THE WONDERFUL WANDA JACKSON

Original released on LP Capitol 1776
(US, 1962)

Here's the lovely Miss Jackson with a fine assortment of ballads, blues, and rockin', uptempo swingers, showing once more just why thy call her... "Wonderful Wanda". Perhaps the outstanding thing about Wanda Jackson (other than the fact that she's an extremely attractive young lady) is her amazing versatility. For Wanda has so much all around ability that she just can't be typed as any one certain kind of singer. She's every kind of singer, as the fine variety of tunes, tempos, and styles in this album clearly proves. At the beginning of her career, which started when Wanda was in her early teens, she was just a country girl with a fine voice and lots of natural charm. Then she joined fellow Oklahomans Hank Thompson and The Brazos Valley Boys, and her long and happy association with this most famous Western swing band added a great deal of polish and maturity to go along with her remarkable singing talent. Today "Wonderful Wanda" is an internationally-known recording star in her own right, and a favorite in-person performer at such plush entertainment spots as the fabulous Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, Nevada. This collection includes one of Wanda's most recent hit singles, "If I Cried Every Time You Hurt Me", as well as her earlier smash seller, "In the Middle of a Heartache". Wanda also offers a couple of all-time pop favorites with her fine versions of "Seven Lonely Days" and "I Need You Now", and on "You Don't Know, Baby" she demonstrates her very special knack of singing a blues song the way it's supposed to be sung.
