photo-shoot...

I Am Link

.
--- Into the Spider's Web - Fede Alvarez is gathering up a pretty hot cast for his reboot of the Lisbeth Salander franchise - Clarie Foy is taking over for Rooney Mara and we already oogled Daniel Craig's replacement the Swedish sex-ball that is Sverrir Gudnason; more recently added are Sylvia Hoeks, who was the only thing I liked in the new Blade Runner movie, and now here comes the super Lakeith Stanfield, who'll play a NSA computer expert dude who's chasing down our leading punk lassie. See a bunch of pictures of Lakeith right here, if you like.

--- A Haunting in Brooklynn - We told you with some enthusiasm last month about the forthcoming film The Turning, a new version of Henry James' classic ghost tale The Turning of the Screw that will star spectacular Mackenzie Davis in the role of the nanny and Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard as one of her charges. Well here's some wonderful new news - Brooklynn Prince, the little girl who gave it her all + then some in The Florida Project (my review here), has signed on to play the other kid trusted to Mackenzie's care.

--- The Joy You've Felt - I've kind of had to give up on keeping y'all up with Call Me By Your Name links because I am but one man, and while I read it all, I cannot keep track of it all. And it's not like I don't do enough rambling of my damn own anyway. But if you missed Interview Magazine's chat with Papa Love himself Michael Stuhlbarg about the crafting of his already classic scene in the movie, you shouldn't. Read it over here. Oh Papa.

--- Say It With Streep - Oh this is a thrill - a new series has premiered this week at The Film Experience where John Guerin and Matthew Eng will be chatting about the world's most beloved actressing icon, Miss Meryl Streep - they'll be going through each and every one of her films, a week at a time. This week they tackled her first movie Julia, which threw her opposite no less than screen icons Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave. I have never seen Julia, have you? Anyway I'm looking forward to the 90s Comedy portion of this series, myself.

--- Fix Your Heart or Die - One of the aspects of David Lynch's storytelling that is continually overshadowed and under-valued is his kindness, and so it was a lovely thing to read this long-form ode to the astonishing empathy of Twin Peaks and by extension pretty much all of his work. (thanks Mac) Particularly important I think is how it slaps us a little silly for continually attempting to divorce The Elephant Man and The Straight Story from lynch's oeuvre since they don't cleanly fit the narrative of what we think of when we think of Lynchian. In related news I watch the recent doc on Lynch over the weekend and don't miss it! And then you might as well re-watch all 18 hours of the new Twin Peaks again because there is literally nothing better to do. Literally.

--- Strangers Things - I'm kind of disappointed that the sequel to 2008's terrific The Strangers didn't end up happening with the original team - former director Bryan Bertino has a credit on the script, but otherwise it's all new faces both behind and in front of the screen. It doesn't help that the sequel's actors Christina Hendricks and Martin Henderson, both of whom I like perfectly fine mind you, feel like lower-wattage replacements for Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. If it hadn't taken an entire decade to get made I'd say it feels like a cash in, but since it did take an entire decade I don't know how to feel. I guess we'll see in march when it's out - for now, the trailer!

Swapping In Sverrir Gudnason

.
We have yet here in the States to see the "Bjorn Borg versus John McEnroe" tennis biopic Borg/McEnroe starring Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason as the former and American nutcase Shia LaBeouf (I use the word "nutcase" with great affection) as the latter (also a nutcase, funny enough), but we've still covered it extensively since it is, you know, a biopic about one of the most beautiful men to ever play one of the sexiest sports and by looks alone Gudnason nails it.

And now we'll have more cause to stare at the man filling Bjorn's little shorts because he's just taken over Daniel Craig's old role in the new Lisbeth Salander adaptation, this one titled The Girl in the Spider's WebEvil Dead director Fede Alvarez has taken over David Fincher's director's chair, while Claire Foy is our new goth Rooney. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Sverrir attempts to compete with Daniel's little black briefs heard around the world (although I think he might be up to the task!)  but until then let's stare at another dozen plus pictures after the jump...

Good Morning, World

.
I already shared the international trailer for the Borg / McEnroe movie right here (which includes a great shot of Sverrir Gudnason's full behind in the shower) but now they've released another trailer and it's got these here shots of Sverrir flashing Bjorn Borg's famous underpants so natch we must share. Watch the new trailer right here. By the way can somebody tell me how to pronounce "Sverrir" anyway? Specifically with one's mouth full? That'll really help a brother out if all goes according to plan. Thanks!

Short White Shorts & The Dicks That Fill Them

.
It was way back in September that we first heard that Shia LaBeouf was going to make a movie called Borg/McEnroe about the tennis rivalry between John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg (with Sweidsh-Icelandic actor Sverrir Gudnason playing the latter) and not long thereafter the above image showed up but we've only seen it now for the first time as it comes along with the trailer for the film. Well the German trailer anyway. But you know what International trailers mean right? That's right...

... they mean nudity! We love nudity! I'm actually not sure which of our leads that is naked in the shower though - my first thought was it's Gudnason but the longer I look (and I have looked for a long time) the less sure I am. Anyway here's the trailer:
.

.
Weirdly there's another movie about tennis rivalries of the 1970s coming out this year that released a trailer this week (I guess it's this year's Volcano versus Dante's Peak showdown) -- Battle of the Sexes stars Emma Stone as Billie Jean King and Steve Carrell as the sexist pig monster Bobby Riggs, who faced off in an infamous Penis Vs Vagina showdown in 1973. Nathaniel did a good run-down of the trailer over at The Film Experience yesterday, go read it over there, but the main thing to know is that Andrea Riseborough is playing Emma Stone's girlfriend and that's all you need to know about whether you're seeing this movie or not. (You are.)

Good Morning, World

.
Every so often the clicks of my past will come back to haunt me - this morning as I checked to see whose birthday it is today on IMDb I noticed an unfamiliar name highlighted, meaning I had once upon a recent time, since my last cookie-cleaning at least, clicked upon it. Who is this Sverrir Gudnason fellow who's turning 38 today, I asked myself? Well it turns out I had checked him out because he's the dude who's playing Bjorn Borg opposite Shia LaBeouf as John McEnroe in the upcoming tennis bio-pic Borg vs McEnroe, that's who. I'd posted about this back in May

And can I just say that now that I've actually seen Andrea Arnold's American Honey (and no I haven't reviewed it yet, I am waiting until closer to its release, but know it did not disappoint) that I'm even more excited for this tennis movie because Shia has become a really terrific actor, you guys. I know. I know. But he has. Them's the facts. Anyway a happy birthday and a good luck to Mr. Gudnason on having to deal with Shia on a set. That should be a treat. (I said he's a good actor, not necessarily a good human being.)
