Buzzcocks F.O.C. - Tomorrows Sunset
BUZZCOCKS F.O.C.
Tomorrows Sunset
1989 Thin Line
Notes :
Indie rock band from Manchester formed by Steve Diggle, ex-member and vocalist of Buzzcocks & Flag Of Convenience.
Joined by ex-Flag Of Convenience members Andy Couzens (guitar & vocals), Chris Goodwin (drums) and Gary Hamer (bass & vocals), they released one single ''Tommorows Sunset'' that was produced by Martin Hannett.
After this single Andy Couzens & Chris Goodwin formed baggy band The High, together with vocalist John Matthews and bassist Simon Davies.
Couzens and Goodwin had also been in an early incarnation of the Stone Roses, and the High drew on the Roses' classic, ringing guitar-pop -- albeit mostly without the dance beats -- for their dominant sonic flavor.

The Shamen - MK2A (12'' Promo)
THE SHAMEN
MK2A (12'' Promo)
1995 One Little Indian
Notes :
This promotional release features 3 of the weirdest remixes of any Shamen track. Ignoring the Beatmasters 12", which also appears on the other vinyl promo and stays true to the album version, the other 3 remixes are radical re-workings.
The Tranquility Bass Dub is a tripped out sonic assault of mashed up vocal samples from the song, re-arranged and messed about with so as to be almost unrecognisable in places. The beats are heavily filtered and become more urgent as the mix develops. The sample used near the end is totally out of place - but adds to the overall weirdness.
Joi create an Eastern sitar and tabla driven "world music" remix - unique to a Shamen release. Only a couple of vocals feature but the main beat from the Beatmasters is echoed in a more chunky way.
The Air Liquide Remix is monotonous to a degree but features very strange analog synth effects. Vocals only very occasionally appear from the background and are heavily treated to become part of the overall overload of madness.

Fuel - Timeless EP
FUEL
Timeless EP
1994 Diffusion Records
Fuel was shoegaze/indie band from Scotland, had strong connections and a similar guitar sound to quintessential ethereal band “Cocteau Twins”. Formed by Hamish McKintosh in 1987 and produced by the Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie, a first album “The Back Of This Beyond” was released. Undeterred Hamish produced a second album which was due to be released but the collapse of the record label meant this was postponed. In 1994 second single “Timeless EP” was released with major contributions from the Cocteau Twins, including the vocal talents of Elizabeth Fraser on the song “Butterfly Knife” and Robin Guthrie’s inimitable sound on the astounding shoegazer should be classic “Wildfire”.
'' The delayed follow-up to first single Songs In The Key Of E , ''Timeless EP'' finally emerged on a new label, Diffusion, in 1994. Hamish Mackintosh here works with regular collaborators Robin Guthrie and Lincoln Fong, not to mention Elizabeth Frazer and a slew of other musicians. Both Guthrie and Frazer contribute their instantly recognizable selves to the great opening track "Butterfly Knife," a dreamy, swoony number with a hint of Arabic music to it, just enough, breaking into a fuller arrangement at points for extra punch. The other cuts provide their own highlights, including the soaring lead guitar figure and flange wash of "Shiva," and a surprising but not bad stab at Manchester baggy funk, "Candygram." The title track is perhaps the best of them all, haunting choir effects, piano, and more providing the bed for Mackintosh's serene, breathless vocal, literally sounding lost in space and time, beautifully so. ''
